Had someone break into my car; they got away with the £2 in coins in the glove but nothing else. They did however remove a plastic panel on the underside of the dashboard (drivers side, just above the levers for opening the boot and petrol cap cover).

Should I be at all worried? Not sure if they just did this to stop the alarm going off or whether they were trying to start the engine. Any thoughts would be gratefully appreciated! Read more

Some time ago I read about a car which had been stolen and subsequently recovered. The police founds that it now sported a Krooklok.

I can't imagine what the plastic clips could look like but the usual requirement for aftermarket wheels is usually referred to as spigot rings. These adjust the centre bore of the wheel to the smaller diameter of the hub spigot, which centres the wheel on the hub. The 'experts' you consulted should really have known this

Nearly all car wheels are spigot mounted. IIRC the wheels on my series Land Rover weren't, they were effectively centred by the wheel studs and nuts (which were also a lot meatier than is usual on cars)....

I bought a used car in August from a dealer. A number of serious faults have since arisen.

As already said, it’s all down to the value here. If it’s a sub £2k cheapo then no you’ll struggle to get anything, though it doesn’t hurt to ask and be polite but firm. The service light being on isn’t a fault and is easy to reset yourself if you take a quick sniff around online. No aircon is perfectly normal in an older motor and again not a fault with the way it drives or stops so again no it’s unrealistic to expect it on a cheapo, though the seller should’ve made you aware it wasn’t working, I would’ve. Dipped headlights are likely to be a minor issue, possibly bulbs or wiring but any old Citroen will throw up issues like this on a regular basis so you’ll need a good auto electrician if you want to keep it.

I know people were injured in the van but the incident does have a comical element.

Hi
I brought a Vauxhall Astra 4 weeks ago from a used car dealer.
Within a 3/4 days I had a engine message saying the coolant was low.
So I took it to my mechanic he said to just fill it up with coolant which I did. Within a few days the engine message came up again.
So I emailed the dealer and explain to them what happened and also The fact that water was somehow getting into the door and I had a bucket load of water after one night of heavy rainfall.
So I took the car back to the dealer and they took the car to mechanic to fix the issues they changed the coolant tank and told me they will do the door another day.
So within a week the collant message came back and then the key started getting stuck in engine when turning the car off. Also the car one morning decided to just cut out in a middle of a traffic jam and didn’t come back on for 2-3 mins.
So last Thursday i dropped the car back. Asked for a refund as I feel the car is unroadworthy They obviously declined and said it’s minor faults and I was fighting for 2 hours and then left the car with them.
On Tuesday i picked up the car and today 2 days later the collant message has come up again. So I have called them and of course they want me to drop the car back. Again. This isn’t a option as I have two small kids. I Explaind to them I can’t be going there weekly with faults. What do I do now? Do I have any rights for a refund?? I was told to do a small court claim. The 30 day period exteds when it is returned to the seller for repair work though.

Agreed. The dealer has had several chances to fix it. There's still a problem....

but I had been told that you just have to find a dealer who's good

I don't buy from dealers these days, buying from brokers is far easier and you know exactly what you will be paying....

For anyone who hasn't seen last nights (1st of new series) episode of The Last Leg, it is well worth watching it on catch up or one of the repeats. Chris O'Dowd was one of the guests (the other being Jessica Hynes), he was a little drunk when he came on and just carried on drinking. He just got funnier and funnier as the show progressed!. It is is a very entertaining show anyway, but with Chris, I was literally crying with laughter, funniest thing I've seen on TV for a long time!. Read more

Well with only 8K on the clock it's unlikely to be the usual suspect fuel filter.

And with that on the clock it's going to be fairly new so take it to the dealer for a code read/diagnostic.

K series engines have a cooling system capacity designed for optimum efficiency. Unfortunately this does mean the engine will overheat very quickly in the event of coolant loss, and head gasket failure is common.
