Had a couple of cars with the old 1905 lump. (both non-turbo). Excellent engines, and most on here seem to agree.
Wondering about the 2.1 litre derivative - is it just as durable?

I ran a 605 with the 2.1 engine for about 6 years. Did 175,000 when sold, no problems with engine/ gearbox/ clutch. Great car, wish I had kept it.

Have bought a new car and have two months left on the insurance for my soon to be sold megane.
My question is, am I better transferring the new car to the megane policy, seeing as I paid for it annually and will be adding another driver to the new car
OR
just get a new policy (which quote wise will be with another insurer) - the only snag being I quoted 4 years no claims but this will only be fact when the megane policy expires in march, does that matter?
Hope this makes some sort of sense!!!

Some Ins Co s will allow full NCB on 2nd car/ some do not.
You have to ask them if they will give you the same NCB as the 1st car.

fronts you need a spring compressor and is easy to do your self, rears i don't think you need to the spring is not that much compressed, both are an easy diy option.
I'd really appreciate some urgent advice re. my father's C Max 1.6 TDCi 110
My father arrived at my house today after a 150 mile drive. A few hours later I went outside in the dark to move my car to the drive and noticed large amounts of engine oil over the front bumper and dripping onto the road. Alerted my father - he had no idea.
Lifted the bonnet and the oil filler cap is missing and the whole engine bay covered in oil. Checked the dipstick - a tiny bit at the very bottom of the dipstick.
Questioned my father - he says he topped up the oil 3 days ago prior to taking another long journey (400 mile round trip to Sussex), says he did have a bit of trouble putting the filler cap back on (he is a complete mechanical novice, just about manages to check the oil!)
The car apparently drove fine all the way up here today. My opinion is that the cap has blown off either on the motorway or quite close to my home resulting in the oil loss. My intention is to hope for the best, go out and buy 4 litres of the correct oil at Halfords tomorrow, top up, and try and get a new oil filler cap from a local ford dealer. It seems there is little else we can do, I obviously will not start the car until refilled with oil.
My question is how on earth does one clean the engine bay? I rang my FiL who said as it's a diesel, just pressure wash it! This didn't sound like a very good idea to me, but neither does steam cleaning, and I certainly don't like the idea of driving any distance with the oil heating up on the hot engine and burning up. Would it be better just to "wipe" everything with lots of rags?
Your learned advice please on all aspects of managing this. My father is supposed to be travelling home on Sunday - but only if we can get the car sorted! Read more
The C-Max oil light is a bright red oil can that displays in the middle of the speedo. Like most cars it turns on when the ignition is turned over, then turns off a second or two later when the oil pressure is ok.
If it came on while driving it'd be almost impossible to miss. Perhaps the light wasn't working?
Starting to plan this summer's family hols. Thinking of three weeks in Malaysia. Starting in Kuala Lumpur for a few days and then renting a car, driving to Cameron Highlands for a few days to cool down!, then into the central national park (can't remember name) then driving north to stop in Panang (Georgetown) for a while before driving down the coast back to KL.
I have never driven in Malaysia (or indeed ventured out of KL). Can anyone advise on general driving conditions please, and whether this trip is advisable? Read more
I'm surprised to hear this as it was a very orderly place on my tourist trip. I must also be well behind on the road network as it used to be impossible to avoid Johore Baru.
You crossed the causeway from Singapore and immediately came the Malayan customs barrier where you had to show passports. The road then went on through JB. and out to the North.
The Federation Police had a good reputation and the Army an excellent one.
I'm probably a little biased here as on my trip I wanted to visit Kota Tinggi which was a large British Army base about 40 miles North of JB.
Found a bus station in JB and went into the drivers tea room to ask which bus would take me there. One little fella who could speak a little English couldnt understand where Kota Tinggi was but after much consultaion with the others took me out to a bus and we sat among the locals and their chickens before setting out on our journey.
Near to me was a couple of smart young men who I took for Military and sure enough they were Ghurkas who were going to the same place. Got off the bus in the middle of nowhere but a little walking and we came to the camp which was now occupied by the Malayan Rangers. A little persuasion in the Guardroom and he let us wander off into the camp for some sightseeing. Further in we met a senior Officer who asked us if we needed any help. We explained it was a trip down memory lane and he turned out to be the Commanding Officer who took us off to the Orderly room and gave us refreshments and an invitation to walk freely round and meet his soldiers. The place hadnt changed at all, and I could have stopped there a week talking to his lads who could speak English and wanted to know all about the 50s Emergency when thousands of Commonwealth soldiers were in their country. Wonderful hospitality and I do have an affection for them and their country.

I have recently bought a 1995 Toyota Corolla Kudos Plus 1331 cc. The lady I bought it off told me that the immobiliser does not work. I need to fit a new battery to the vehicle. My concern is if I disconnect the old battery will the immobiliser 'kick in' and then will I be unable to start the car? Read more
>>basicaly its a nine volt battery that plugs into you ciggie lighter socket
Yes, and if you're ever tempted to make one up, make sure you protect the 9v battery with a diode. It protects the 9v battery by being fried by the vehicle's battery during the time that they're both connected.

You need the 2.0 diesel engine not the 1.4.

There's a 2.2 Diesel with 180BHP if you are after a performer
However all Auris's have a rather dull image even with 180 BHP it disappoints of the look
