Evening, I decided to replace the timing chain on my peugeot 207 1.4 16v vti, as I had lost power and it was running rough. When I look at the chain the top guide was broken so ordered the parts and tools.

But after I had finished the car started to fire but would not start and no longer tries to fire. The spark plugs are very wet with fuel and there is no spark.... Read more

Now solved, it was the pre cat lambda sensor.

Thanks for the help.

Diesel runaway is where a diesel particulate filter regeneration is halted by turning the engine off mid generation. The additional fuel metered into the engine does not get burned and sinks into the sump causing the oil level to rise. When the level is high enough, it gets past the pistons and fuels the combustion process. Turning off the engine has no effect and it accelerates to an rpm beyond it's design limit leading to destruction. This is why modern diesels are unsuitable for multiple short runs. Don't turn a diesel off when it's regenerating. More about this on HJ's main site. Sad story that will cost the OP. Sympathy....

Toyota Yaris and Honda Jazz have a little flap in the tray which opens to access oil plug and another for oil filter.

My '14 reg 1.3 petrol Yaris hasn't an undertray. Should it?

Hi, I was hoping to get some advice on what to do.

I took my car to a garage (Vauxhall Meriva 2011 reg) because it had 5 lights on. 2 lights regarding ABS, 2 lights regarding TC, and the engine light. The garage said it was the front right abs sensor and they replaced it. They wipped the codes and all seemed ok. Howeve r, as I drove home the lights came back on. So I took it back.... Read more

I've also noticed something strange about it. When it's hot and dry, the warning lights come on fairly immediately... when it's wet or colder then they don't come on!! That sounds a bit like a funny ECU?

That sounds to me it might be an earthing issue....

2016 Focus ST-Line 1.0L Ecoboost 125 - now with 36k miles on the clock

Has anyone else had a problem with their Focus ST-Line dropping out of 6th gear? This leaves you with no power so you end up freewheeling to a stop (it doesn't allow you to drop into 5th or 4th as you slow down). Once stopped, the car then allows you to get into 1st and off you go as if nothing had happened.... Read more

I don't recall if I tried getting into 4th - I definitely tried 5th but then you have to think about how you are going to get somewhere safe as you roll to a stop.

The last time the garage had the car in they took the gearbox out and sent it off to a specialist gearbox company, who gave it the all clear.

Hi,

On motorway at weekend - motorway was 4 lanes splitting into 2. I was in lane 3 (going right) and needed to be in either 1 or 2. I realised late but was blocked from changing by a row of cars sitting in lane 2. I sped up a bit but they were also creeping up. I couldn't slow as had someone right behind me.... Read more

Filtering is legal on a motorbike and a quad bike and a car is no different its just the gap that a vehicle can fit through.

Indeed. But if you "filter" dangerously or carelessly you can face prosecution. Driving below the speed limit is legal but that alone does not rule out dangerous or careless driving....

I have just got an email to say my account balance has dropped below the minimum account balance threshold. It does not say what this actually is but I suspect it is £10 as I am a few pence under. Whilst I have used the Dartford Crossing half-a-dozen times this year I did not use it at all in 2017/2018 so do not feel like topping it up until I have only one or two crossings left. To me it seems a ploy to make money from the motorist! What are your thoughts? Read more

New oil and filter, new oil sensor that goes near the oil filter housing. The sump has been opened and cleaned out along with the oil pickup pipe - No debris found. The engine run sweet and there is no smoke or loss of oil...Any ideas?

It could be a bad wire conection, but you can only know for certain after doing a oil pressure test.

Question Erratic idle
Lee Griffiths

Hi

My Mondeo is suffering from an occasional erratic idle which is baffling me and I hope someone can assist.

Every now and then the revs will continually jump up and down, sometimes cutting out completely.

If I restart the engine to issue goes every time also when I rev the end hard it seems to sort it for a while.

I have replaced the purge valve and also cleaned out the EGR valve and at a loss what to do next.

I want to sell the car not incur more money on it, any advice welcome!!

Thanks Read more

I did remove the idle control valve when I cleaned the throttle body. I’ll check the fuse as haven’t done so.

It is very frustrating to pinpoint..

Thanks

Just had a bit of a scare, we have a netflix account and the price has just gone up by a quid a month, so it wasn't terribly surprising when an email from 'netlflix' arrived to update the payment method, and yes my wife (who's usually very quick on stuff like this) fell for it, then realised what she'd done moments later.

I never, ever tick the checkbox which allows websites to store my credit card details.

Sure it takes a few more seconds to enter the details every time, but I just treat this as another layer of self-inflicted security.
