Hi all. Looking at getting a cheap run around that hopefully will last. Got my eye on a 2004 Nissan Primera with 95k on the clock. Anyone have experience with these? Only £1000. Tips to look out for and are they any good? Seem to get more for your money at this price with the Japanese cars. Otherwise I’m looking at Ford Focus but for almost double don’t know if it’s worrh it. Cheers in advance. Read more

Working in a 'used and nearly new executive car specialist' (their words, not mine!) circa 1996, 2 identical pale metallic blue toyota camry estates turned up as trade ins. Top of the range 3l V6 petrol automatics with electric evrything. I remember being very impressed by them, and being particularly tickled by the dual rear wipers!. The only other car i'd ever seen that on was my maths teachers 1985(ish) nissan 300C estate.
Hi
I’m looking for a 2002-2005 7 seater diesel (below £1000) that’s got good mpg, cheapest on tax and insurance and most reliable
I’ve been looking at Ford galaxy, VW Sharan and Seat Alhambra

Might be a bit late to the party, but as we know the general rule is to buy on condition at that price so my leftfield choice would be a Hyundai Trajet.
Yes they do a diesel (the Trajet D!), yes they have seven seats and they were pretty much bullet proof. Older simpler tech with few toys is order fo the day here. Stepfather had two on the bounce after a succession of failed Espaces and has been a Hyundai fanboi ever since....

If it's a manual 2wd you can expect around 35-37mpg day to day. It's a very robust engine and unlikely to ever give any grief. But with a new model around the corner you must be careful not to pay too much as depreciation will accelerate rapidly as the new car comes to market and dates the current model.
Also as with all large SUV's diesels are in greater demand and the torquey nature of these engines suits them better. The 2.0 petrol lacks midrange pull and is around 20mpg worse off than the equivalent 1.6 diesel which is also much quicker on the road than the petrol. This is the pick of the range and is one of the few modern diesels I'll recommend to anyone - I have one myself. If however you do a very limited annual mileage and most of it is local running petrol will be the only option. Just don't pay too much!

It is a stunning colour, but when I saw it in the showroom the plastic parts were a noticeably different shade to the metalwork.
Not a problem that's unique to Mazda, but it did spoil the look....

I purchased a Triple Platinum Supercar day £326.
Was told some weeks later that it wasn't available.
Dan Jones, Operations Manager at Trackdays.co.uk failed as a senior manager to make things right and instead threatened me.
Im happy to respond to any comments on here and post emails of our correspondence.
I tried to contact James Richardson, CEO for escalation but no response.

I bought a new metallic blue Polo 1.4 tdi pd in 2002 It now has mileage of only 19,200 it has spent the vast amount of its life in a garage because over the last 12 years it has only been used once every 10/14 days, mostly a round trip to the supermarket of about 12 miles plus a few trips elseware.
It really is in an imaculate condition not even a scuff mark inside or out, the only repair work done on it has been 2 close MOT failures for broken front coil suspension springs (possibly a bad batch).
Since the third year dealer service I have changed the oil and filters every year myself even though the the years mileage have been as low as 600/900. As I have done the oil changes myself I have no service record to show but I do have the oil and filter bills for each year. In effect the 12 years I have service it myself it has done about 10,000 miles which is equivalent to not much more than one service period. If the car had been serviced by the dealer in this period it woud probably have cost me more than the car is worth now.
The main VW dealer has done 3 cambelt changes the last one (2014) included the water pump and I have the bills for these.
It is in effect a 15 year old car with less wear and tear of a 2 year old car. Nobody has sat in the back seats and only occaionally in the front passenger seat
I know its a 15 year old car but surely its worth a little more than the around £800/1000 that this vintage are fetching.
Anybody like to give me a reasonable price to ask for it.

Hi Alan,
I’m in the market for a small commuter car and this could do me very nicely, if you’re still wanting to sell.
Thanks,
Sunny
Briefly, new lease car December2016. Cold weather so thought air con ok! Summer and father in law says air con warm?Lease comp says go to main dealer. Main dealer said 'there is observable damage on the condenser, caused by a stone.no warranty cover-all costs (£200 re gas, plus new condenser, very very expensive) all over to me!Main dealer actually said 'Did you hit a pheasant or something?' No, I would remember. Went to independent garage and they re-gassed for £175 and said no gas in the system but no damage either? Their conclusion was, little or no gas was ever in there from new.! Complaint to lease comp was finally upheld after three weeks of being bounced back and forth and i got a refund. Now I no longer trust the main dealer as they were so quick to suggest that the issue was down to me. Luckily second opinion was upheld by lease company. Read more
The car has just done 10,000 miles and is due to go for a check according to the dashboard advisory. I spoke to the lease company today and asked to be booked in at the local Skoda main dealer. The lease company said it was no longer on their approved supplier list! I then asked to go to the independent garage which is further way but is on the approved list. No problem they said. What on earth has occured at a main dealer to get it pulled from the lease companies approved list? There must be some significant issues. I will get the air con checked for pressure again though!
For the last 3 or 4 years my spanner light lit up on starting my car. It went off when I had turned the engine off, removed the key, heard a 'click' from fuel pump I think, then started car and spanner light did not reappear.
Annoying but it was not part of yearly MOT so I got used to switching on as above.... Read more
I hate the idea of having to wind the starter over for minutes at a time to draw fuel through after a filter change, is this another poor design (even Merc failed this test on the venerable W124, though the filter could be pre filled) where the maker has saved 50p by not providing a primer pump/bellows to fill the prime the fuel system?
Is the filter a sealed unit that you could pre fill with clean fuel before fitting? where possible i always do so....
I drove one of these cars up to 188k miles, it has many Renault Laguna parts which is a negative factor. Raod tax is not cheap and fuel economy not the best, but it's spacious with a decent boot and generally well specced. Also look at the Nissan Primera Owners Club for more information. Hope you've checked the MOT history online too.
If you have any further questions do post, I'll come back with replies.
