Hi,
Is anyone else finding that the over the air map updates aren't happening on their Professional sat nav? BMW are telling me that "a ticket has been raised" and that they don't have any idea when a fit will happen - the complaints department are saying "possibly some time next year". I've been told to do usb updates but am pretty put out as I'm paying more for the ota ones. No compensation has been offered,. Does anyone know of a workaround? I can't believe they advertise something that doesn't (and possibly never worked). Read more

Hi can anyone recommend a set tyres for my 2008 1.8 Honda Civic .
I do around 12 - 14k a year with a mix of motorway and town driving - currently fitted with Continentals on the front and Bridgestones ER300 on the back .
Have had a looked on Black Circles / ASDA and came up with
Firestone Roadhawks £53
or Bridgestone T005 at £64
or a Local tyre fitter who said he could supply Marshals at £40 each as he bought a job from a discontinued line.

Shahpur, glad you got your tyres sorted. At the end of the day it’s a 1.8 Civic you’re not really going to be taxing any mainstream tyre. Would you really notice a difference between one brand and another.
That's why, with a healthy pinch of salt, I always check the user reviews (and not just the magazine reviews) of tyres on the Tyre Reviews website, especially as you can choose reviews by either car model or size of tyre.
Some makes/models of tyre that do well in the magazine tests sometimes do VERY poorly for specific makes/models of car, especially RWD cars or those already not famed for good handling, like many MPVs/SUVs. Similarly, some (mid-range or premium) tyres that only do averagely well in the tests often do fine in the user reviews, often because the cars they are fitted to aren't performance/great handling models and aren't driven hard.

Well I'd check the power/ground to the ABS unit.
Handbrakes seem to be going the way of oil lamps - will any cars still have them in 5 years' time? Most likely not, with all the brake buttons and "auto hold" features creeping in everywhere.
Thinking back to a few cars in our family, there have been some weird examples over the years. Maybe these need to go in a "Handbrake museum" if anything so geeky were ever created....
"Next to the door for some reason": Rootes saloons and a few others;
"Umbrella handle, under the dashboard" (2CV; BMC 1800)
"Spade-handle - 'yank and twist' " (Citroën GS, Mercedes W126)
"Belongs in a plane cockpit" (Mk.1 Megane, Zafira; Peugeot 2008)
"Prize for the worst design ever" (Toyota Avensis - the only PRESS button brake in the world, and it's mounted almost completely out of sight.
"Nearly killed myself doing that donut in the carpark; why did no one tell me it operates the FRONT brakes?" (2CV; Alfasud; Saab 900) Read more
Now there's a thing, fly-off handbrakes. Much easier to use than the standard ratchet once accustomed to.
Yes, I had one on my enjoyable wreck of an ancient XK120 - sadly traded in for a more practical TR7 (now even more ancient) after marriage. Here's an explanatory post for youngsters who have never come across one....
Hello all.
Thinking of going petrol hybrid or possibly fully electric to replace a Fiat 500 that we only ever use for short runs and commuting about 30 miles a day.... Read more
Newer hybrids are not,old enough to show solid depreciation data but the industry seems to be predicting 50% retained value at three years old compared to 30% for a standard ICE car.
The last car we sold at 3 years old was the Nissan Note in May this year. It had a retail price of £16000 (inc white paint) and we got £6400 from Evans Halshaw under their "we gaurantee to beat WBAC" scheme. That is a retained value of 40%....
OMG...it gets worse.!.
I wasn't overly keen on the last lot...(particularly the ginger one who thankfully didn't last long)...and IMO they should have formatted the show to be completely different from the "original" and not try to do a copy.... Read more
I think the problem is that TG became popular because of the presenters rather than the content or car reviews, they evolved from the early stages of the show into the trio that became TG in essence.
Now they've gone, they can't force the show to work - it almost become popular by accident really - it only really started to pick up once James arrived....

C3, comfy, reasonably reliable and excellent value.
£10 is a more normal rate for the insurance - but in the case of my previous Hyundai and my present VW, not charged for warranty work - only servicing.
As posted, check your insurance policy as it may cover it anyway.
