I read an article in the news online that the cars now have become so easy to steal that it just takes a minute to unlock and start the car. With a device available over the internet it is possible to interogate the car key from the street and unlock the car. New car owners are resorting to the modern version of Krooklok. I still use one that I bought 20 years ago.
Does anybody remember the model that clipped onto the steering wheel and a pedal ? One of my acquaintances drove down a friend’s driveway after a convivial evening and ended up in the storm drain, buckling the car’s steering rods. He was new to crooklocks and had forgotten that he had put it on. He’d also put it around the brake pedal instead of the clutch.... Read more
Years ago a magazine I took gave a graph of mpg against speed. Surely even easier with modern technology, but I can't find one anywhere.
I remember that an injected BMW was much more economical at low speeds than my Renault with a twin choke Webber but at higher speeds the role was reversed.
Some cars respond well to lower speeds while some suffer badly at motoway speeds.
Come on Somebody! Give us a speed graph + a simulated town firgure to show the ewffect of acceleration.
That would get my vote any day and might show that a powerful engine well geared can be economical when driven steadily but has the reserve to overtake more safely.

Just called in to my local (only) bank branch in the neighbourhood to open a new account for my teenage daughter (who has just got a part-time job, hence the need).
Two ladies behind the counter chatting amongst themselves and no customers in the bank (apart from my daughter and I).... Read more

Some car parks have parking slots which make it a very tight sqeeze between cars. Best local one is the town centre in Town which even big cars get in easily but the Brooks one in Winchester is a mess. Even getting in a space dosen't mean you will be able to open your door wide enough to get out. Read more
Also, it only takes one badly parked car to mess up a whole row.
Have you watched 'Curb your enthusiasm' when larry David has a go at a guy who parks badly? ...

I was after a petrol V60 too when I got mine - but there were no demonstrators anywhere and it seemed that the petrol T3 was sluggish and the T4 thirsty. So I got the diesel rather by default.
For the record, manual V60s don't have a footrest but the automatics do - a sturdy effort just in the right place.
Hi everyone having a stressful time .. iknow I'll have to wait but I want to ask

True, but they can do that in any car. OPs question seemed to be whether there was anything special about that car, which there isn't.
Whether he was caught for speeding, it's highly unlikely, but not impossible. The vast majority of stationary police cars are not sitting with radar guns, so he should chill out and wait 14 days. Only a week to go now!
Why would anyone buy a new diesel or certainly not a secondhand DIesel. Having read the forum for some time now all I read is diesel problems and usually expensive ones at that. Ok I suppose while in warranty But HJ today on the Landrover Discovery 'do not switch off but drive another 5 or 10 miles to regenerate the DPF and this is a newish car. Sorry I am late home but I am just rejenerating and wasting my time and money trying to save the planet !
<< I'm still waiting to see how long the new generation small capacity turbo petrols will last before they start going wrong. >>
I love that quote. I imagine you, four years later, still waiting for something to make you say 'I knew they were unreliable ..' :-)...
Back in May I had an incident where someone failed to stop at a roundabout and crunched into my passenger door (it was a glancing blow at low speed). Their front wing was damaged as was my door panel.
The other party admitted fault, and their insurance company was in regular touch with me, and they ended up paying me a settlement, which I then used to pay for a new door (as I was going to be using used parts from an indy specialist garage they couldn't pay for this directly).... Read more
Hi
It is almost certain your insurance company would have been informed of the incident, and as such will be on the database that all insurance companies have access to, it is a condition of all insurers that all incidents, blameless or otherwise be reported, if not they are allowed to cancel your policy without notice and as such you will get pulled by the police for having none, if you have started a new policy then its all academic....

'Peugeot Django 125'- Quote, "However - as with all scooters - it's a machine made for towns rather than motorways." I don't think those who have ridden a Honda Silverwing, Suzuki Burgman 650 or Aprilia SRV850, to name but three, would agree with that statement. All scooters are certainly not made for towns rather than motorways. As a primarily car based magazine HJ may be best to do some research into the subject before making such an uninformed comment. Yes, but the 3 you mention are maxi-scooters, which are an entirely different machine from a scooter, which to all apart from perhaps you Lee, refer to around the 125cc mark. I tried riding my old KMX125 on the motorway a few years ago. It was b***** scary, I won't be doing that again.

I use a steeeing wheel lock also.
I’m lucky to have a longish drive but still use it when I’m defrosting the car in the morning.
