Hi,

I hope someone can shed some light on a noise I have on my new car.... Read more

A lot of owners do report a whine in lower gears from a standstill but I can't say I've noticed in driving any, however I've never driven a 1.4 DSG it's all been 2.0 diesels and 2.0 TSi including my gaffers Golf R which is quite a beastie.

The DSG box has a nasty reputation for issues and it's not something I'd personally buy but the Leon 1.4 TSI FR or SE with a manual box is a car I rate highly and would buy so if you can get a swap and are happy to live with a vastly more robust manual gearbox that's what I'd do. These complex dual clutch automated manual boxes should really only be an option if you're buying new with at least three years warranty and plan on offloading before it's up.

Hi, this is my first time posting here and I was hoping someone would be able to help me. I was disqualified from driving in 2012 for totting up 12 points in 2 years. When my ban was over I didn't reapply for my driving license. Can I just fill in the form now to reapply or do I need to retake my test because it has been so long since I last held my valid license? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Read more

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping that would be the case, I just wasn't sure of whether or not I would have to retake my test since I haven't driven in the last 5 years.

"funny noises" are difficult to diagnose on a forum, Carly,...there are many possibilities so you are doing the right thing and getting it to a garage..it may be something really simple..and inexpensive.!

Let us know how you get on.

Looking for some advice.

Bought ex mobility car from a main delear last week. Have just noticed that oil is leaking from the Inlet Manifold. Local mechanic has had a look over car and advised that these engines clog up due to this oil leaking and that turbos are prone to going bang. He's checked the turbo and oil is present in turbo. In addition the hose from turbo to the air filter is covered in oil. On closer inspection the tray at the bottom of the engine bay is covered in stained oil. Think I might have bought a lemon. Looking for advice as in previous threads re new Consumer Law 2015 its says you can hand back within 30 days. Mechanic says that it would require new turbo as it might last 5000 or 25000 miles.

Advice etc would be gratefully appreciated. Read more

Another Update

Garage just off the phone. Director Principle (DP) offered full refund today. Faith restored - Well done Evans Halshaw. - Vauxhall Edinburgh. Lots of bad press but my experience was slow to reply but once Head Office phoned Gary Smith (DP) phoned within twenty minutes and resolved issues. Another plus was the salesman Robert Bonnar - top drawer. So thanks to all for advice etc.

I put my number plate on retention with the DVLA last year as I purchased a used car out of town and had to tax & insure online 'on the spot' prior to driving it home.

As it is almost a year since then (insurance renewal due 12th July) I would now like to put my number plate on this car but I don't know the logistics of doing it. Do I contact my current insurer first and hope their isn't an admin fee this close to renewal date or go on the DVLA website and transfer it over and then renew the insurance?... Read more

Thanks for your reply... nowadays numbers can be on retention for 10 years before you pay again.

My renewal quote is only £218 (fully comp with Tesco) which is cheaper than last year so I probably won't go through a comparison site this year (although maybe I should) so I suppose I should just give them a ring.

Hi can anyone help, I bought the 206 needing a new clutch, then I fitting the new clutch kit all 3 pieces, I saw that the thrust bearing was shattered, so I was happy to continue with the job. Now when the engine is off I can get it in all the gears but with the engine running I can only get it in 5th. In 5th the clutch work as it should. The car was parked up for about 5 yrs before hand. Any help would be great. Thanks Read more

hi guys, recently noticed a pool underneath my car, it appears to be coming from a sensor, dripping onto a pipe, running along the pipe and pooling under the bottom arm of my wheel then dripping when parked on an angle etc. or dripping through the night. was just wondering if anyone could help identify what part this was.

many thanks

Thanks guys, the pool was oil, seems like the seal on that pressure switch has gone, as it is quite moist around there. Got one ordered thanks to you guys. Cheers.

Yaris 2006 1.0 manual, electric PAS

A couple of times recently, the PAS has "switched off" when I do a slow left turn on anything like full lock. I have to continue the journey with stiff steering. No warning lights are shown, and the car drives OK when restarted later -- until the next slow left turn.... Read more

Please get the system tested professionally.not by a breakdown service or a quick fix outfit. Green indicator on the battery means nothing .

Yes, I've booked into a local garage for diagnosis.

But I would expect that Green Flag personnel see these problems several times a week. Maybe they are worth listening to.
