Hi, my partner decided to spend his day off with a mate going to Skegness. On the way they had a drink but then proceeded to drive the car onto a beach close to the town with the intention of stopping for a while by the sea and then walking into the town for a couple of hours. They opened a can of lager each and sat close to the car but in the meantime a local called the police as the car should not have been on the sand (which was stuck anyway and needed the council to tow it off).
As the coppers saw the drinks cans my partner was breathalysed & was positive. At the machine at the station he blew .9 over (about half a pint). He explained the circumstances and the police said they would be in touch if they decide to take the matter further.
Given that he was out of the car, not parked on a public road, intending to walk into town and not have anymore to drink, being about half a pint over and given the fact the police saw him drinking on the beach after the car was parked, what might be the outcome? Thank you Read more

All of above is irrelevant when not parked outside home.

You can and will get done for sitting in the driving seat with the vehicle parked and keys are not in the ignition as you are still controlling the movement of the vehicle, the dictionary states ......

Driving Dope

I am constantly frustrated by car drivers who think that the rules of the road do not apply to them: tailgating, hogging the middle lane, speeding, through red lights, etc. Today I was driving down a narrow, one-way lane when a car driver passed me at speed with only 3 inches to spare, running me off the road. Fortunately for them, I was riding slowly enough to stop and wasn’t injured. I pointed out to one of them that all road users had equal rights to be there and that his car VED was an emissions tax and it didn’t give him the right to intimidate or drive dangerously, and he said “I’m in a car so it’s ok.” He continued to swear at me and blame me for the incident. I reported it to the police informing them that I had a video recording but they were not interested. They have registration marks, but just do as they please. Is it time to do something about these rogue car drivers?

Unfortunately these motoring louts have been allowed to inhabit the moral high ground, so unless we become a Republic and elect Jeremy Clarkson as president this sort of thing will continue Read more

You've hit the nail on the head. There are idiotic pedestrians who just step into the road and expect traffic to stop but also plenty of motorists who don't know they need to give way to pedestrians crossing the road they want to turn in to and by the way using indicators let's pedestrians know what your intentions are too.

Cyclists on pavements because they are fed up of cars passing too closely causes friction with pedestrians....

More money for the governments coffers. They could improve road safety by actually filling in a few pot holes if they wanted to. Read more

Looking at the article, doesnt that mean you have to go to a Magistrate court, and speed camera fixed penalties unless referred to court are unaffected

The whole parking tickets saga is a farce. All this is to give private companies a license to print money. I personally have challenged them on tickets issued wrongly and they behave like thugs in recovering the said fine. The whole thing is ridiculous to say the least. Read more

I know this subject has been discussed previously but due to a family discussion this weekend some of us are now considering installing them. Won't bore you with details, but eldest daughter is a police officer and she shared some insights that made us think. We want decent kit but not an installation that requires an auto electrician. Preferably the power supply and the camera should be removable, quickly and easily if required. I know several forum members have them already and would appreciate some advice on which type would be suitable.

I found it really easy to hard-wire the power supply for my dash cam.

You need a "piggyback" fuse (£2 or £3 on eBay) and a 12v-to-mini-USB converter (£5 or so on eBay). The piggyback fuse went into an empty slot in the fusebox, (or replace an existing fuse otherwise). The plastic trim cover on the windscreen A pillar just unclipped so the wire could be dropped down behind it, then down into the fuse box and crimped to the flying fuse lead and an earth point. Tthe top run tucked under the head lining across to the interior mirror where the dashcam is mounted....

Sounds like a weak connection. An auto electrician would be your best bet, they could trace the circuit and find the weak / corroded spot

with the scheme, does it mean that you only get the money if you trade it in for another vehicle, or can you just get the money for the car? Read more

At last someone with a brain... as you rightly say Vehicles only contribute 10% of the NOx pollution. but the government just see cars, vans and trucks as an easy money maker. which is what this scrappage scheme would be. up to a few months ago i worked for a VW dealership as service manager and i was there when the previous Scrappage scheme was running. and i know for a fact that 80% of the cars that were supposed to have been crushed found their way back onto the road again... OK most went out to Romania but they are still out there polluting. but the government were seen to be doing the right thing.

if you look at the monetary side of things... so you take the governments £2000 for your old car... then go and buy a new Golf Diesel for £22500.00 the government get back double what they have given you in scrappage from the VAT on the new car. then the portion of the interest on any finance taken....

Sack the designers, if that's the best they can do, they all look very much alike to me, and I certainly will not be chopping my 2014 Mokka 1.7 se in for any of them, And Peugeot underpinnings do nothing for me either, apart from underwelm me. Read more

So my car was hit and run on the 16th and the driver failed to stop i was made aware of this by my neighbour i have a witness to the incident and the drivers registration i reported this to the police straight away they said they will look into it and get back to me they got back to me within a couple of hour and said all i can do is prosecute which i chose not to i informed my insurer who said i would need to make a claim on my own insurance to repair the car which i dont really want to do i have done a mib check and informed his insurer of the incident and they had no account of it because the over party has obviously not reported it

what should i do in this incident my insurer are looking to put the third party at fault but i dont want my ncb to be effected my insurer and his insurer have the witnesses details and the police log no. i could go down the v888 form route but i think it will be a waste of time.... Read more

They are right, I am amazed you did not report it if you are not blameworthy and I am not suggesting an opinion either way, In all insurance claims where criminal negligence may apply no claim can be dealt with over a 3rd party unless it is reported to the police, make sure you get the crime reference number.

If they drove of that is an offence it itself, and if they did intend to do it legally then they would not have driven off....
