Hi,
I have a 2011 Sata Fe that uses oil. I checked it yesterday, when it was around 0 degrees. It is low and I need to put oil in, but could't get the oil filler cap off.... Read more
Use a hair dryer to heat it up.

Another winter driving tip:
If you are using your windscreen wipers, when you come to the end of your journey remember to switch them off before you switch the ignition off. The wipers will go to their 'parked' position (front and rear wipers).
When you re-start your car if its frosty or covered in snow the wipers won't be straining against being frozen to the glass or a heavy load of snow. This can cause damage to the wiper blades, wiper arms and the motor as well as the linkage levers.
Its a good idea to try to do this every time even in warmer times so that you get into the habit and do it automatically. Read more
I am an advocate of cold weather tyres too. Insurance excess will pay for two tyres. And may save lots of inconvenience in the long run.
Is it possible to buy an upgraded headlamp bulb that does not have a drastically reduced life span? If so where?
I was thinking of Hir2 in particular and possibly H4... Read more
Yes - PIAA have extended life but very expensive - just buy Philips Xtreme or Osram Nightbreaker and live with their reduced life.

Got a nail in one of my winter tyres at weekend. Had to replace with full-size spare, but this is summer tyre. Offside rear. Car is front-wheel drive, 2 litre diesel.
Is it unsafe to drive? Hoping to trade car in soon, so don't really want to buy new winter tyre. ... Read more
Thanks for the advice. Have ordered a new winter tyre and it will be fitted tomorrow. Handling when driving seems fine, but the ABS is kicking in when I brake at junctions etc, so there are obviously issues with driving on three.
Anyone know if the original battery on a ford focus 1.6 auto needs topping up or if it is sealed?
If it is unsealed I will order a Hydromoter.... Read more
How things have changed, i remember when we ran Transits back in the 70's it became a standing joke that the OE Motorcraft battery would expire the very first frosty morning after the 12 month warranty ran out, 13 months and battery kaput was nothing unusual.
Hi
This is an odd one so bare with me - note - I am taking my car to the garage to try to get this fixed tomorrow, but if can do it myself or at least point the mechanic in the right direction it would be a huge help.
When it's cold and raining the following things happen to my car -
The headlights brighten and dim randomly
The windscreen wipers go super fast when on normal speed randomly... Read more

Overheard a conversation a little over an hour ago. A non-drivrer asked ther neighbour if they could give them a lift this morning as they were concerned their bus for work would not run. The neighbour declined as they did not want to take the risk! Sounds they are sticking to off-roading over pavements and verges! Probably off the Xmas card list as well! Read more
Some appear to be getting a little defensive about this thread. From what I have read maybe the word 'justify' has been the wrong choice. No one has to justify their purchase of any vehicle to anyone else. They do however have to justify it to themselves or worse still SWMBO!! Buy what ever vehicle you wish, it is your hard eraned cash to spend as you or SWMBO see fit.
If money were no object, then like Manatee I would probably drive something different, but at present I can't 'justify' it! There's that word again!!...
For your info V50 owners. Try to make this short. Fault was DPF - soot filter indicated. Took to local garage. First - regen. Came up again. Garage took to Volvo to confirm DPF required replacing which they agreed. DPF replaced (euro parts) . Fault codes still indicated. Volvo stated DPF readings ok. Volvo stated Turbo faulty - Turbo replaced (Euro parts) Volvo stated readings from turbo ok. Fault codes still indicated. Volvo got another volvo same model and year removed parts to fit to mine but nothing rectified fault codes. Volvo stated Computer may be faulty but would not be sure this was fault. Now local garage paying costs up to this point it was me. Computer replaced. Garage took case to EMI. Computer replaced By Volvo fault codes still came up. Volvo stated could not understand codes. Sweden Technical engineers now involved. Wiring loom checked -ok . Volvo technical staff stated DPF and turbo needs to be replaced to Volvo parts garage had to pay which was done. This cleared fault codes.Car returned but lots of damage. Once again garage had to pay. Read more
