There's far more oil than they let on - "peak oil" is a myth to keep prices up - certainly several centuries worth of oil left, which will out-last western civilization which is busily committing suicide, so there will still be plenty of oil left in the ground when what's left of mankind are dying of disease and starvation after overwhelming and destroying the culture that currently heals and feeds them.

My dad's Getz suddenly decided to have the Rev counter needle not moving including the fuel gauge which is stuck on the lowest point (it is a quarter full) I drove the car to see if the speedometer was working at it isn't. The electronic trip display isn't showing anything either. The battery is fine as all the lights are working. Car starts and runs fine just this issue. Read elsewhere might need to replace the instrument panel? Any pointers on how I can properly diagnose it & what the solution might be, thanks. Read more

Usually sceptical about any modern electrical item. However, I try to be open minded. Has anyone got one of these ? Is it just any unnecessary extra to indicate false alerts ? Does it have any value ? Read more

Thanks Paul. My car system usually does that. Any other people found it worthwhile. They don't seem to be advertising it much now. Not seen anything since I posted !

SWMBO has been the main driver of our Pug 207SW for 9 years now, but is starting to suffer from shoulder pain with gear changing - in fact she is planning an operation soon. Any advice please for an auto city-car for doing 5-6000 miles/year? I'm thinking to try a pre-2014 Hyundai i10 or Picanto for her to get the feel of the thing, and although there aren't loads to choose from, most have reasonable mileages and service history. As you probably know, the i10 and picanto are essentialy the same car under the skin, with the same 1.2 engine mated to a torque converter auto, so it would really be down to personal preference. Good reliable little cars, but being a tc auto, they are going to be thirstier than you would probably expect.

There are other 'city cars' which are automatic, but will almost certainly be either a single or dual clutch automated manual which are generally best avoided. Having said that, someone was on here a month or two back raving about his suzuki celerio ags (which is a single clutch automated manual). The youngest celerio 'auto' on autotrader are 2015 and coming in at about £7k and would be considerably more economical than the kia or hyundai....

The time has come for me to get 3 dashcams for my cars with all the idiotic drivers out there! I've seen HJ's dashcam reviews but wanted to draw on BR's wisdom and experience on which dashcam I should go for?

My budget is £100-£120, which should get me a decent mid-range dashcam. On the HJ dashcams review, there were many comments on the poor reliability of Nextbase cams and without reading this would probably have gone for one. ... Read more

Thanks for your advice FiestaOwner, especially on getting a Dashcam with super capacitors. I'll report back once I've shortlisted!

The B Max is the first car I've bought which has a digital temperature readout rather than an analogue with gauge and needle.

At first it seemed a bit odd, because after start up from cold I'd be inclined to periodically check my Focus gauge till it reached normal temperature; whereas this one builds up in illuminated blocks on a line; a set up which I find far less engaging than a needle that actually points to stuff....

@ DF, film the issues with your infotainment system on your mobile when they happen. helps the dealer use them to show Skoda, and hopefully get a resolution for you before the warranty runs out.

might just be as simple as needing a software/firmware update. Read more

Re the Infotainment issue you can often reboot the system by holding the on/off power button down for 10 seconds or until the system restarts. Just like a computer which they are at the end of the day.

I wonder if the difference in the 'reliabilty score' on the recent car mag 'survey' between the almost identical C1, 108 & Aygo, and similarly for the Mi, Citigo and Up is down to owners of certain makes of vehicle more likely picking an auto/automated manual, than a manual with a clutch pedal?
