I found this quite interesting and hoping some of you will too:

Different economic criteria and considerations apply, I suppose, if like me you are driving a pre 2009 diesel? Read more
After swearing off diesels for the last 10 years, I bought a new Dacia Duster 10 months ago. I think the technology has been out long enough for any half-way intelligent mechanic to have gained an understanding of how it works by now.
A taxi driver neighbour runs two Dacia Logans with both himself driving as well as him hiring the cars out to others. Used for pretty much all town-work, one is on 180k miles with no DPF problems, and the other is on 135k with no problems.
My Polish friend tells me that he can't understand the fuss around DPFs in this country. Plenty of Poles in the UK with basic mechanical skills actively look for cars with DPF issues either to buy and export back to Poland for repair & resale, or to buy and repair for their own use here. He says 99% of the time they take off the EGR valve and give it a quick clean in a parts cleaner, then remove the DPF, tape a plastic bag over the outlet end, stand it up, fill it with DPF cleaner (or oven cleaner or even toilet cleaner) and leave it overnight, empty it in the morning, give it a gentle jet-washing from the outlet to the inlet side, and re-fit. Cheap straightforward maintenance and will keep the engine running sweetly for another 120k+ miles. The only minor difficulty is that sometimes the DPF can be hard to remove, but the application of penetrating oil or heat usually helps it come off without damaging it.

400,000 out of ‘over one million’
If the UK bought that many Mercedes cars (and the list of vehicles effected is not the entire range so we bought more than 400,000) then you’d expect the Germans to be pretty keen to cut the UK a darn good deal post Brexit, or risk loosing all that business, how about it Merkel?
I can’t find any UK specific sales figures and wonder if they are being hidden deliberately..... Read more
Hi all,
Really hope someone can help me, I've just had a real shock getting me and my 2 kids home today! Got about half a mile from home, when suddenly my Swift refuses to pull away at a green light! I can start the engine, I can put it in gear, get a bite, but as soon as I rev the engine, it cuts out.... Read more
Very unusual for these to suffer any issues, especially at this age. I was also wondering if you had tried to pull away in the wrong gear? Happens to all of us especially early in driving career...
A work collegue is selling some of hos cars and is offering a couple of MGFs, one a T reg manual and the other a 02 tiptronic.
How expensive are they to keep?... Read more
Many thanks for all your replies and views.
I am reluctant to spend to much on a car I will rarely use. Not really a fan of the MX5, I find the MG far nicer and completable....
Probably a subject that's come up before but can anyone tell me what the likely outcome is please. Someone has just driven into my drivers door causing damage to their drivers side front corner. It's a roundabout I'm not used to and the signs said middle lane for straight on. I stopped and exchanged details but she wanted to argue. I've since been to the area again and now see I was in the wrong lane as I didn't count an earlier exit. I had indicated at the time I felt I might be in the wrong and in my mirror did not see the other car and on looking round. In hindsight I was in the wrong lane. Am I likely to be charged with careless etc and if so what might I face. Losing my license would be a disaster. Read more
Thanks again. I'll update for information purposes.
Recently bought a 2011 Focus. It had an issue where it would nearly stall at idle, this brought up a P2135 code and the dealer replaced the throttle pedal which fixed the issue.

The engine light hasnt come on, just the information light, and intermittenly so. Diagnostics were run after pedal was installed, checked for updates and issues etc with no luck. Back into the shop ob friday to see if they can find the fault.

Probably like many of the oldies on here, I wanted to stick with UK-built transport. I had a succession of Maxis until 1983, but decided a Maestro was a lousy replacement and had a Cavalier for a few years. Once the kids stopped needing transport to and from uni, I downsized to a 205 and have had one ever since - tho not as a first car these days. I've seen no reason to switch back....
Now if only they could ban long vans in all residential areas or 500% surcharge.
That would stop them here in our street....
Very interesting - many thanks for sharing it with us.
