hi all,
i have a mk5 golf 2.0l tdi bkd engine and when im driving down the motoway around 3000 rpm if i let the revs drop it cuts out and i cant start it again but it will start with easy start, i also have no faults codes. i changed both tandem and lift pump, fuel filter, and partially blanked the egr valve ae that was giving me a judder around 1500rpm ( dont know if they are related to the cutting out) , any advice would be appreciative Read more
I have recently been thinking about buying a battery jump starter. I do not want one with an internal battery.
Whilst I will probably never need to use it on my own cars I do not doubt the opportunity to use it on colleagues cars will arise. I do not expect any of my colleagues would carry their cars hand books with them and I would have reservations about jump starting say for example a year old Toyota Land Cruiser in which case we are probably back to square one and waiting for the breakdown services.... I went to look at the New Suzuki Swift with the option of purchasing one. I test drove the 1.0 Boosterjet SZ5 which had all the bells and whisltes and was a nice little thing to drive. Reading up on the SHVS system i'm a little concerned that i cannot find anywhere if the SHVS system has got a extended warranty. I remember Smart having problems with there MHD system in there Fortwo's. Suzuki standard warranty is for 3 years.
I'd be part exchanging a Toyota Auris Hybrid which is a good car but not really a drivers car. i'm starting to get bored with it and there would be a considerable insurance saving.... Read more
Suzuki is a brilliant engineering company - their stuff is good (personal experience from the inside).

Went to Wales recently for a few days, took a relative who is recovering from an illness and has mobility issues.
One day parked my car in what I though was a disabled parking area and went for a meal, on my return there was a ticket as I apparently parked in a restricted loading area. There was no marked loading restrictions signs and when I returned noted there were disabled bays marked out by a slightly lighter grey road surface. No yellow lines.... Read more
I seem to recall a parking issue in Bedale, N. Yorkshire a few years back. A chap parked up in what he thought was a designated space. Got a ticket, appealed, rejected but refused to give up. The reason he gave was the signs and markings were not clear or informative of the type of zone or restrictions applied to the area. He photographed and measured each sign and their location. He discovered that not one of the signs complied to the RTA specification for signage and markings. Went to court and won the case. NYC had to replace and resite the signage in the whole area. I also believe they repaid several dozen fines when previous 'offenders' appealed. Worth checking if you have the time and inclination.

Hi,
I’m in a bit of worry with regarding my recent car insurance policy I have taken out. I looked for quotes on my car insurance and had two quotes from the same company, so I then rang up about them.
The first one was a bit more expensive than the other and had all the correct details, but I then asked them to check the 2nd and it was cheaper as it was a quote I searched for prior. I then went ahead with the 2nd policy and they went through all the questions they asked and they told me they matched up with the previous quote, all being correct.
But, now this is where I’m worried, they said all the details were correct and matched up to quote 1. I also stated that I am going to be off my “R” plates (Northern Ireland) the day I would like the quote to start which would mean it was a year before, on that day I obtained my full licence. But when I went through with the whole insurance and got my certificate in my post it said I obtained my license 6 months before I actually did. I never intended in this and never tryed to lie to my insurance. I told them I’m good faith about how long I passed my test and that my “R’s” are coming down, which like I said would be the day I take out my policy. But now I’m worried incase they void my policy.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance. Read more
Cancel your policy. Pay the cancellation fee, won't be much and insure yourself elsewhere for a year making sure you give the correct details this time,

She wants something slightly bigger since with our dog occupying the bag seat the Micra boot is pretty small.... Read more
And, indeed, more good points worth rasing and considering.
BUT (there's always a BUT isn't there?) ... I recall as plain as daylight, when I was at work, attending, a few, what in those days were called, RTAs, involving Austin/Rover Metros. And swore I would never let myself, or my wife, travel in one. You can still see videos online of one being tested at NCAP. In those days there were others almost as bad but equally there were some which could be seen to hold up far better. In times past there wasn't anything like the attention paid to these things and we all must have had little cheapies to run around in without worrying ourselves too much. My Triumph Herald or Austin 1100s might have been pretty grim without realising it at the time, but nobody gave it much thought then. And let's not even think about my 1953 Morris Minor or the subsequent Ford 100Es (all without seat belts)....
OK, just a proposal for now. But, how long before they decide that we become "stressed" at 60, and decide that they have to change it again? ... Read more
I would really love it if traffic on motorways was "pre-loaded" so that only a certain number of vehicles could use the lanes at any particular time....
Years ago in car storage compounds we found that after a jump start car and leaving it to tickover to put a bit of charge in the battery you could leave it ticking over all day and it wouldn't put an ounce of charge in, presumably little to no drain no reason to charge, most noticeable on Fords.
You had to give it something to work on, hence once started put the sidelights or heater fan on to give the system something to work at, in practice at most compounds they standardized on leaving the hazard lights on, this way if the car was due to be moved again, ie loaded onto a transporter the driver would be pre warned the vehicle was likely to be a non starter at destination so should be able to put it somewhere on the transporter suitable for jump or bump start, a non starter on the over the cab peak deck is not exactly handy, and if it was only being moved in the compound then someone would notice especially when it got dark and not leaving it ticking over for hours/days....
