While the Highway Code covers many signs, "Know Your Traffic Signs" is a more comprehensive guide.
Some signs is inconsistent, a black car under a black motorcycle means "No Motor Vehicles", yet other signs have a diagonal bar to denote "No Right Turn" or whatever. Read more

Thanks for giving us more information.
I'm even more sure that you should go for a petrol. Last year I bought, as a fun car, a 2010 BMW 125i convertible for £11,000. 3-litre straight-six and no turbo to go wrong. A joy to drive, and I can see where you're coming from....
5 year warranty and 5 years breakdown cover as standard? Is that correct ? Read more
I drove a Renegade for a month in the States as a hire car. I would never spend my own money on a Fiat, but I had to admit to myself that I got to like the car. It had a 2.4 litre petrol engine which was rather thirsty, but then fuel in the States is half the UK price. It was roomier than I thought it would be and it was well equipped. I liked the quirky looks and when I see a Renegade back home in the UK I always think whether I would really like to own one. Now that the 535 offer has been introduced, my doubts about Fiat reliability wouldn’t matter so much and I probably wouldn’t keep it beyond 5 years anyway.
In reality I don’t think I’ll be buying one, but the improved warranty, servicing and breakdown cover package has made me reconsider.
Had a Pug 2008 on hire for a week recently and found the projector headlight performance absolutely atrocious - Dipped beam was almost non-existent. I can't believe all projector headlights are this bad or is it just Peugeots? Read more
I've driven many buses in the past with projector headlights. They weren't all rubbish, but most were.
Seems like I'm in the DPF conundrum. I have a 2.1 diesel and do about 7,000 a year. I've had it four years now and wasn't aware 'til later about the problems. What's the best way to avoid the DPF issues?
I had the Forester serviced today and whilst picking up the car had a chat with the dealer service manager.
I mentioned Subaru dropping diesels and he was thankful of it. On a weekly basis he gets customers in with DPF and associated plumbing problems. In the vast majority of cases it is owners doing low miles who were seduced by the mpg figures. They have had decent mpg, but then get the bill for sorting out the DPF.
The impact of dieselgate and media stories about diesel, clean air zones etc means they now really struggle to get anyone interested in the few diesels they have in stock.
Being in the car trade he is hearing similar from dealers of marques which sell far far more cars a year than Subaru do.
He doesn't see diesel being chosen by many typical motorists over the next 2-3 years.
Hi i have been too look at a 2009 Vauxhall vivaro 2.0l cdti , lower powered version and I am a bit confused on whether it is chain driven or not . where do I look for some sort of confirmation ?Its not the 115 version as far as I know , also is there anything I should particularly look at ?. Many thanks in advanced Read more
All 2.0 cdti models are chain drive. That's not to say they are any better than the 1.9 belt version. Also check gearbox . The 6 speed variant is very weak ,with common faults of noise and gear selection.
So at approx 3pm today I got caught at a closed road junction which I had to reverse to turn around parked cars on my left and with no cars behind me I started reversing I had a quick look down the road behind me nothing there so I was watching the parked cars while reversing so I didn’t hit them and out of no ware a van came and parked right behind me as Iam reversing causing me to hit him.
We exchanged details and he was Latvian over in England in a Latvian van(Latvian plates and left hand drive) There is extremely minor damage to his bumper and by minor I mean the police where there and walked off not interested as it was that small.
His boss wanted my details which was fine but the van will not go to get looked at until it’s back in Latvia he arrives there Thursday but said it may not get looked at straight away I asked if he could let me know cost and I would pay without insurance claim as damage is that minor...but what’s the procedure when he’s taking the van back to another country and still driving it around for almost another week before going back?
I am notifying my insurance tomorrow morning but what do I do with regards to him travelling all that way before he’s considerng getting it looked at?
How can I post photos and I will show the damage my van has a small dent which I have already pushed out without damaging paint so my van is fine Read more
Personally I would make an emergency stop for a person or other road user, or large animal but certanly not for a dog/cat unless I knew there was no one behind me
In my opinion if something runs out the last thing you should be doing is deciding if its child, dog, cat and then checking its OK behind. By the time you ahve done that whatever it was has either escaped with one of its lives lost or its splat in the road....
It appears almost ALL Motorists fail to observe the posted limits because to them it would interfere with their progress.
Should any of these errant Motorists cause someone else to be killed or injured the FIRST thing they will do is LIE about the speed they were travelling at and THAT is a fact....
