The DVSA - that's the name of the recently merged VOSA and DSA, have just appointed their new head of enforcement.

Not the usual career-cruising civil servant this time.

18 years army service and in the Military police.

Tours of duty in Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Her comment on being appointed? "I can't wait to get stuck in"

Oh well - I thought it was interesting.

Its difficult to comment without sounding sour.

Much like our usual transport ministers, well any sort of ministers, it appears the new DVSA gaffer knows nothing about transport of any form, the perfect candidate then, boxes ticked.

She's not the new "gaffer" she is the new head of enforcement for the DVSA - ie MOT fraud, driving test fraudulent impersonations, etc - she probably does know a fair bit about transport from her army years.

Many thanks for posting this, Focussed.

Experience in the armed services is often invaluable, as a successful career there can ensure that a person has both people skills and organisational skills, in a lot of varied roles. All too often people in big positions have one or the other but not both.

Good luck to her.

My interest is from when I was a UK instructor - one of the past CEO's of the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) cruised into the post from being a regional director of Jobcentre plus !
