Yet another new model launched that costs a lot more than everyone was expecting.

Almost 17 grand for a super-mini class car on raised suspension with 95bhp doesn't strike me as good value for money......but nowhere near as extortionate as the new VW Polo starting from 14 grand with a weedy 64bhp engine!

I love it when 64bhp is decribed as "weedy", I'm old enough to remember when you thought you were doing well to have 40bhp in a car that size!

A series of recent model launches from the VW stable featuring ridiculously high prices for their products has totally turned me off all their brands.

I thought Skoda was supposed to signify value for money......obviously not any more with these premium prices. Read more

I frequent, (or perhaps haunt) another forum concerned with the model that I currently own. Its useful for finding out stuff like how to replace bulbs and to have a moan about automatic gearboxes.

There's a post on there from someone who took their car to a Ford dealer in a very large Southern city for gearbox work.... Read more

Any business is onty as good as the human beings who run it and work for it, no matter how many customer services policies and guidelines they may have.

In my experience there is a far better chance of good service - not just in the case of garages/dealers - from a family-owned business than from a a large chain. As an example for all the 20 years that I had Renaults, they were looked after by Cross Roads Garage in Oxfordshire, run by the Cliff family who inspired loyalty to the extent at for all those years the same key managers were there.

Nasty! For their sake, they'd better hope that no major issues are found, as any large scale recall for parts replacements (including engines or load-bearing structures/saftey components) would cost a fortune and could easily result in huge lawsuits in Kobe Steel's direction, possibly bankrupting them.

Normally I rate the Japanese (and Koreans generally) highly in terms of engineering quality for products, which is why I buy my cars from them, but occasionally this 'losing face' thing rears its head again - really a 'code of silence' when a firm or person/people are given a contract or task to do that they cannot fullfill in term or on budget, so in some circumstances they cut corners, lie/keep quiet, then do all that 'profuse bowing' in abject apology once they are caught....

Hiya! I am hoping someone can help me.

I purchased a 1 year old cascada, petrol, 1.4 with 5,000 miles on the clock. (currently just under 19,000) Yes I am a woman, but yes I can drive lol (used to be external sales so used to do anything upto 200 miles a day). In that time, I used to drive company cars which were vauxhall Astras, no I wasnt over careful with them but anywho... Read more

GB has pointed out why clutches don't seem to last as long as they used to.

My local indy recently had his Shogun written off (13 year old 4x4) so bought a 1.4 turbodiesel Fiesta as a short term replacement. He tells me he stalls the thing quite often, below 3000 revs its gutless, takes some getting used to after his big engined Shogun. ...

So, This is my second time posting here!

This one is a bit more serious than the last. Last week I had a Lorry turn right across me into a junction. All caught on Dashcam, lorry driver admitted fault. Worked out I had 4 seconds to react and stop. His tail bar - big silver bar thing on the back, speared my car. Went up in flames ect. Was doing 50mph, it was wet on the road, tried to stop, couldn't. Long story short, I contacted his insurance company who have given me a courtesy vehicle. Missed out on a job interview that was the next day :( but since had a job offer from a interview I went too before only a £7,000 per year pay drop from the one I missed out on. Devestated.

Anyway, my car was a 53 plate corsa. Only had it two years. In that time the ECU had to be replaced, head gasket, timing chain and water pump. Got it for £2,000 ended up putting over 2k into it in repairs. Yes, I know but I loved my car!!

Currently waiting for the Lorry's company insurance to deem it a total loss. Which I already know it is. Looking on auto trader the value is £800 private sale - £1,500 forecourt value. I know they're gonna offer me peanuts for it, however I have the courtesy car until a offer has been agreed. - I made sure that was very clear.

So my question is, does any of the repairs I've had done count? If I buy another one of my year and mileage I'm gonna have the same problems I've had with mine and my body work was immaculate before this! What are my options with accepting/declining offers. Can I counter offer? I'm going direct through his insurance so mine aren't involved - I obviously let them know though.

Any advice would be appreciated! Read more

Yeah I appreciate the point that was made.. Just maybe not the way it was put across.. Kind of like I didn't force the lorry to make the turn and cause a whole bunch of problems for me!

This is my first 'big' accident, only other being a road rager reversing into me at low speed. Im just thankful I walked away. My kids weren't in the car and despite some muscle pain, I'm fine!

So it looks like I need to do my homework then. Quick look on auto trader, its coming up with 2/300 rust buckets and not my Sleek Clean SXI that I'm used too - Big old sad face. I really didn't ask for this, but upgraded to a 2016 Captur in the mean time, so can't be too sad!

Obviously I don't wanna accept a low offer, but I wasn't sure how much wiggle room id have before they told me to get lost! That and I'm not one for taking the mick. Just feel like I'm the one who's lost out and it wasn't my fault!

We bought a reconditioned gearbox from a company, the mehcanic put it in and says its not working. There is a warranty of 3 months so I am sure we will get a new one or refund but meantime are we liable for the garage mechanic labour costs which is £250 as he is goung to want another £250 to fit a second one. Is the seller of spare part liable? We are stuck in the middle? Read more
