So,

Having had a terrible experience with a Nissan Pathfinder and head gaskets and cylinder heads, I tend to be a little more aware of where the temp gauge is on my Mondeo. Today on the way back from a fairly long trip, I noticed that when the car was at low revs, the temperature guage dropped to almost 60 (the temp gauge has 60 at the cold end and 120 at the warm end). Normally the car sits stable at around the middle part (presumably about 90) regardless of where the throttle is. On this occasion it would fall slowly, but noticeably, and then rise when the throttle was applied to normal temperature. ... Read more

Our cmax 1.6 tdci temp drops when left idling in cold weather. I always assumed this was because diesels are more thermally effcient than petrol engines.

My 2003 A4 Tdi 130 has started making a humming noise from the steering on slow speed turns. It happens whether the engine is hot or cold.
The fluid is up to the level.
Is there any way of telling whether the pump or the rack is causing the problem? The belt seems ok. Read more

My indie has taken a look and says I worry too much and he can find no issues.
The noise is evident on a severe turn when monoevering and sounds like a humming noise.
There is some vibration through the steering column.
Appears to be most evident in cold weather.
The fluid level is OK throughout.
Have you any more thoughts please ?

Thank you, you were correct. Not sure of the science behind it, but all three bulbs had blown at once.

. Also remember that nothing you buy is future proof, so I would consider what you are going to need it for and decide from there.

That's a good point and for the number of times I will use it it is probably not worth investing too much money. Launch and Autel seem to offer the best vale for money

Just bought a 2008 Ford Focus car from second hand car dealer who has thirty cars for sale on their garage forecourt. The car is 10 year old January 2019 and alreasdy has 119,000 miles on car clock. Informed by a friend that it must have timing belt changed when car 10 year old or when millage reaches 100,000 miles on clock. The garage never told me and no evidence the job has been done.

What can I do about this. Also, any idea of the likely cost to replace the timing belt on ford focus 1.6 2008 and how many hours to complete the job.... Read more

Earlier this week, we witnessed a drunk driver, he'd stopped near where we were after just being involved in an rtc. We didn't realise he was drunk until we approached him to ask if he was ok. He reeked of alcohol . He'd gotten out of his car and ignored us when we said we could smell alcohol on him. He got back into his vehicle at which point we took his keys out of the ignition and retreated to a safe distance to phone the police. The police arrived within 10-15 minutes but during this time, he ran off (well staggered) and returned home, which the police found was 2 short streets away (less than 200 metres). He had left identifying documents with his address in inside his car. The police when straight there and breathisied him, we're told he was over 4 times the legal limit. (And had no insurance!) The police came and took a statement from us and a couple of days later they phoned us to update us. He has pleaded NOT GUILTY saying he drank when he got home. I understand this is called the Hip Flask Defense. Another witness saw the rtc and phoned it in as he drove off (hit a hedge so no other vehicle damaged), they have also identified the person we saw as the driver. He's not a young chap, I'd say over 60.

My question is will the back calculation prove he WAS drunk at the time of driving? Or does he have a chance of getting off? Will the courts give him a heftier sentence for lying? And if found guilty what is he likely to get? I don't know why, but it has really got to us that he has lied about it, he could barely stand up when we saw him, and hadn't noticed we’d got his keys, he even grasped around at the ignition trying to start his car!

Thanks for reading and any information would be appreciated.

Can’t say I ever had any bother with them. I found them fairly respectable cheap runabouts. But sheer volume sold meant there had to be some that went wrong. Plus GM we’re always bad for cost cutting.

LandRover Discovery 4 passenger foot well flooded early August. It has been with the main dealer since then and I still have not had my car. Instead of 7 seater which I need, I am driving around with a small 5 seater car. I have raised an issue with Land Rover centrally who say their only obligation is keep me mobile. My question in I am paying for a car that is now sitting at the dealership for more than 2 months. Is this acceptable? what are my rights as a consumer if any. Many thanks. Read more

You are more likely to get a useful answer if you say what country you are in, how old the car is, whether it is in warranty when you bought it, and whether it is the subject of a lease, hire purchase agreement or similar e.g. PCP.

My son's mate has a Ka which has a box under the driver's seat with wires going into it, he says it fills all the space underneath. Does anyone know what this is, as his Ford Dealer doesn't (no surprise to me!). I wondered if it is airbag controls? Read more

Andrew-T

Very probably the connection block for the seat airbag system. There is also one under the passenger seat.

What? Filling all the space underneath?
