Hi everyone, this is my first post and it's on behalf of my niece.
I would be very grateful do for any advice you can offer on the following: niece has a 2001 MINI Hatch 1.6 First 3dr with a few issues- she has an oil leak and has recently discovered oil in her spark plugs housing; her engine warning light goes off and on and the fan kicks in strongly when she switches it off. ... Hi everyone I need a help? I am put a towel heated rail which is current rate of 60watts with 5amps special fuse switchbox, my house cable from the switch socket is 1.5mm 6242Y BS6004 2012 UP TO 300-500 VOLTS I want to connect to the heating 2.5 meter long from switch socket. Is this the correct cable?
Thank you. Read more
60 watt seems pretty low for a heater, which is 0 .006Kw. 600 watt is 0 .6Kw which is not much, but more realistic and should pull approximately 3 amps from your supply. 1.5mm cable is rated for use at 5amps so the cable is sufficient up to 5 amps. However 1.5mm cable is not used for power circuits, generally only lighting circuits. Power circuits sre 2.5mm which is rated for use to 13 amps. You can spur off 2.5mm power circuits then fuse down to 5 amp protection and then use 1.5mm cable to your heater. Probably the cable entry into the heater will be round heat resistant cable which will need to be properly terminated in a socket box with a double pole isolator switch. All in all I would be employing an electrician if I were you. Electricity is not to meddled with and can be lethal if incorrectly installed. Also when you come to sell your house you may need to prove the heater was correctly installed by a qualified person.

Looking to buy another van early next year, and rather than buy an expensive mistake again, I want to limit my chances of buying something with faults. I wonder whether its best to buy cheap and then fix any faults, or buy just off lease - about £12,000 + vat for a 3 year old Transit/Sprinter with a luton box. Who is best to buy from? Was thinking Van monster, they have mostly 3 year old vans with roughly 100,000 on the clock. Read more
Soz, I was replying to another post. I'm not sure about the reliability of brands other than Ford/Iveco/Mercedes/VW. They could be fine, but I guess there's a reason there a fair bit cheaper. I know Fiat and Iveco are made by same company. But there's more to vans than just engines.
Hey all, first things first, I'm not sure how to put a new comment as I'm a newbie!!, but I have a similar problem, sometimes my car cuts out under high load, 50-80mph, turn ignition off and back on and it's fine, if it happens enough then I get a light on which I've diagnosed and it comes back as "Overboost", the car apparently had 2 intercooler hoses replaced with new clips too, it had a 180 map on it which was horrible and causing a overboost fault, it's been carbon cleaned and turbo flushed 3 times as the vanes were jamming open, then it had a 160 map put on it.. I'm aware that these cars can take up to 220bhp before serious modifications are required. I've been to a few people who haven't even looked and said turbo is b*****ed and went to a garage and said the same, have had other people give there opinion and said it's everything from N75 valve, diaphragm on the turbo actuator, the actuator itself, but I'm still driving around in it....no black smoke, powers there... it hasn't cut out in about a week or 2... I have tried loads from putting 2 stroke in with the fuel, to engine flushes, the lot... I don't want to throw any more time at it as it's so frustrating, I've heard it can perminantly damage the engine, I noticed a leak on the intercooler hose where it meets the intercooler, its noticeable when I'm driving the boost noise, I've left it in hopes that it lets enough out so it counteracts the overboost and stops engine failure, just hit 100k and done 800 mile runs where it hasn't happened, but under load increases the risk of it coming back, I don't know what to do anymore, I'm worried that the turbo will s*** the bed, we have just had a newborn and we rely on our car, we are worried that the turbo could die any day... anyone able to help??.. thanks

