Hi My engine management light has came on breifly today in my VW Transporter. Every time this has happened in various vehicles its always cost much more to run the software than it has to get the part.
Last time I had it done on the VW I think it was ~£70

Will the generic readers on ebay do the trick?

e.g.:

P.S. My brake lights didnt go off yesterday so Im thinking a dodgy switch (which was exactly what it was last time).

I recently bought one of these readers for my 94 golf, and they are spot on. But try this place

If you are unsure which one to get give them a call first and check. You will get a book with all the fault codes and definitions in it.
good luck

Can anyone take the trouble to explain to me how the Front wheel drive breed of SUV's with four wheel drive coming in when wheel slippage is detected handle on tarmac. I understand the theory off road whereby wheel spin is spotted and drive is sent to all 4 wheels, hopely maintaining progress. I am interested in what happens in a typical front wheel drive understeer cornering situation.

I am the happy owner of A MK1 RAV 4 LWB with permenent 4 wheel drive and quite enjoy it's on road handling. A little like a bigger non turbo Impreza. Obviously a fuel saving with these new SUV's compared to mine in theory.

Thanks in advance

In fuel-line sensor? removed following primer replacement - (1) is this dangerous? (2) will it effect my NCT? (Vehicle Roadworthy Test)

Full story attached:

[Had this estate car from new so I know a little about its service history. From the first time I got it serviced I had primer trouble shortly after. The primer last about 5 fuel filter changes. I even replaced the previous filter myself. Last time I left it into my mechanic following his recent service knowing in my soul that the primer was giving trouble again. The problem of starting persisted so I lifted the bonnet and I noticed that the primer (for which I had been charged) had not been replaced. Giving him the benefit of the doubt when he said it was a 2nd hand primer I went about locally to purchase a new primer but all they had in stock was a separate fuel filter & hand primer. These he replaced without charge. But now I noticed that the box that was in line with the fuel line with an electrical connection has been removed. I'm only presuming that it is a fuel rail pressure sensor. What is it's function and is it dangerous to have it removed?]

It was there for a reason - maybe there was a waxing problem in the filter pipes exposed to the airflow.

I still can't think why he took it off?

I removed my radio cassette(grundig 303c (D) model) from my 1998 1.2 merit 8 valve car to try to solve a continuous whining interference noise but when i put it back there was no life in it watsoever-completely dead. I have heard this happen to someone else while looking at another website.
Does anyone know what the problem might be and the solution please?
The code bit doesn't show any figures or safe mode.
Also are there any other brands eg philips, kenwood etc that will fit in the same apeture of this model?

Thanks Read more

Lets hope they make a decent job of it this time...if it had dynamics to match Golf Mk V I think they would be onto a winner...and maybe an R32 version to banish the girly image of the current Beetle.

I would like to take this opportunity to brag about my new 2007 Dodge Dakota truck and the price I paid for it. I bought it for $17,200 which is $10,750 BELOW the MSRP and it has a lifetime powertrain warranty!

This is in the US of course where everything, except health care, costs about half as much as it does in the UK.

Here's a review and pictures:

First I'm a Scottish expat living happily in California. I'm always happy to stick my countrymen about the fact that they pay twice as much for things on half the salary (but work one-quarter as hard).

Well, my observations of the tone of the original post were well founded. How the heck do you know how hard other people work? The sunny California lifestyle may not last so much longer happy ex-pat! The deep & declining groove in the American economy shows little sign of responding to the really hard workers in China & India. The cheap oil is rapidly running out, productivity levels in America are (& have been for a while) below many, if not most comparable economies - that lifestyle has been funded by American govt. debt paid for by the Asian & Chinese govts & investors buying up American industry & US govt. bonds.

Not quite as sunny methinks.

Is there a new polo coming soon?
Is it much different to the current one; I am thinking about a new 1.4 tdi as my wife is doing a lot more miles now - and wondered if there are going to be some good deals on the last stock of the current model? Read more

How about a Fiat Panda Multijet Diesel. Same engine as a Vauxhall Corsa, chain cam, very well reviewed everywhere including by HJ. £6600 now on HJ's listings.

Hi,

My brother has a vw golf gti, R reg. A while back the drivers side electric window stopped working, apparenlty the mechanism is fine but it needs a new electric motor, so far he hasnt had quotes for this part for less than 80 quid which seems a bit excessive to me? he's been told they are very rare but surely some one mass produces them fairly cheap? does anyone know of any good internet sites or retailers that sell such a motor for a reasonable price?

Post 1996 have motor and regulator combined.Dealer price is around 160 pounds. I know, had to have mine done. Common prob on these golfs hence second hand quite pricey.

does anyone know of a diesel mechanic that can tune up a 3.0 turbo diesel hilux surf in the redhill, surrey area? not long had a new head fitted and she smokes a bit more than she should!

{sigh. I wish I was paid a penny for every edit I have to perform because people don't read the sticky messages, or other prompts asking for year and engine size to be INCLUDED in the subject header - grrrr} Read more
