So I put a hefty deposit on a car that would be the balance of payment plus my part ex. I drove away and the garage would MOT the car and I'd collect it the following week. After an hours driving I stopped at the services and had a change of heart. As the dealership was now closed, I send an apologetic text message.
Dealer was very understanding but said to sleep on it, which I did. Didn't feel any different today, call it foolish but the car just wasn't making my heart race and I shouldn't have been swayed on the day.
Dealer is still asking me what's wrong and why I don't want the car, plus is saying he would have to pay a terminal charge for taking and refunding the payment. It's 5% I believe.
Whilst I understand I've probably royally peed him off, can he demand this from me? I don't want him out of pocket but is it true or just a guilt trip? Read more
Hi guys, so today my car failed its mot on the following:
rear parking brake recording little or no effort nearside (3.7.B.6a)... Read more
Assuming this is the full failure text, then there's nothing about service brake failure, so my guess would be it just needs a new handbrake cable, or the operating lever for the handbrake on the shoes has seized in the on position - had that a long time ago, took the shoe off, hammered a punch into the rivet to free it up, and away we went!
Some opinions useful please. I recently drove into a car park behind another car.The car pulled over to the left and stopped, and I went to go around it to his right when he put his car into reverse and hit me. Not much damage to either car. I am not claiming on insurance as my car is a wreck anyway and likely to be written off. I have not heard from his insurers. I am more concerned that I will get a claim against me I have an eyewitness who was about 5 metres from the accident says he saw the car reverse into me.
I contacted car park owners who say CCTV footage is inconclusive because my car obscures his, but all they can see is it looks as though I have gone into his back.Eg does not show him reversing.... Read more
To be fair when i am in a car park i always reverse into a bay, and always position myself so even the most obtuse individual should be able to see what is happening, i also indicate the direction i am bout to take, however unless the person behind makes it clear they are waiting for me to complete the reverse i tend to cover the gap to prevent one of the many chancers who would nick the space as you back in.
Without being there and seeing how each driver behaved, aggressive pushy or messing about if any apply, then it's difficult to say who might be deemed at fault....
I got my car but the radio requires the code and I was not able to find it, did my best and searched all over this site but I was not lucky.
If you could help me I would be very thankful. Read more
Sorry, but for 'V' serial numbers you need one of the paid services (ebay, or others), or a Ford dealer.
Yesterday I saw a young driver motoring in an 'enthusiastic' style - lots of screetching. It made me wonder about car parts and longevity. Is there an average clutch life ? what are the main causes for it to wear out ?
Are all car parts affected by driving style or only particulat aspects ? Read more
I'm amazed by how many people still hold the vehicle on the clutch at junctions, white van drivers mainly.
Company vans no doubt, if it was their own business it's a surefire way of throwing money down the drain....
Hi, any suggestions as to why a Mazda 2 diesel (54) would turn over but not start when warm? Seems to be getting worse.
Many thanks Read more
If it uses the same HP pump as the PSA engine there could be a pressure regulator on the back, these can cause that problem on the C5.
Doors and tailgate open and close normally. Central locking locks normally but won't unlock, either by key or by internal pushbutton (no remote operation). Sounds like a wiring fault - I haven't looked behind the door card yet. Any suggestions? Read more
Problem sorted after taking off the door card. Just had to play with the twin plugs to the actuator and tighten their sockets up a bit.
A few years ago a road in Basingstoke aquired humps and cushions against most local peoples wishes and a large petition. A couple of weeks ago the humps etc were removed and the road resurfaced beautifully. Guess what, they are now digging holes in it to put humps etc back in at great expense. This road has always had a good safety record without even before the humps, Why do they waste so much money? Basingstoke council must be one of the most anti motorist councils in the country. Perhaps the road came due for relaying, but you can't dig up a humpy road with big machinery or put humps in during the relaying ?
Just reading about the accident Richard Hammond was recently involved, in an electric supercar. It burst into flames rather quickly apparently, the car makers said it's "complicated" with it being electric. This (codswallop) had me asking why in so far as, we have safety in car features eg. auto inflatable air bags, it should be simple to have an auto circuit breaker/cut iff switch. Btw I have an electronic/electrical background before anyone savages me. I do realise the vehicle was probably an early version, maybe they are cutting corners saving costs.
I think we are overlooking the fact that diesel cars are far less likely to catch fire than petrol cars. For me that's good enough reason to stick with diesel QED. No fires, no leaking chemicals,
We're drifting some way from topic, but 'for me' flammability of diesel v. petrol is some way down my priority list. I shall stick with the diesel I have, because I know it uses less fuel than a petrol car would. I do what I can to keep it running cleanly, and so far (9 years) it has cost me zero in unscheduled repairs or maintenance (ignoring the minor collision last Christmas :-) )....
Stating the obvious that people who glibly give out info clearly forget if you read some of the comments. So no, I dont take it as read.
Re the OP, Ive had both a 3 Series E90 convertible and Z4 E89 convertible, both with hard top roofs. Providing you adhere to the guidance and dont put anything in the side areas of the boot thentry and retract the roof, you shouldnt have any problems....
