I'm in the middle of changing the gearbox on my fiesta as the old one had alot of miles up on it and was graunching and popping out of gear. I bought a low milage gearbox , but now I have my own gearbox out next to it I notice that looking at the front of the gearbox from my car, there is a large 4 pin plug there that the replacement box hasn't, it just has a blanking plate.
Does any one know what this plug is for, and is in possible to swap in on to the other box and how?

Please help, Rob.

Does it need the neutral switch to run? or can I just use a gearbox without that set up?

My fiancee passed her test recently with flying colours but she drove my old Rover the other day and didnt cope at all well, finding it very difficult to handle compared to the 207 and Corsa that she learnt in - anyone here had a new driver who suddenly got very scared of driving once they didnt have the safety net?

Just looking for ideas on how to help her both adjust to being on the road herself and also to the Rover - maybe just needs to do some miles. Just worried me because she was making a lot of silly mistakes - the power characteristics of the L-Series are quite different from a modern diesel and she doesnt understand the workings and theory behind it so its hard to explain to her!

I did thinka bout gettin some of those 'new driver' plates for the car so drivers knew she wasnt gonna be racing around. Read more

she doesn't exceed speed limits as
I do.

In the interests of strict accuracy, my wife did once drive the rough old Skoda 130 I had at the time back from a funeral in Cheshire at which I had spoken and also imbibed too freely to drive back. On the busy M6 some time after dark, my eye fell on the speedometer which to my fuddled surprise was nudging 90. I was unable to prevent myself from saying something slightly nervous and reproving.

In the back of the car were two old friends, one a Trinidadian and the other a Jamaican retired boxer. They both told me to shut up, so I did.

That was the only time. But I still hope she never reads this.

My central locking is not working. I have two key fobs (say A & B) for remote central locking, out of which A doesn't switch the car on (immobaliser light stays on), but used to open the car door, and B used to both open the doors and worked ok on ignition. The battery were going weak for both key fobs and I just replaced one for key fob A.
However operating the key fob A, nothing happens although red light on fob glows alright when I press the key.

I want to know is there any other battery for the central locking which I need to replace
If there is problem on the key fob A, and given I got only 1 other key (B) which allows me to drive the car, how risky it is to open the keyfob B and replace battery for this one too.

Would be glad to get an idea how to solve this

does the key light up when you press it?
if it does sit in the car turn the ignition on but don,t start the engine and press the lock or unlock button a few times it should lock then unlock then the fob is ok to use.

Hi folks, hope you can help.

My Megane (1998 1.4e RT 8 valve) has recently developed a problem with cutting out, it's happened to me 3 times now.

First time - started engine, drove away. Just round the corner from my house the car started to feel like it was losing power, just like a bit of a splutter. When I got to the junction I stopped and when I went to move away in first it stalled and wouldn't restart. It was dead for abour 15 mins during which time I tried at intervals to start it (pretty sure I didn't flood it). Eventually it did start and then was fine for about 3 days. I thought water must have got in as we'd had heavy rain.

Second and third time - both times it happened a short distance from home but when I felt it spluttering I was able to pull over and let the engine tick over for a minute thus avoiding any stalling.

All I can really say is that it's never happened once the engine has warmed up and the symptoms are very similar to when I had water ingress in a previous car (a Hyundai). If anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful, many thanks! Read more

There are different types and two versions of immobilizer; but you may well be lucky.

It will still need the dynamic timing setting-up with a scanner though.

I have an 06 ES Civic. I've only had it a couple of months. So far I have returned it to the dealer three times complaining that I sometimes have trouble selecting second gear. This only seems to happen when changing down to second! The garage have test drove it, and reported no problems.

Other issues I've had are; after the hand brake mod, the garage didn't replace all the screws in the center consul. Rear shocks had to be replaced after they started creaking.

I just had to share this with all you backroomers.
Driving to work this morning about 7.15 I stopped 3rd in line in the inside lane at a set of traffic lights. One car had stopped in the outside lane just as the lights had turned to red.The car in front of me was an innocuous looking dark green Vauxhall Zafira.A Fiescorsa yobmobile pulled up behind the car in the outside lane behind the other car.He decided that he didn't have to wait at the lights and pulled out ,overtook the car in the outside lane on the wrong side of the road and went through the red lights and sped off into the distance. You ****I thought. With that the Zafira placed a blue light on its roof started its sirens and gave chase.Sheepish looking yob was 'helping the police with there enquiries' about 1/2 a mile down the road when I went past.Gave me a warm feeling all day Read more

May have posted this before but:-

Twenty or so years (during an IRA "flap") arrived at Euston to hear a tannoy for the owner of the red BMW in the bus bays to remove it immediately. Foppish 25 yr old yuppy claims it, but not quickly enough to save him from a booking.

Transport Plod's finger wagging complete he drives off, turns right into Eversholt St and right again against prohibition signs onto the Euston Road. Pair of Met guys on motorbikes duly follow him and pull him over........

Much merriment on top deck of following 68 bus!!!!

All,
Just picked up a new 207SW, and while everything seems great, when parking in the dark tonight, I noticed that the console illumintation for for the Headlight leveling switch appears to remain illuminated after leaving the car, and locking it.

Does anyone else have similar symptoms? Is this the first of my electrical gremlins?

"Economy mode" is something rather different. If the battery voltage falls below a pre-programmed level, all non-essential items [like windows] stop working until the engine restarts, the alternator charges and the BSI gets engine rev info.

If your little light went off OK, then that's when the BSI went to sleep and I wouldn't worry about it - under no circumstances try and fix it....
