On both the northbound signs approaching Tamworth on the M42 tonight:

M1 J25 - J28
27 JAN - OCT 2010
EXPECT DELAYS

Just in case you were heading up that way in two years time.

Think you may find it refers to a project starting next week and taking two years and nine months to complete. Bit like the current works from Luton to M25.

That would be referring to this:

Oh goodness , the M1 northbound is a nightmare at exactly that point, especially on a Friday Night.

Obviously, this is the reason the work is being done, and you can't make an omelette without cracking eggs as they say, but the M1 in the midlands on a Friday is one to avoid like the plague for the next 3 years.

Looks like I'll be getting very familiar with the route from the M42 Tamworth Services juntion to the A38. I hope it can cope with the extra load. Whatever happened to the proposed improvements to the road system on the A38 around the 3 roundabouts near Derby. I saw a HA Leaflet a couple of years ago about different proposals for improvements but nothing seemed to ever change.

I drive from J26 to J29 and back every day, they have been cutting down trees since before Christmas and are now installing the posts for SPECS cameras on the southbound carriageway.. :o(

My stretch used to be pretty much trouble free, but now I have 2 years of congestion to look forward to!
