Looking for some guidance.

My wife has received an NIP today dated 11th October referring to an offence on Wednesday 10th August at 2325 hours. 10th August this year was actually a Friday when we were on holiday 150 miles from the alleged location though we would have passed through the place at about that time on Saturday 11th August.... I think it's risible that they can do this. Just how difficult is it to send a correct NIP?

I wonder if Nick Freeman knows if there is any way this type of f***-up can be thrown out?...

I managed to go into the output tests in vag com and both the speedometer and rev counter worked fine...so I disconnected the battery for 5 or 10 mins, re-connected it and cleared the faults but they just came straight back on. I did check fuses but I will get a better look at them all tomorrow...

And you could replaçe it 100 more times and it still won't cure it. Thats because the fault code isn't telling you what the fault is, it's telling where the fault was reported from. You now need to do some diagnostic work to find out why the engine is running inefficiently which is causing the O2 sensor to read what it is. There could be any number of reasons which might or might not be obvious. I'd start by doing some live data checks, and check the fuel trim readings.

So, my Civic has two small distortions in one of the front wheels. Whilst there's only a slight wheel wobble at high speed, it's something I still want to get sorted. The garage claim that it's rare for a wheel to crack but it could happen nonetheless. In that case the wheel can be welded, which I'm dubious of.

Have any forum members had a wheel straightened or welded? What were your experiences like? Read more

Bolt

Apparently they drill a hole at the end of the crack in order to prevent it from spreading

If a welder knows his job they wont worry about drilling a hole, once you've learnt how to weld alloys its rare you get it wrong...

Lots of cars are now coming with CVT transmissions. What are they like for maintenance? Do they need oil and belt changes and if so how often and what does it cost? Do they have any other requirements? Are they reliable for long term ownership? Read more

Please could you help I am trying to identify a wire within the steering wheel of a Citroen C2, the wire is the same as the airbag wire but with a green connector. The airbag wire has a black connector (this is connected at the moment) the green connector just seems to sit in the plastic and not connect to anything

Spent the weekend on the Isle of Wight at Bembridge. I was a bit surprised at the number of oil tankers just anchored in the solent. Whats going on? Are they really just waiting there for the price to go up before they unload? Is it speculation? Lots of ferries and container ships passing by but virtually all the tankers just sitting there.

Anyone know more? Read more

The tankers that you saw anchored in the Nab anchorage will be waiting to berth at Esso Fawley jetty ( it's a mile long!) mostly loaded with crude for the refinery that provides 20% of the fuel for the UK. It's on the west side of Southampton water.

The Nab anchorage is named after the Nab Tower a large navigation mark east of the I of W....

Seems like a dealer to me.

I recently sold my SIL's car, but I insisted he got a new V5 showing my home address as where it was registered. Not an additional owner, but it gave some confidence to the buyer as to the legitimacy of the sale.

Its worth saying that I have no connection with LV other than as a policy holder.

I know from previous threads that a number of backroomers use them too Just had the renewal through from them. Price was £242, compared to £223 last year.

My cover includes a fair number of extras (protected NCD, legal cover, enhanced personal accident cover). It now automatically includes 180 day comprehensive European cover. I probably don't need this so I ran comparisons without it.

A Comparison site and Direct Line could get me down to about £190 for a similar package. If I stuck to the household names the lowest was about £220. In each case without European cover. LV themselves came out at £250 on the site which is reassuring for me as an existing policy holder. I hate when insurers favour new customers over existing.

Armed with the quotes I rang up LV saying I could get it cheaper. They reduced it to £229, so I've renewed. Seems a good deal.

I do wonder though about the European bit. I am paying for something I may not use but I guess it only adds a few quid to the policy.

Walking into the Sainsbury’s car park today I smelt the scent of burning marijuana, very sweet and distinctive. A van was pulling out. I carried on walking and as the van passed I smelt it again, but fainter. The driver’s hand was resting on the open window frame, with what looked like a joint in his hand. So, what do you do? Ring the police and waste their time because they can’t look out for a van? Take photos and contact the police, but without proof that it wasn’t a roll up? Or approach the driver and politely and calmly give them an earful?

I’m disgusted that someone would drive under the influence. Read more
