Do traders or private vendors have to declare when selling ex police cars? and if so what's the legal implications if they fail to do this.... Read more

I would have thought an ex police car would be obvious to spot - discolouration where the badges were, all the holes cut in the dash and bodywork filled with rubber grommets and so on.

I need to change a damaged front panel on the fiesta 2007 Any help or tips for me please Read more

What help are you seeking? I assume you are talking about the panel the bonnet locks onto? Are they bolted or welded in place?

I recently purchased a 2011 Ford Transit 2.4 MWB High Roof van to convert to a camper. It was an ex power company van and they obviously had some kind of ventilations through the floor. The hole is about 10cm in diameter and the edges are unfinished (see photo link below) just behind the drivers side of the bulk head.

Does anyone know if this is likely to cause it to fail MOT inspection? If so what are my options? It had a wooden panel screwed over it when I go the van but not sure if this is any better. Any help would be much appreciated.... Read more

I hear you, but from what I can tell it's actually been very looked after. Far better condition than many 2011 Transit's I've looked at with very little rust and a solid service record. Yes its done 100K but i've seen very few at this age that have done less miles

Looking for a bit of inside knowledge here. The C Class estate is a car I’ve considered in the past as medium to large wagons are my preferred type of car. When I last changed my car, the reviews of the C Class were favourable but not glowing - for example, some rough engines and not the most comfortable ride unless you opt for the optional (and costly) adaptive suspension. Otherwise, I quite liked the proposition but bought elsewhere.

Just yesterday I saw a special offer on the C200 AMG Line petrol turbo with a substantial discount, coming in at just under £30K. The normal OTR price is more like £37K, which suggests that a new model is in the wings somewhere, but I can find no hint of a facelift or replacement model anywhere on the internet. Before I make official enquiries and try to avoid being dragged into the hard sell, has anybody seen or heard any mention of a new or facelifted version? I believe the last facelift was in 2018 along with a new range of engines. Read more

It might depend on what sort of Mercedes. About 10 years ago I changed from a Mercedes B-class to the first of my Skoda Octavia vRS estates, and got quite a few admiring comments about the Skoda: I can't remember anyone admiring the B-class (nor did I).

The fact that the Mercedes was silver and the Skoda a fetching shade of bright blue may have had something to do with it.

Recently I needed a hire car for a short trip to Devon and was allocated a Renault Captur 0.9 petrol. As I’m used to a Focus I was a bit concerned whether it would be big enough but it managed well.

On opening up the rear doors I thought it’s a bit cramped in there for adults. OK for kids maybe. Then I realised that the rear seat slides, enabling you to alter the boot space/rear cabin ratio. Not a new idea of course - I think the Citroen ZX had this on some models – but the first time I’ve seen it on a Renault.... Read more

Hi I have a Vauxhall Astra 1.4 petrol, 2015. It has a intermittent misfire but there are no lights on the dash. It seems to have got worse when it is a hot day. Plugs and coil pack seem ok, could this be a faulty ECU? Read more

I have swapped them over from another car, why I say seems, was because it slightly misfired on the other coil pack, but only once then was ok after that. When I swapped them back mine worked ok until the next day.

Hi All

Over two years after I asked on here for "first car" recommendations for my daughter, she's at last booked her test, in the second half of September. She reckons she's ready, but I'd like to take her out in my car and give her further practice if possible.... Read more

There is also this company which are still about since I packed up being an instructor ten years ago - so it must say something about them!

Silly name but quite good so I was told by pupils at the time....

Just read SLO76's annoying holiday experience of this. Nearly thirty years ago (when cars were easier to break into) I was undisturbed in broad daylight on holiday in Switzerland as I eventually gained access to our VW GL5 estate with a borrowed screw driver, pliers and wire coat-hanger. Since then I have always carried a spare key externally well secured in a secret place. How many other back-roomers do this? Read more

Spare key kept with a trusted relative who can get a replacement to me quickly if I'm local, or couriered next day 9am delivery if i'm a long way away.
