My seven year old 308SW diesel has about 50000 miles on the clock, is well looked after and in good condition. There is one issue that is starting to worry me. When I change gear, the clutch behaves normally but on the way up, after the gear change, it will sometimes momentarily stick and then pop up by itself. It started doing this a few months back every now and then but now it happens a lot more. There are no strange noises coming from the clutch as far as I can hear. I have tested it and it sometimes - but more rarely - happens in neutral or when the car is in gear but the engine is not on. The bite point is still high up and gear changes smooth. The Peugeot garage seem to think that it is some dirt on the rod that is causing friction and have treated the problem with some goos old WD40, which seems to have helped but not eradicated the problem. I would be calmer but a couple of months back, in some inclement weather in the countryside, the car was pushed to its limits in order to get us out of a very sticky situation. Despite this, neither I, nor the garage seem to think it was sufficient to break a clutch.

My indie is a little reluctant to change the auto fluid in my 130k mile 320.
He claims it could cause more problems than leaving well alone.
But I understand that there is a filter which needs changing too.
Grateful your views Read more
On the Scooby it is a pour down the dipstick tube job, simplicity itself.
Toyota has no dipstick, has two plugs on the bottom of the sump, one drain plug one slightly higher level plug, same as with most autoboxes check the level in P with engine running and in this case gearbox oil at 46/50', there is a trick method where the car tells you by warning lights when the gear oil is the right tempt for level checking....
I had engine management light come on with loss of power whilst driving after approx 150 miles. Breakdown advised no2 injector faulty. My car has been with a garage then diesel specialist for 3 weeks now has had all four injectors replaced, egr valve checked, fuel pump checked, new fuel filter (just in case), pressure valve replaced on rail. It is running but 'lumpy' in idle. No fault codes are showing and car apparently thinks it is running ok. Mechanics cannot tell me what is wrong and seem to say it needs emission reprogramming even though it has run for 3 months and about 1000 miles since the emissions is recall without any issue.
Error light was only engine management and not dpf
Any ideas? I do not want to take a faulty car back which a hefty bill for something not running properly when I do a lot of miles and rely on it. Read more

Hi,
Do all minis come with run flat tyres. I have a mini one 2012 and a couple of years ago when the tyres were changed a mini dealer told me they were run flat tyres. However i went to Kwik fit recently and was told they were not run flat tyres. The tyres are Contipremium contact 2 175/65R15 84 H... Read more
Run-flats weren't standard on any of the Mini Coopers that SWMBO had, nor on the Mini One. The ride was quite hard enough without run-flats to make it worse.
Avant, agree that run flats were not standard on the Mini One but if they were fitted as an option they should still be fitted unless the insurers say its OK to revert back to standard tyres. It also critclal that standards and run flats are not mixed. If run flats are fittes it is a legal requirement for a working TPMS to be fitted, non compliance with this should be an MOT failure....
I am going to buy an estate car for under £3000. My requirements are petrol (drive less than 5000 miles a year) and automatic (dodgy knee).
I dont know what to buy, a 10 year old Mondeo or similar or a 14 year old 5 series or Mercedes.... Read more
I wish I'd never sold my Volvo 940, faultless for 3 years I owned it, massive interior space, very comfortable, still some good ones about.
I need to change the alternator belt on my VW Up. It wasn't done by the dealer at the service as they had no belts in stock. Someone kindly gave me a diagram of the belt arrangement on the Up, and how to change it:

Not too difficult to change .You need a long breaker bar and a a good fitting socket,or a long spanner with not too much off-set.
Thanks. I'll fiddle around first, see if I can get my fingers into the compartment and give it a go if I think I can. Otherwise, do Halfords, Kwiq Fit el al do this sort of work? VW want £100 which is steep for a simple job.
Hi after some conformation/info.
Had a new engine from ford Germany fitted in my car after a piston was destroyed. Expected to have to contact dvlc to regestered new engine number but apparently the new engine came with a blank plate and they punched the old engine number on it . I was able to inspect the broken one on site, so please no replies that it has not been changed. Looking for conformation that this is normal practice at a ford dealership, as it seems very strange to me.... Read more
Wonder if that's the practice internationally?
t'd be quite useful here in Taiwan, because in most cases its expensive to register a new engine number. Used to be entirely illegal, now it just involves large fees and a lot of form filling in Chinese....
Wife woke me up at 4am yesterday said she could hear something moving in the bedroom. I investigated and found a young, small common frog hopping around. We live in a two storey semi. Outside it was pouring with rain so I returned it to the garden and it hopped of towards the pond.
We have no idea how such a creature got up to the bedroom. Anyone have any ideas? Read more
I have frogs in my garden pond. Never seen any inside the house though, let alone climb to bedrooms!
Could you baken over by a bird and then fell from its beak to your bedroom window sill :-)...
I’m thinking of buying a Humax HDR-1800T Freeview + HD Recorder to replace a faulty 9 year old Panasonic DMR-EX79 DVD Recorder that's beyond economical repair.... Read more
We have the Freesat version which operates just fine. Be aware though that there are very few catch up apps on Humax and the BBC Iplayer app often crashes. Bought an Amazon Fire Stick to complement set up--which works a treat with at least 30 useful apps--and guess what -their BBC Iplayer app never crashes!...

I thought I'd update this as it's quite interesting. All those months back, Peugeot told me that dirt must have entered the sleeve behind the pedal causing friction and told me to just drive it as normal. They said they could repair it but as it wasn't actually broken it wasn't worth it. 19 months on, I've added 40,000 miles, been to France a couple of times and not had any problems apart from a sticking clutch pedal every now and then. I am lucky that my dealership has always been so honest I suppose.
