since having a new cambelt and water pump fitted the garage cannot get my car to run properly. it is in limp home mode. they have rechecked the pump timing as that came up when a diagnostic was carried out. there does not appear to be anything wrong in the crankshaft sensor area either. is this a common problem on this engine.? This just shows how over-priced the Mazda CX-3 is, especially when the range of engines and larger boot size is factored into the equation. Mazda have a good car there (great looking and handling), but other makes are offering faster ones with more space (without them being that different in size overall) but for a much cheaper price. The petrol ones may be more reliable, but not to the tune of several £000s, especially when you can get a larger 3 (or any equivalent from other makes) that is quicker for NO MORE money.
Seats look like good value at present - just a shame their auto is not proven to be reliable (although the latest DSG 'may' be better - we'll see...), which is the one of the mains reasons I don't go for them, yet, and stick with reliable torque converter autos (hence my original interest in the CX-3 - its just no worth spending that much). Mazda missed a trick here, Seat haven't - there's a lesson here for Mazda I think. Read more

Hi
The wife quite fancies a Mini as her daily runabout. It would in a way be nice to come full circle after her 1976 shinola brown 850 original Mini that she had when we first met (used to hearing the water sloshing down from the back of the car to the front footwell when we went downhill in the rain!)... Should be a very good choice, LP. I think you'll find that the Leon will be capable, and much more practical than a Mini, but far from boring to drive. That TSI engine is lovely - very nippy and lots of low-down torque.
You're not kidding....
Can anyone give me some advice on car I am looking to view.

Usually you can - I've edited posts as much as 30 minutes after posting. But if someone else replies to the thread, your window closes instantly. That's my understanding, anyway.
Hi, I have had a glow plug light on for some time. I put the car into the garage for service and MOT today. They said the EGR valve needs replacing for about 800 quid. When I picked the car up and left the garage (as they were closing) the car was gutless, max 2600 revs. Spoke to the service manager and he said it was due to the EGR putting it in limp mode. Too much of a convenience for me. Could anything have been done during service to bring this on ? Greatly appreciate any feedback. Read more
Thanks for all the help, incidentally I spoke to the main dealer as soon as the lights came on (glow plug and emissions light) and was advised to carry on unless there was any difficullty starting or in performance as they were probably just error codes.

finally got to the bottom of the trouble. diagnostic fault codes all incorrect info. nothing at all to do with pump timing. the problem was caused by using a magnetic attaching led inspection lamp. a new reluctor ring rectified the problem. the powerful magnet in the inspection lamp had sent the sensor ring dizzy in my opinion even though 1 expert was 100% adamant that the engine would not start at all if there was the slightest bit of damage to the reluctor.
