CCTV Smart Systems

I'm thinking of getting into installing CCTV into Cars or vans and need to find out if there is demand for it. Please give me any ideas as to whether its worth it or not?

I know you can buy a lot of cheap dash cams but I'm thinking all four sides and an internal cam for if it has broken into as my Peugeot partner gets broken into at least 2-3 times a year. Read more

Hi, looking for recommendations of a 4x4 for me to use when in forests following and photographing motorsport. Have around £1500 just wanting the most economical cheap ish to run. Anything I should be aware of if running it as a second vehicle? Litkerally for one or 2 weekends a month, will probably sell it come winter. Thinking of going 3rd party as most of its use is on private or forrestry commission land anyway. Was thinking of thZose little suzukis or even a panda 4x4. Just needs to be able to cope with gravelly forest tracks but ok on Normal roads getting there. Read more

This is slightly unrelated but I regularly rent cars on a long term basis and having done so for the last 15 odd years,I now gravitate to renting 4x4's if the cost differential is not too much compared to a normal saloon/estate/hatchback with a lower suspension and smaller wheels.

This thread reminded me of one of the most crazy a***d videos I had seen, going back a few years and I had to do a bit of youtube surfing in the comfort and safety of my arm chair to get to it.

I have seen several websites offering relatively cheap off street parking (people's driveways, etc.). Does anyone have any knowledge of these, recommendations or opinions? Have to take the car to London (from the Channel Islands) for 3 days and would rather not pay the £72-£120 asked by 'standard' car parks.

Many thanks. Read more

My wife uses justpark quite regularly when down at trade shows in London. Most of the parking is at secured private spaces, so I'd doubt if having a more attractive (to thieves) is really a problem.

The Ford Zetec 1.6 cambelt design is good. It is large, sturdy and only drives a couple of small camshafts. Umpteen years ago the advice was 10yrs /100,000m. I sometimes wonder if a sample of 1000 of these engines with belts changed (often inexpertly, with inferior belt/tension pulley replacement) at the advised time/distance would suffer more problems than 1000 engines left alone until either the car died for other reasons or the belt/pulley was changed only when odd noises or burning smell were detected.

I have no intention of changing our Xreg Focus 123,000m belt unless such symptoms occur - I think it will probably last the life of the car if the tension pulley remains serviceable. I feel sympathy for the OP's g/friend!

I'm intrigued how the Mitsubishi PHEV owner managed to misfuel with diesel into his petrol tank. Tens of thousands of people a year misfuel petrol into diesel, but only about 4 people a year manage to get diesel into a petrol car, because the diesel fuelling nozzle won't fit (you have to be REALLY determined and dribble the fuel in).

Did he fuel it by using his own canister? Perhaps he was using red diesel or something like that - an extremely expensive error! Read more
