Don't forget that a recent study has found that some new Direct Injection Petrol Cars, actually put out more damaging particulates than pre-DPF diesels!. One fact found from these tests was that an EU6 petrol was actually found to be far more damaging to health than an EU5 Diesel. But I suspect the G'ment won't tell you that now they are on something of a revenue roll. They'll just get around to penalising you for owning one at a later date.

Might push buyers towards electric at that point but only when government has figured out how to charge tax on this source of power. Red electricity?

A competitive package, until the Germans update again which won't be far away.
However, Alfa will always be blighted by one of the poorest dealer networks in the industry, poor ownership experience and very scarce showrooms. Residuals are still a concern. One you might want but common sense says don't buy.

There needs to be regulation and investigation into these hikes in insurance premiums. It's a scandal! Read more

Car Parked in disabled bay in St Helier today, correctly displaying Mrs 72 dudes' blue badge (or so we thought!).

Came back within the time limit to find a parking penalty notice (proper one issued by town council not a private firm).... Read more

Seems like the people in Jersey have a heart. It is nice to know that a reasonable attitude prevails for sympathy when a mistake has clearly been made, but mitigation explains it all away. Just a good job it wasn't Edinburgh or Sheffield where the taliban train the parking wardens and the Gestapo finish off the process!!!!! Well done. Cheers Concrete

Remembering that the good folk of Jersey suffered badly under German occupation during WW2, perhaps the reference to the Gestapo is unfortunate!...

Well, after a considerable amount of searching, we finally found a replacement for my sister-in-law's old Corsa.

A 2011/11 plate Yaris 1.3VVTi, manual gearbox full Toyota SH, 2 owners from new (the young lady who has had it for 3 years has emigrated to the USA for work, so her parents selling the car for her), in white. With 12 months MOT (just done at Toyota dealers, along with a service). Advisories on front brake pads looking thin, also on sidewalls on both rear tyres, which look old enough to be original, amazingly.... Read more

That 1.3 VVTI can really lift its skirts and go after 3K RPM until it hits the rev limiter. It'll do 80 in third!

The big wire spring on the front pads is a right royal PITA to replace, I suggest you take a picture before removing it!

Hang on, when the engine 'went', did a new poly-V belt fix it?

Basically a poly V belt is what used to be called the fan belt, if one of those goes it's hardly a reason to say the car should never have been sold, but unfortunately on modern cars when 'fanbelts' snap they can cause other more expensive damage....

Hi all,

My dad currently owns a 2003 Honda Jazz and he's owned it for around 10 years now.

It's been reliable to a point, but recently all the locks on it have started failing; most recently the ignition lock has jammed. It's done 90,000 miles.

I've suggested to him to repair the ignition lock and get rid of it (one of the door locks is also on its way out too!)

He's not sure what to do though. Does anyone agree with me due to the age of the vehicle it's time to get rid before anything major fails?

Thanks

<< You should choose between what it will cost to fix the car, and what it will cost to swap it for another - hopefully more reliable, but not necessarily.

I'm not sure I am making that comparison; the Jazz's parts prices are extortionate compared to some makes >>...

Hi,

Pre MOT inspection reveals requirement to replace power steering rack, I will be tackling this myself with limited facilities and tooling, rent as required. can anyone tell me if the engine needs to be dropped on the rear subframe mounts to extract and insert rack? I can't find a Haynes manual, suspect another Renault model would be the same running gear, Megane?any other advice welcome. It's an old van and not really viable but has too much sentimental value for the kids not to give it a go, bought a rack, reconditioned bankrupt stock for 80 quid! Many thanks to all, Mike. Never done one but I suspect like other Renaults it's easier to drop the subframe or ease it down to give clearance for rack removal.

Standard Kangoos are listed as a four hour job.
