My son lives in an area where snow and ice cause problems every winter. He has a C4 Grand Picasso 2007 and is considering a 4WD vehicle, but I wondered if a spare set of wheels with winter tyres might do the job. It would certainly be cheaper, but the C4 isn't the most sure footed vehicle to start with and winter tyres might not be effective. I would be glad of any thoughts. Read more
I've recently noticed that when the weather's quite foggy / misty / damp, the car can feel very hesitant in acceleration.
I think it mostly happens in 2nd / 3rd gears, when it just feels flat and could potentially stall when in first.... Read more
Usual suspects on these for this type of problem, are coil pack, spark plugs or Ht leads.
Hi all
I've just bought a 6 month old A5. Originally I was going to pay ££ but the finance option appeared to make too much sense - £1.25k from Finance, and 2 free services.... Read more
I have done this twice , paid up before 14 days and kept incentives and free services. s******s dont miss out as its the manufacturers that pay for it.

I don't know how much of a road engineer's remit includes the behaviour of other road users - and of the drivers themselves. The purpose may be to limit the speed of vehicles to 20mph, but the shape of the humps may be such that they can only genuinely be nogotiated (without cumulative damage) to about 12mph.
So besides this cumulative damage, there is annoyance to local residents caused by cyclic accelerations, plus the nuisance factor of parked vehicles sometimes making it impossible to straddle cushions in the manner intended. All in all, they are a very mixed blessing, and only a very partial cure.
I am in the proccess of filling in a loan application and have come upon a space where i have to fill in my mortgage age. What does this mean?, as i'm not very sure at all!
Thanks Read more
I agree ask the mortgage company, or just go to the bank and ask them,
in person, any bank should be able to help you.
Due to unforeseen circumstances i have found myself in the unfortunate position of having to get myself a replacement van asap.
Unfortunately, as is so often the case, there are very few examples of anything in the North East of Scotland. But i have noticed that a commercial vehicle dealer not too far away in Aberdeen has a few possibilities and i plan to go for a look tomorrow.... Read more

Is is me or could this be laid out better. Having to click through 1 to 10 and wait for the page to load is irritating. Wouldn't a layout such as HJ great weekly angony Q&A pages be better for readability??? Note im using the Satisfaction Index as an example othere parts of the site is like this as well
I don't experience hardly any delay waiting for pages to load. I have BT Infinity b/band which is up to 70Mbps but generally get between 40 and 50. More than enough for what I want. I use an HP Elitebook laptop with Windows 7 and Firefox as a browser. Pretty standard stuff really, no complaints. I do run Adblocker, which Outlook doesn't like. Tough.
Cheers Concrete.
I have a canadian nephew studying here for 5 years. At home he drives a choice of family cars from a BMW328ix, a mercedes c250 4wd and a humble toyota mini MPV (which is what he goes out and drives when he doesn't want to go fast but enjoy pushing it a bit.
Last week I took him off for a well deserved week in spain, and he hated the fiat punto i hired, which was strange as he didn't drive it in spite of pestering me as he had forgotten his IDP...... Read more
I'd look for a 2004ish Honda Civic Type S (5 door) a slightly frumpy looking car perhaps, but it's one of those cars that's (real world) much quicker than the figures suggest as the bullet-proof 2 litre engine is tuned for mid-range grunt – unlike the over-priced, abused (and expensive to insure) type Rs. It has softly sprung but well damped suspension so is comfortable - leans a bit but actually grips very well. A car you can make very good progress in by being smooth. Just like any Honda of the era - I'd recommend you change the brake fluid straight away and then every two years to keep the ABS modulator from dying of internal corrosion. The Type S is a much underrated warm hatch - reminds me a bit of a Triumph Dolomite Sprint in a strange kind of way – a car that can be rowed along fast on mid-range torque and rewards the driver with decent md-corner speed by progressively leaning on the suspension rather than chucking it in. Get one with the stock 16 inch rims, larger rims spoil the enjoyable characteristics of the car IMHO....

I don't think I would bother shelling out for a set of winter tyres and rims for a 10 year old Picasso. If the current tyres are worn, replacing with something like the Michelin CrossClimates would make sense.
