I know this sounds like a stupid question but my car is currently in the vw garage as it broke down (still under used approved Warranty). Warranty not paying out as they believe the car has broken down due to clutch wear and tear which has caused damage to the flywheel.

I have asked 2 independent garages that I trust to provide a quote on parts and labour costs for the car. They both cannot seem to find a flywheel for the car. They both told me the car doesn't have one!... Read more

I would not expect a 1.2 petrol to have a DMF but the engine in question is the horrid 1.2 3 cylinder VAG unit so it may heve been fitted with one in an attempt to smooth out the vibrations.

As suggested above ask the VW parts dept, they will know....

Hi, my fiesta will lose power intermittently, go into limp mode and the display shows EAC FAIL. Recently it has sometimes only slightly lost speed but the EAC FAIL always shows. Yesterday when it happened the display went blank altogether and then showed the fail message. It happens at any speed, ovcaisionally at ignition and may happen a couple of times a week and then not for 2/3 weeks. As soon as I'm able to pull over, turn engine off and back on the fault clears. My brother who is very handy along with advice from a mechanic has replaced the plugs, leads and coil pack to no avail. I'm at the end of my tether now, doing as little mway driving as possible which is no good. I understand it's a common fault and people pay out a lot to try to eliminate the cause, I have to be honest I'm now considering getting rid of the car but this frustrates me as it is otherwise a good runaround for me. If anyone could help with any ideas of what could be the cause I'd be so grateful. Thank you. Read more

The Eac fail warning was/is a common problem on this model. In the majority of cases it is a fault within the electronic throttle body.(there is no mechanical connection between the throttle pedal and the engine).Unfortunately ,a new part is very expensive, from memory over £350 , You could try a s/hand part .May be worth a punt.

Howdo,

We're driving to France next month on our jollydays. My breakdown cover with Kia is UK only, so I need to sort out some cover for whilst we're away. Does anyone have any recommendations or experiences of companies; good or bad?... Read more

Thanks to all.

Changing bank account seems an extreme method to get cover, but thanks for the input! Kia didn't seem to want to answer the telephone today, and me being the impatient sort, wanted to deal with it whilst thinking about it - so I've gone with the RAC at £38-odd for full recovery with repatriation and accommodation etc etc. I could've got cheaper but with an unknown name. ...

Is it me, or is this widely known amongst us, the UK consumer?

I have a fully comprehensive policy with Admiral. If you do, did you know that if you have an accident to the car where it has previously been repaired, that Admiral can choose to pay you cash rather than fix the vehicle? I've just found this out ... do any of you have any suggestions or ideas please, I just want the car fixed, not cash! Here is a little background:... Read more

..... (most second hand cars have probably had something done to them). .....

As I understand the word 'most', you are suggesting that well over half the used cars on the market have been 'fixed' in some way. I seriously doubt that, unless you are talking about cars more than (say) 5 years old - and even then I am still dubious.

I have a 2006 Polo 1.4 TDi hatchback which I've just fitted a towbar to. This was done so that I can use my trailer to take the contents of our loft to the skip prior to having a new roof on the house - saves all the dust and mess getting in the car.

We also own a caravan which we haven't been able to use since my tow-car died a couple of years ago - it's just stood in storage, costing us money. ... Read more

Acceleration may well be 40s or more to 60mph, but that is in any case the absolute upper speed limit for the outfit and the acceleration will be no worse, and almost certainly better, than that of an artic loaded to 44 tonnes.

On a motorway it will roll along at 56mph on all but the worst inclines, again comparable with LGVs. On a dual carriageway, ditto. On a NSL single carriageway the outfit is limited to 50. ...

Have to agree with davey- Honda Jazz all day long.
It is the default choice for its reliability, practicality and also from what I believe I don't think the front seats are too low which is always helpful for the older generation.

Can anyone tell me if the sump is easily removable to allow big end cap to be taken off so I can draw the piston out, it was damaged by the broken spark plug. don't yet know if the bore is scored, don't know if it's financially feasible for 53 model even doing the job myself. thanks, Mike Read more

A bit of lateral thinking here.

Buy/borrow/hire a borescope - Lidl were doing a brilliant model recently for about 50 quid, I've got one that I bought a couple of years ago, the camera head is only 8 mm diameter so will easily go down a plughole then you can have a look around inside the cylinder without taking the head off. ...

My policy with Tesco offers a 90 day cover in any one year period as standard. Maybe it is now a policy feature given the travelling habits of modern people.