I've had this problem ( overboost ) on a previous Passat, caused by sticking vanes in the turbo.
Innotec wasn't around then, but if Railroad has had success with it I guess it must work....
My wife and I are in our 60s and find the Spider extremely comfortable but neither of us are over 5'8". As for driving its a dream. In terms of handing and poise I love the fact on any twisting road or roundabout it leaves front wheel hot hatches trailing in its wake as you watch young enthusiastic boy racers wander all over the road as they disappear in my rear view mirror. The car isn't ridiculous...the tester's bias's are. If you are the "right" size....don't want to carry furniture/two weeks shopping etc and just want some great driving...this is the tool (or rather the Abarth version is...) Be happy in your samey hot hatch - whatever the marque - they all look similar, right?...I'm VERY happy with my choice....
As for you my geordie friend...you come up (occasionally) with some good stuff - just be conscious that people have different tastes and are different sizes..... That the Mazda MX5 is the most successful (in sales) small sports car of all time - (and this car's characteristics are very similar) - says a little something - don't you think?...
"Whatever happened to...?"
So many brilliant automotive ideas have come and gone over the years, but one that stands out for me was the joystick provided to buyers of GL and Ghia badged Mark 1 Ford Orions to "aim" the full-on stereo sound to a chosen point in the car's interior. Never seen it since then, although I do remember having partially shattered eardrums from dodgy amplifier set-ups in friends' cars, usually with a graphic equaliser as part of the package. Thank you SO much, Argos and Tandy, for making that all so affordable to so many people 30 odd years ago!
So what ever became of...
CB radios? Clip-on louvres on the rear windows (mostly on Ford Capris)? Electric aerials? Beaded seat covers? Air horns that played Dixie? Green "Wayne and Mandy" sun strips on the top of the screen? The venerable Krooklok?
And what else do we miss from the 80s? :-)

90s rather than 80s, but one oddity that I'm really glad never caught on was on the Peugeot 406 which had a fold-out keypad in the dash on which you had to enter a PIN code before you could start the engine.

The Insurance Act 2015 is relevant to non-consumer contracts, as is the phrase "fair presentation".
Assuming the OP is a consumer (in the absence of information to the contrary) then the relevant legislation is contained in "Consumer Insurance Act 2012" which came into force on 6th April 2013. ...
I'm looking for a used car.I prefer smaller alloys fitted with tyres with larger side profile. Ride feels smoother and greatly reduces kerb scruffs.
Wonder downsizing a dealer approved used car's alloys from 19" to 17"(by dealer itself) would be considered a "modification" with regards to car insurance.... Read more
That's using the VIN to link to a BMW database which holds the data - that sort of facility isn't available on other brands although their dealers have that sort of access.
Yet you previously stated that 'The VIN doesn't give build options'....

On one end, you have franchised dealers.... Read more
The large dealer I used to work for sends nothing to auction that runs, they've a separate trade dealership that sells anything from £295 to £4,000. This is where I cut my teeth on selling motors and developed my love of bangernomics. I always loved the freedom that comes from buying a good cheap motor instead of saddling yourself with a never ending lease or finance deal.Hardly ever see that in the South East. Most main dealers scowl if a customer parks a 12 year old car on their forecourt having come to buy a new one let alone retail it. I honestly don't know of a single main dealer which would touch such a car.
Some do have their own used car outfits but even then I'm not sure they'd go as old as 12 years. A lot have also tried it,, found out just how cut throat that sector is and quickly given up....
Seriously, Nissan? The car looks much better on the outside, and the tech sounds better - but you've fitted the interior from a 1990s van! It looks bland and utterly terrible, eugh! Read more
Average product.Millage of charge better, battery more powerful, but appearance of vehicle and the design itself looks like something from futuristic movie cars. I don't really like it
Thermostat housings seem to be a weak spot on R56 models. In Jan 2014 had a new short engine in a Cooper S which included a new water pump and thermostat housing - all warranty work by Mini/BMW. Roll forward just 9 months and thermostat is leaking and part is on back order with no known date for a fix.
Worth checking that part in readily available if it's an OEM part that's wanted.
