More info needed, please.
Mileage? Belt service history? Is the whistle frequency proportional to the engine revs? With the bonnet open and the engine idling, can you still hear it? If so, where does it seem to come from.....and does it stop if you spray the auxiliary belt with water?...

Hi on my astra 1.9 cdti 120 model have had an intermittent starting problem sometimes it takes 4 or 5 turns to start or sometimes it will start straight away then the spanner light came on and plugged diagnostics in and came up with p0340-28 refer to owners manual so checked code on the net and came up with camshaft sensor is this at fault or could crank sensor be at fault , how can I test these thanks Read more
Hi thanks I will do can sensor and will do cambelt at same time
My son's E320 auto estate sits on his drive because it is completely unsuitable for this week's icy conditions.
Luckily he was able to borrow my A4 for the day to visit his business premises.... Read more
No greater problem with my MB in the snow and ice than other cars I've had. Best one though was an old style Fiat Panda. I remeber asome one with a Land rover saying it was no good on the slippy stuff.
Hi,
I posted on this forum a few months back for advice on buying a van and a couple of replys told me to look out for a Hiace. I found this one and am very interested. Please take a look and I'd love some feedback and advice. ... Read more
I'd certainly go and look at it, would be most interested in the service history, assuming this is the 2.5 Hilux Diesel engine it requires oil changes at 9 or 10k and cambelt off the top of me head is at 90k (check that), so that will need doing (depending on when the first one was done) in 20k or so, the 3 litre D4D is the easiest cambelt i've ever changed, not sure about the 2.5, might be worth getting a quote for that from a Toyota dealer so you know beforehand.
Just looked up the vehicle enquiry website. It's 2494cc.

Your previous post reminds me. I'd forgotten that ours also had a head gasket failure when our son had it. I note that your overall Corsa experience and view are more positive than mine. Maybe the Corsa C is better put together than our D?
Shameless spamming, from an organisation big enough to know better. Read more
It isn't.
The wife has a Hyundai i30 which we bought new 8 years ago and which has been faultless up till last week. We then had the door window fail to raise. Put it into our local dealer and they replaced the entire interior of the door! It is a big plate with wire strung round running through plastic guides and catches. One of them had broken so the entire assembly had to be replaced at a cost of A$400 instead of just the broken catch which would have been a trivial cost! I don't blame the dealer who has always been totally honest and helpful. I blame Hyundai and the mentality of don't fix the broken bit - get a complete new assembly. There is a market out there for some backyard guy to make replacement pulleys and catches that can be fitted to the existing assembly. OK the dealer won't be allowed to use them but the local independent can and will.
To think that we are encouraged to recycle milk cartons and they throw away complete door interiors for a 20 cent broken catch! This sort of short sighted profit seeking will come back and bite car companies through dissatisfied customer feedback on sites like this. Read more
They are not called main s******s for nothing.
But onus is on customer to get a quote before giving go ahead for the work to be done....
It's always good to be reminded that all that's keeping the average family car in contact with the road - is four A4 sheet sized areas of rubber. It's actually fairly amazing that anyone stays underway in 'less than ideal conditions', at all! :-) Read more
It makes sense for those frightened of severe weather motoring to not venture out, and it makes sense for people to at least prepare themselves and their vehicles for bad weather. It's no help to anyone the roads full of ill prepared and stranded vehicles with drivers lacking suitable supplies or suitable clothing needing to be saved from their own folly.
We don't get enough snow in England, the most populated part of the isles, for people to learn from an early age (and their mistakes eg no decent coat, silly shoes) that bad weather is dangerous and should be respected, if the incompetent kept out of the way for a while it would leave the gritters and suitable people/vehicles to grind the snow down and all could return to normal....

There are an endless number of possible reasons for an engine running too rich, which it sounds like it is if the plugs are black and sooty. Forget fault codes. The presence of them or otherwise doesn't prove anything. Just because there are no fault codes does not mean there are no faults. It only means that as far as the ECM is concerned nothing is outside of its parameters.
Essentially it means the engine is drawing too much fuel or too little air. First you need to do some fuel trim checks with a suitable scantool to see if the ECM is adding fuel to compensate for a lean running condition, or taking fuel away to compensate for a rich condition. Then if so you need to figure out why. Possible causes would include a blocked or dirty air filter, faulty mass air flow sensor, stuck open EGR valve, blocked or worn fuel injector nozzles, blocked exhaust or faulty O2 sensor.
