I bought a 61 plate, 34k miles last week. Put it in for a service yesterday and the garage informed me there are hairline cracks on the gearbox, but it's not leaking. They advised I take it back to the dealer I bought it from for a repair. The dealer are refusing as they say if it's not leaking then it's not faulty. They have said it is wear and tear and I should expect that on a second hand car. Is this reasonable wear and tear? Read more
Only recently spotted references to it although it was announced a while ago.
I really thought they would have used this re-vamp as an opportunity to substantially improve the NCAP safety rating (currently three stars). But according to the reports it might creep up to four stars by virtue of adding some additional collision avoidance etc. Maybe, in reality, it's as safe as most of its peers but I, for one, would have been encouraged by a better official rating.... As far as I can tell from reading the forums where these things tend to be discussed, the Powershift (again to pluck an example out of the air for no particular reason) began to exhibit problems as soon as it was introduced, with buyers of new cars experiencing judder and missed/ wrong gear changes within a few hundred miles of taking delivery.
If the Dacia EDC isn't yet showing signs of disintegrating a year after being introduced, its probably a hopeful sign.
Seen on BBC News web site.
"New car registrations dropped 11% in November, the eighth month of decline this year - with diesels down a whopping 30%." Read more
I have bought 2 new cars in the last 40 years but mostly stick to used ones. The cost of new cars seems very high and the initial depreciation is very high. I have no plans to upgrade mine and am sitting waiting to see how the market pans out.

You are always advised to check things out carefully before you buy. It looks like PSA just went round and kicked the tyres before they signed the cheque. Read more
PSA are daft if they believed GM's engines where close to the claims
They have no chance of getting a penny back....
With increased congestion on slip roads there is now a growing habit of queueing on the hard shoulder of a motorway. Often up to 300 yard countdown and beyond. However HC rule 264 clearly states "You MUST NOT drive on the hard shoulder except in an emergency or if directed to do so by the police, traffic officers in uniform or by signs"
Sitting in lane 1 at start of slip road with left indicator on will most likely result in being taken out by following vehicle travelling at 70mph +.... Read more
I think it's more complicated than the level of growth in population and vehicle numbers.
Improve a road and people change their behaviours - including taking jobs with a longer commute or moving house further away. If there is any relief it is probably to other roads in the area, for a brief period....
Hi, I recently got into a car accident. It was very minor but it was my first one and I'm not really sure what to do. I started to back up then saw another car backing up so I stopped to wait for them to go first. That person backed up right into my car. We exchanged insurance information but the thing that has me worried is the person accused me of hitting them when it was the other way around. When I told them that, they didn't admit fault. I asked for advice and someone told me to report it right away to their insurance because it can be seen as admitting fault if you don't report it. I would ask the person if they're going to try and file a claim on my insurance but I've had bad experiences with people lying before about accidents similar to this one. Also wondering if they file a claim on me and I file a claim on them if it would impact my insurance rate. Would appreciate any information or advice on the topic.
Would also like to add the damage to their car seemed pretty minor too. I didn't see any denting (but I might've missed it), and it just looked like some of the paint got removed. Read more
Can't say this often enough - get a dashcam. They're not expensive, just buy the best you can afford.
Today's society seems to involve around not admitting fault or lying to avoid the blame (and financial penalty)....
Hi,

As, the title says, I have a couple of smears of chewing gum on one of the rear leather seats of my CX-5.
Leaving aside my intense annoyance at how his happened (don't ask), what's the best way of removing the stuff without damaging the leather, which is black and will be sure to show any loss of colour etc.?... Read more
Thanks for the suggestions - humorous and otherwise.
This morning I went out while the car was cold and managed to scrape off most of the stuff with a blunt knife. I used parcel tape to pull up any loose bits, but had to use a watchmaker's screwdriver to poke out gum from the myriad of little holes cut in the leather, presumably for ventilation purposes....

Good for you. Its not "wear and tear" and I've no recollection of any other 207 owners on the Pug forums reporting anything similar.
