I have car breakdown with Barclays, but I was thinking of switching to Nationwide Building Society. I think the Barclays one is with RAC. But I have not used the service.

I am thinking of switching to Nationwide Building Society, but their car breakdown is with Liverpool Victoria and they use a company called Britannia Rescue. I have n't heard of them. So I don't know the quality of the service. ... Read more

I have this with Nationwide.

I haven't used it but the mobile phone insurance was very easy to do with a relatively small excess. I do find Nationwide quite reasonable generally (except on a 'minor' mortgage issue) so would recommend giving them a chance....

We bought (private) a 2005 RAV 4 a month or so ago & very pleased with it. The previous owner had it from new & all the booklets/paperwork & receipts for maintenence were given to me. As my son gave me a Haynes manual for Christmas, it states within this that removing the battery will lead to losing the radio code. There's nothing within the hand book that states this & l can't find any recorded radio code in the documentation. There is a receipt for a new battery in 2013, so it will be coming to the end of its life.

Any RAV 4 owners who would know where to locate the code? Failing this are these memory savers any good?... Read more

Thank you. From what l've researched & your comment above, it doesn't look like this model is coded.

A couple of inches of slush and the traffic england map is full of stretches of red and black (=non-moving traffic). A14 closed due to difficulty removing jack-knifed HGV.

We can now be fined for running out of petrol on motorways. Perhaps large fines for those who paralyse a significant proportion of the country's GDP - number of person-hours + tons of static goods-hours x £10? Might concentrate the minds of cavalier HGV drivers and haulage companies with virtually slick tyres on their vehicles in winter conditions. Read more

Having driven to work this morning through Durham/Sunderland to Tyneside it became blindingly obvious which councils had done something about the snow.

In Durham - main roads and dual carriagways blocked/single lanes of two tracks in the snow - but when you hit the county border with Sunderland there was literally a line where the two lanes had been gritted and ploughed and were fully usuable....

Hi all
My wife is looking to change her fiat 500x for something similar and diesel this time as her commute is longer. Ive done some research and narrowed down to Nissan Juke, Qashqai, Kuga? Her priorities are cheap to run, highish driving position , space for 2 kids and practicality. She likes the kind of funky look of that makes sense?! Read more

Lots of options around, including the Renault Captur. We have one in our fleet. Almost three years old and no repairs needed at all. 0.9l 3cyl turbo petrol engine will easily cruise at 75mph. 50mpg likely under those conditions.

However, if the 14,000 miles a year of Nathan 's wife are mainly longer journeys, then every reason to look at diesels as well. It's frequent, short, cold stop start journeys that kill the DPF not longer ones. 35 miles each way averaging say 40mph will be perfect for a diesel.

Following on from my previous post re haggling, i thought i'd update on how it all went.

1st, as expected, my non existent haggling ability was once again well proven. But i did get a full tank of diesel, hey ho, every little helps!... Read more

Great to know that, apart from the Megabus horror, your search has ended well, BDB. Also good to hear about the positive experience you had with the seller.

All too often the tale told by those who submit themselves to the mercies of motor dealers and then decide to tell the world about it via the internet is one of serious pocket depletion, disappointment and weeks or months of chronic hassle.

Just changed the battery and straight away there was a high pitched beep coming from somewhere in the passenger side light cavity at the rear. Nothing to do with ignition as this beep is continuous and happens even whether they ignition is on or not. It's a bit annoying and quite useless on its own. Is there anyone who can help?

Hi Jim

Is your car fitted with a towbar? If it is I think the buzzing will be coming from the 7-way bypass relay, which will be wired in between the rear lights and the lighting socket on the towbar....

Realised that taking bikes on a carrier for a trip out or a weekend away just isn't working.
Firstly with no tow bar it means fiddling with straps etc and anxious moments looking in the rear view mirror to see if a Raleigh Tourer has been dropped in the carriageway. Then finding a safe place to store the bike at the hotel.

Researching what bikes are available the Brompton seems to be the preferred choice. But at close on £1000 each I wonder if this is a Morgan effect.

Made one mistake buying a Daiwoo with small wheels but could anyone recommend an alernative with larger wheels say 18 to 20 inch ? Read more

I was at a cycling event, I was lucky enough to ride on a GoCyle. It is an electric cycle and when I rode, it was one of the most exciting cycling experience of my life! You need to start peddling a little, press a button and the power kicks in. I have never gone so fast on a cyle. It does fold down.
