Hi, can anyone recommend a small/mid size automatic for a budget of £5K? Will be mainly for city driving and the odd longer journey. Read more

Going against the grain here, but as the owner of a B Max with Powershift, mentioned above as one to avoid, I've spent quite a lot of time in the 3 months we've had it driving courtesy and loan cars whilst waiting for the gearbox/ clutch to be fixed.

However, having had a new clutch fitted just a week ago the car feels fine, changes smoothly and as SLO has often said, the Zetec engine is a great unit....

Hi Guys,
My key card has stopped working and I was wandering if you know anyone decent apart from the dealer that can provide a replacement key card? I'm in South Wales, close to Newport and I have a Megane 04 plate.
Thanks for your help Read more

On ebay you can only get unprogrammed key cards :(

Of course you can only get unprogrammed cards on ebay - the cards have to be individually coded to the ECU in YOUR car, and that can only be done whilst physically next to the car....

I have noticed that my brand new toledo may have an alignment issue.

It's not so much a pull but when the steering wheel is held bang on in the centre on a flat road or one without to big a camber, it will gradually start to drive to the right(drivers side).... Read more

Yeah i'm learning this the hard way, i couldnt believe when i saw the 160 miles on the dash but i guess it's cheaper for THEM to drive it up than deliver it on truck for one car... i will pop by a SEAT dealership and get an alignment check hopefull they are using the hunter system and not that super tracker one... cause i've never had a good alignment done on one of those.

My 2004 fiesta tdci fails to start after a heavy stop start traffic drive. Engine will not even crank over. Lights on dash come on but nothing happens. If i hold the key in start position for a few seconds or minutes (its random) it may sometimes start when it wants. Some days it wont start for hours, other times it will restart straight away.

Any ideas as its driving me crazy :-/ Read more

Probably the starter, seems a common problem on this family of 1.4 / 1.6 PSA/Ford units. My 1.6 307 is doing the same thing - you may well hear a clunk as you turn the key and the starter is pushed out, but then fails to turn. Usually get mine going after 2-5 tries on the key. New starters are not that dear, but they are a complete PITA to change, as it is on the back of the engine and one of the bolts is practically inaccessible. I've had 2 goes at mine and failed to get the bolt out so far.... have a different tool now which will hopefully allow me to get on it!!

Can anyone help please? The engine symbol keeps lighting up. The codes it tells us are p0171 and p0130-02. Not sure how to rectify. Any advice much appreciated Read more

From the looks at the P codes it's running to weak a fuel mixture.

I'd smoke test the induction system.

Looking at the Alfa Guilia Veloce (280 BHP), a BMW 440i Gran Coupe or the Jag XE (300 BHP). All 3 are petrol automatics.

I've negotiated (to a point) deals on all 3 cars. The cheapest is the Alfa (£32k), next is the Jag (£33k) and then BMW (£37k).... Read more

"You also alienate the selling dealer as they lose their commision"

So, theoretically, is it best to use a broker and obtain their discounts - I understand that you can still take advantage of the PCPs, 'dealer contributions' etc. - then cancel within the 14 days and pay off with a cheaper bank loan knowing that in any case you'd be using a local dealer for servicing and warranty work?...

Are the others who are concerned about the above ? Motor bikers weave through traffic often at high speed. This makes them very hard to see in rear view mirrors, so when are driver carries out a manoeuvre, such as lane changing, the biker, being erstwhile invisible, quickly looms into view and then angrily disputes the driver's action. This frequently manifests itself by the biker striking the car by punching or kicking. It seems to me that the frequency of cameras worn by bikers gives them carte blanche to threaten or attack motorists, secure in the misplaced knowledge that " I've got you on camera " ! Worse yet is when bikers, in groups, then surround the motorist in a very threatening manner ; this is truly terrifying. Read more
