Hello everyone,

I have a Ford Ka 2003, just under 60,000 miles with the Check Engine light on. Went to garage yesterday for diagnostic and they said that it was an exhaust sensor issue and the light had gone off but if it came back on then to come back and they'll sort it (liars, I turned the car on and it was still there, but they were closing in 20 minutes so no chance of getting a repair).... Are you sure your fault lies with the O2 sensor? Any idiot can plug in a scantool, read a fault code. Just because O2 sensor is mentioned doesn't necessarily mean the sensor is the problem. If the sensor is open or short circuit then yes, it most likely needs replacing. But if it's an implausible signal or out of range fault, or if the issue is related to fuel trim being either too rich or too lean then changing the sensor may not solve anything.

O2 sensors can be checked quite easily. Your problem may lie elsewhere and a competent person will be able to carry out checks based on the information received from the O2 sensor. The cure could even be as simple as adding a bottle of injector cleaner and a good Italian tune up. The only sure thing playing parts darts achieves is emptying your bank account.

The time to start worrying is when both your mechanic AND your doctor tell you 'All that pipework's a bit of a joke, you know. It'll all have to come out'.

Hi!

Any ideea on how can I get rid of EGR circuit low?
Egr is woking fine, gas flow is ok, egu is reading it ok. No wiring problems. Egr brand new and gas cooler cleaned.

Is there any way that this could be due to another error such as intercooler bypass valve stuck close? Read more

My suspension intermittently drops on the driver's side rear air suspension when parked. It is fine when driving and there are no error codes on the diagnostics. A leak seems unlikely as half the time it stays level. Any suggestions would be appreciated as it is under warrantee but the garage can't find a fault. Read more

Thanks for the reply. They are willing to fix the car but can't find the problem. If it can't be fixed I will return it to the garage.

Hi,

First post here so go easy on me !!

Just bought an 09 Focus that has the temperature pointer (if that's what you call it !). Does anyone know if it's just a case of sourcing the actual pointer or will the entire gauge or even entire dash need replacing ?

I can get a picture uploaded if that would help ?

Thanks in advance,

"I though it strange that the orange led is constantly illuminated ?"

If the pointer was like the one in the petrol gauge, is it now possible the light provides illumination from behind the rather wide base of the needle?

It may just stop dead if the camshaft position sensor..... but, I hope your service history is up to date and on time/mileage and a full Kia history, or you might have to produce detailed invoices to get the benefit of the warranty.

If you can manage without, drop the car off and ask them to do it asap.

Yes, advice is walk away without looking back and be thankful for everafter that you did.

Automated manual gearboxes are the work of the devil, not only are they unpleasant in use but they will give wallet emptying problems at some point, and very likely to be the reason for scrapping a car so equipped, just be thankful it showed it's already giving problems before you bought the thing.

My MoT failed to pick up bald tyres and then it blew on the motorway - what do I do? This is recent question to HJ. Driver with 2 bald tyres has recent MoT - which doesn't identify this. Driver then has one tyre blow up on m'way and second bald tyre is noted. Blame goes to MoT station. HJ agrees that MoT station should be checked up. Quite right, of course. However, the driver must have had badly worn tyres for a long time, given they're now bald. Each tyre should get the driver 3 points and £2500 fine. Driver is being reckless, dangerous and irresponsible and should not have been driving the car. The action of the MoT station is a separate affair. Even if driver is not very 'mechanically minded' etc., the responsibility of the car's condition is the driver's and should get someone else to check the tyres etc. even if they can't. I'm really surprised that HJ didn't point a finger of blame on this driver. Read more

I know its a bit late now but this is where investing in a dash cam could be worth it, it won't stop you getting any car park dings, but it may record the incident that could help in the future, have you thought about a smart repair? or is the scrape too big for this?
