I purchased a 2014 Verso with a 1.8 CVT automatic gearbox a few months back. The fuel economy has been less than I expected especially considering the Real MPG on the site.
A couple of weeks of daily short trips in London got me ~24mpg. Up the M25/M1 with AC on and speed around 80mph I achieved 32mpg; on the return journey at night using cruise control for large parts at 75mph and no AC I got 38mpg.... Read more
I have just watched a video review of the new Ford Fiesta and the reviewer concluded that the Fiesta still leads the class for driver engagement. Fine. But since the old car was already the class leader, why did Ford have to replace a really quite stylish car with (in my view) a rather dull looking one? To me, the new car resembles the soon-to-be-replaced SEAT Ibiza whereas the model it replaced was unique.
My question for you readers out there is this... What cars, in your opinion, have been replaced by inferior or unneeded models?... Read more

I am helping my son (aged 27) buy his first car as he now needs a car for his new job. He has been a regular named driver on my policy. We have decided a Honda Civic fits his requirements, budget £10000. Considering the following two examples, which do you think makes more sense, the newer vehicle with remaining manufacturer warranty seems a good buy at this price from a car supermarket, but it is a basic spec with a 1.4 engine. The same money would buy the following Honda approved vehicle older but with the 1.8 engine. There does not seem to be a lot of difference in the insurance for my son or mpg, he has test driven a 1.4 and thats seems to be ok but the 1.8 seems to be considered to be much better bet. Many thanks for any opinions.

The 1.4 is fine for local running but struggles at higher speeds and for B road overtaking. The 1.8 is an excellent engine with little if any penalty on fuel economy so I'd personally favour the larger engine. Bargain hard though as this example is a bit overpriced and the introduction of the new model has put downward pressure on prices of the last gen cars. Watch out on non-franchised stock like the 1.4 as if it doesn't have a full Honda service record the remainder of the warranty is invalid.
"DITTO" slo right as usual,,,
Hi!
Recently had an error on my car, wich says egt sensor short circuit.... Read more
Resistance was measured on cold engine(not used for 3 days).
EGT sensor starts with resistance 3.5Mohms and slowly climbs up 9, even 11 sometimes. No temperature change was present.
So I've got a new (to me) car and I'm in the 'honeymoon' stage of ownership, so it's going to get a bit of looking after until I get bored of it in a few months.
What polishes and waxes do people use? I've always been an avid user of Autoglym products like their bodywork shampoo conditioner and super resin polish; but I just wondered if there are any better/cheaper alternatives out there?... Read more

Seen this on an MOT fail, but it doesn't make sense to me. Could it be an excuse to charge for pouring snake oil in the tank? Read more
So car failed mot again only on c02 emissions. My readings are above. It failed after new spark plugs and Italian tune up. C02 emissions to high on fast and second idles. Since this I have now identified cylinder 1 misfire. When I disconnect the injector to cyclinder one it has no effect on engine, whereas all the others do. However I have ohms and volt tested the injectors and they seem fine. I also sound tested injectors and were all clicking consistently. The car now runs rough, not before. Could it be the coil pack? Bearing in mind my c02 reading would this make sense? I thought that if the cylinder one was not firing I would have higher hc not c02?
I have a new 02 sensor ready but since this has been replaced last two years there is something more underlying that I would like to resolve first....
Hoping someone can help. I currently have a 1.2 petrol Nissan micra but am spending a fortune on fuel (I do approx. 25000miles a year, mostly town driving and getting 44mpg - about £70 a week in petrol). So I'm looking into buying a diesel hatchback - I want reliability as well as fuel economy.
I've had a bad experience with a ford fiesta tdci (2002 plate) in the past and am scared to get another "common rail" car again. I do really like the Micra's, I would consider a diesel one but they are dci engines which makes me nervous... Or would a Toyota Yaris with D4D engine be better? Any suggestions for an alternative make/model?... Read more
Driving instructor- hence mostly town driving - short journeys lots of start stops
A modern diesel would be a recipe for disaster with that sort of use....
Occasionally the speedo needle drops quickly to zero then returns immediately to its previous position. No power is lost and nothing else happens.
Sometimes a month or more could pass before I notice the needle drops again. Read more
If I don't replace the sensor now. Will the sensor deteriorate further?
Hello all. I am in search of a new used car. I have a wish list and a top budget of 20K if needed. I am torn between Hatchback and Saloon. My wish would be an A5 or A6, or C class.
I was wondering if you kind people in the know could offer advice at what make and model I should be looking at to get all my toys and gadets in one car. The list of wants and wishes are below. I currently drive a Golf Match 2012 Blue Motion - so would like all the stuff that has plus...... Read more
Yes, it's a 7 speed wet one. It does a better job of simulating a TC when manoeuvring than the dry one in our Roomster does too.
So far, so good - but they don't do many miles, living in Cambridge. It's my daughter who uses it for commuting to Duxford way, but she's on a year's eternity leave at the moment. The short trips around Cambridge don't seem to bother it.
Greetings all
One of our better neighbours has ended up with a damaged car and a private settlement, and wants to get shot of the car. Insurance appears not to have been involved, and during a recent conversation the subject of getting rid of it came up. My feeling is that the motor would be declared a write-off, as it has a shredded front corner - wing, light cluster, bumper are all dead, bit of minor damage on the bonnet, it's ten years old and worth about £2k. Certainly repairable I'd have thought. If he sticks it ebay as it is, damaged for spares or repair etc, what are his liabilities? Can he flog it privately and let someone put it back together at their own risk etc, or is there some sort of legal duty to have it checked and declared written off or otherwise? Incidentally, I gave him the 'you're supposed to tell the insurance anyway' speech already! Read more
If the vehicle has been declared SORN the DVLA will accept your word.that it has been scrapped or dismantled for spares.
Yes but then after you have removed parts to sell on you have to take the remainder to an authorised scrappy....
Very sensible to check your brakes, considering the amount of weight they're dealing with - all lorry drivers should follow your example.
