I am looking forward to change my car sometime next year.

While I do 10k miles a year it is variable. I could be doing starship mileage in one month and next months only short journeys. This makes be worried about diesels (or I should not be?). Also , I am not sure what will happen to resale value for diesels with so much diesel bashing in media.... Read more

I guess i was trying to address the Diesel question and its value for resale.. in my experience leasing gets rid of that worry.

Apologies if i broke any rules - just trying to help.

Clutch pedal on my wife's Hyundai Ix35, 93,000 miles, travels to the floor before it disengages. Then only have to lift about half an inch to engage again. Gear change has become quite notchy.

Does this suggest a worn clutch, or is it more likely to be the engagement mechanism? It is a hydraulic clutch so no adjustment.... Read more

Hi rooba63,

Did you manage to fix the clutch problem? I'm having the exact same issue with my ix35 so I was just wondering what it turned out to be?...

I'm in the market for a cheap used car and have come across the above vehicle, which seems promising. The private seller (who sounds like an 'old boy'!) swears he has had the cambelt and waterpump changed a year ago but has lost the related paperwork and also lost touch with the mobile mechanic who did the work! Sounds like a story, I know, but... he sounded genuine. The car happens to be local to where I live...

Now I know little about cars so please excuse what is possibly a silly question here: Is there any way (that's not labour intensive!) that someone in the know could determine if the cambelt looks newish through visual inspection? Read more

.....please excuse what is possibly a silly question here: Is there any way (that's not labour intensive!) that someone in the know could determine if the cambelt looks newish through visual inspection?

No question is 'silly', unless it's asked repeatedly without learning the answer. Far more silly is not asking about what you don't know....

Just for the heck of it...

I wonder why the manufacturers don't have something similar built into cars for colder climes ?

recombu.com/cars/article/pre-heat-your-car-in-wint...e
Are the newer cars still chilly first thing on a cold day?

I've, as you'd expect have botched my own.

This is just a quick test...

Must admit it makes a huge difference, the car is goes from 0C to 25C, in 20 mins
and stays toastie until the car's own air heater warms up to take over...abouyt 10 mins

I may put an outside mains supply, on the wall IP66
and use a caravan type electric socket fitted into the car's bumper ...just to confuse the neighbours into thinking I have a hybrid peugeot 1.1 1997 model :)

I used to strap an old permanently on toaster (narrow long type) with a roof tile instead of a slice of bread to the front of the driver's seat, fed the cable from a timeclock in the garage via the boot. Nice warm interior and steering wheel, ice melted on most of the windscreen. A mini storage heater!

This I like, though I could see an ElfnS issue with hot tiles popping up between the drivers legs....

I agree FB. I cannot see any logic in not securing vital supplies within our own country. Even if it cost a few percent more, the effect on the econmy would be very good. Extra jobs all round and a stable supply line. Just like food and other supplies I am sure with some joined up thinking and some affort we could be as self sufficient as possible with lots of positive benefits. Hold on, isn't that what govenments are for???? I rest my case too.

Cheers Concrete...

Not so long ago we changed our 3 Series (our third) to a Petrol A3 Saloon (2016). We are utterly thrilled with the change except.... in cold weather. The front windsceen tends to mist up on the inside about 1-2 minutes after pulling away. The first time it happened was really quite dangerous as it was unexpected and we were on a main road.

Our regime is as follows.... Read more

I've had a similar problem on my Octavia. What prevented it on that was selecting front windows de-mist even if it wasn't apparently needed, and opening the front side windows about an inch.

I think what happens is that the 'climatronic' is configured to heat the car from the footwell up, unless you tell it the windscreen needs de-mist.

Hi all,

I had the airbag light illuminated on the dash, i took my vehicle (2013 44k miles) to be repaired at the local VW garage, after investigating the fault I was informed the clock spring had failed. To cut a long story short my local garage charged me £581 for the repair. I contacted VW customer care department with regards to this common failure. This part is recalled in USA for this particular model and age, VW customer care department was unable to answer any questions on this matter and reiterated I would have to pay the quoted price in full.... Hi

Ive spent most of the afternoon investigating the issue of faulty clock spring. ...

Feersum Endjinn

Good day all, hoping some of you ford guys may be familier with this fault.

2008 model year Ford Kuga diesel 4X4 shudders under acceleration, most prominent at 54mph, fault clears when you back off the throttle so no issues with wheels and tyres. a visual exam of driveshafts and propshaft reveal no obvious issues. The shudder is not through the steering but through the floor. subjectivley id say more from the front than the rear. I cant feel any abnormal play in the prop or driveshafts. so before i start the expensive route of diagnosis by component substitution i thought id chuck the problem out to you guys.... Read more

Hi there. Appreciate this was a while ago now, but did you manage to find and resolve the fault at all? I'm having the exact same issues with mine and really stuggling to get it diagnosed! Thank you

2 things 1. In EH defence, they do say clearly the conditional price and the guaranteed WBAC better price is based on a conditional like for like offer. Do you really expect a business to offer you more when the conditional price is based on a car in retail condition on both the WBAC and EH websites? If your car has issues then the price should rightly be altered to reflect them. 2. BCA prices do reflect the latest market trends far more than others. They have the information to hand. It’s the £49 admin fee then the extra fee again to have your money in less than 5 working days. Those charges stink as much as the motorpoint, car giant and the car people’s £99 admin fee. They should be forced to include these charges in their quotation price.

1.EH refused to match my WBAC price, adjusted by the charges, after both had inspected the car - their promise is worthless

Seller beware - get firm prices from both and make your own mind up.
