MrLJ

We just bought our first car (with thanks to some excellent advice on this forum) and I have a question about how to protect our parking space.

I've owned my house for 10 years and my garage is near the end of a row of 10 in a block on private land nearby. The area has fallen into disrepair and is also abused by tenants of neighbouring flats, as well as commuters, and at times all the spaces are taken. As my wife (the driver) sometimes works 12 hour shifts, it won't be very funny when she gets home at 8.15pm, finds our space already taken and has to drive around the neighbourhood and walk back in the dark.... I did think the whole of the land the garages are on was private and owned by the tenants. If some is owned by the tenants, who owns the rest?. Who owns the access and is there a right of access for garage owners only or the general public?. Some homework needs doing here. If you all agree, the cheapest and easiest method of protecting the area is fold down barriers at the access point, with each tenant having a key. That should keep out all who don't own garages or have right of access. If some are not bothered then individual posts can be installed on your plot, which should at least protect your space. Mark it off with bright yellow or red road marker (Screwfix sell this) to make it clear it is private and in use and access is required at all times. Good luck. All the information is out there, it just needs digging out. Make it a project, take your time and don't get disheartened. The Borough Surveyors office of your local council would be a starting point. Good luck. Concrete

Forum Morgan EV
hillman

The IEEE Spectrum On-line has an article about the Morgan EV which is a three wheeler, likie the original, but with an electric motor and battery instead of the vee twin engine with visible valve springs. The article says that the motor is 'rear mounted'. I wonder if the purists will regret the passing of the long chain that seemed to break at the most inconvenient time. Indeed, I wonder if it has a chain at all.

Moran say that the vehicle will do 90 mph and travel 150 miles on a charge. It has has an ash frame, also like the original, but some carbon composite panels to reduce weight. Read more

Just as I receive no commission for recommending Bosch approved Car Service Centres : I trust completely Gordon will have no other motivation ( I suspect you were tongue-in-cheek )

I would quite like some way to contact posters who can give professional advice....

I purchased a used VW Golf MK6 from VW dealer - White Rose Petersfield in Dec 2015. When purchasing the car, I questioned the duration of the Das Welt Auto Warranty included as I was under the impression it was a 2 year warranty. However the salesman confirmed it was in fact a 12 month warranty included in the price of the car. This is reflected on my order form for the car and other documents I received with the car. This month the car began going into limp mode and I had it diagnosed elsewhere that the EGR Valve needed replacing (mileage at 98,000). As I was aware my warranty expired in Dec 2016 I paid out of my own pocket for the repair at a local independent garage totalling £551.79!

Fast forward 3 weeks and I drop off my car at Listers VW Leamington Spa for a minor service. During conversation the gentleman from the service team mentioned my car still being under warranty (?!) and then confirmed this by showing me on their system that it doesn't expire until Dec 2017. I questioned if the EGR Valve is covered by the warranty which he informed me it is! I asked what I could do to try and resolve having spent £550 on a repair which was actually covered under the warranty, unknown to me, and he directed me to call their customer services line as they couldn't do anything there.

I am yet to get in contact with VW as I wanted to ask for advice on what actions to take if they try and wriggle out of this situation with anything less than a full reimbursement. Obviously I will prepare the invoice for the replacement EGR Valve and the documentation my end stating my warranty has expired, perhaps I could try and get proof of the 2 year warranty from the Leamington dealer too?

Any thoughts would be great. Thanks! Read more

Ford 3 year warranty is 12 months & insured warranty for years 2&3..........how do Ford & VW think they can get away with that when others - Toyota/Honda/Hyundai & Kia offer much better warranties....

Although your Passat uses the Can Bus system not all lights are monitored so dont necessarily show a lamp failure. Not saying that is what your problem is but its a possibility. Ive replaced a few of my interior lights with non Can Bus LEDs with no effect.

Hi bought a brand new 5series tourer a few weeks ago before they stopped production and started on the new sharp one. It's got 500 miles on it and seems to have developed an annoying rattle which with all the back seats up sounds like a click when back seats down is louder and sounds like a rattle.

The boot is clear all seats lock in correctly the electric parcel shelf is also locked in.. it's really annoying. I'm taking it back next week to get looked at just wondering if anyone has experienced this itvreally only happens going over an uneven road surface.. Read more

Hi - I purchased a car from a dealer a year ago and it had loads of faults wrong with it which i wasnt told of at the point of sale. The dealer refused to take the car back so i took him to court. I won the court case yesterday and the judge ruled for the dealer to pay me my money back within 14 days. The dealer said he is going to apply for an appeal as he feels the judge was unfair, he has sent me an email saying he is going to instruct a lawyer. He has sent me the following ' we will take the car back but as its been a year we will give you £400 less this will cover our costs of collection and as its been parked up for a year there will be lots more issues with it, if not we will be putting in an appeal'

Of course i wont be accepting his 'offer' as i won the case fair and square. And if he doesnt pay within the 14 days i will instruct the court for a warrant, however, i wanted some advice on what actually happens with the car, the judge only ruled that the dealer had to pay me the money back in 14 days and nothing was said about the car? Does it have to be returned? What if they pay in installments? And if it gets to the point of having to instruct bailiffs to get the money back what do i do then? - Anyone whose been in a similar situation id love to know your thoughts!... Read more

I once had a judgement in my favour and the business in question did not pay on time. Even after several reminders. I went back to the small claims court and filed the information and the bailiffs then collected the debt by going to the business premises to clain goods to the value of. He closed the premises, so the bailiffs went to his house (he was a sole trader) and his wife paid up. Follow the procedure. It is slow and cumbersome but once set in motion it does work unless the debtor is potless!!

The car will have to go back of course but not until you have the money safely paid into and cleared into your account. Check with your bank to ensure any cheque or payment cannot be clawed back at anytime. It sounds like he wants a second bite of the cherry, but too late. A point of law will be his only grounds for appeal, not court procedure. The judges do this daily and rarely make errors. As this case is a simple one under consumer rights legislation I think he has no chance of an appeal being mounted let alone successful. Write to him recorded delivery saying when and how you want the money in full and then the car will be handed back. If he fails to comply with your reasonable terms for settlement then go back to court. Don't tell him that or threaten him, just do it. Good luck. Cheers Concrete

Hi all, I replaced the slave cylinder and clutch a few months back - but NOT the dual mass flywheel - for money reasons. Garage did advise me to change it at the time. Reason for this was that the clutch hit the floor due to the slave cyclinder failing. Garage said I could get the car back on the road cheaply by simply changing the clutch and slave cylinder. So this is what I did..

My skoda (has 142k miles) and now requires a new cam belt, full service brakes & discs, totally around £1000. If I changed the dmf this will shoot the price up by around another £600. ... Read more

I wouldn't include the cost of servicing / brakes in your calculations to keep the car as whatever you buy will also need maintaining. However I would consider the overall condition of the car. ...
