Hello Everyone, I am very tempted with a locally advertised A3, it has the well respected 1.9 tdi/pd lump in it, 56reg, lowish 58kmiles.
Research has told me that it is non DPF...138 k/gm,... approx late 07 Audi offered the same... Read more
Just noticed the number of new registered 17 plate cars especially Mercedes.
Are they doing amazing PCP or other deals as you see people who would normally be driving a run of the mill car now changing every three years for a prestige brand especially MB.... Read more
The "problem" with buying used is that you have to settle for someone else's choice of options - the only way I could get what I wanted was a factory order to get the luxury without the bling - I did negotiate a big discount though - yes, I've taken a bit hit already in depreciation but over the 15 year expected life, it's not too bad.
I prefer the base model with no options. Less to go wrong and in the long term that counts. I don't want leather seats - too cold in winter and hot in summer. I don't want big alloy wheels. The smaller steel wheels give a more comfortable ride and are less likely to get damaged on kerbs. I don't want diesels, turbos, dual clutch gearboxes, lane departure warnings, electric handbrakes, touch screens, etc. It is getting hard to think of a new car without those things so I will stick with the old one. However I do understand that people do want those things and I don't knock them for it....
Looking for some advice before investing in a car.
Currently own a 1.6l petrol focus zetec 2012. Roughly worth £4500. Part exchange this and possibly add £2k. Top price I'd pay is 14k.
I drive roughly 32miles 5 days a week on an A road.
Stick with petrol or go to diesel?
I have been looking at another focus, civic or Megane. Looking for something similar In size.
All advice and info appreciated. Read more

GR from Penketh (page 1) may care to note that only the top-of-the-range Sport model is affected - the BOSE sub-woofer in part of the under-boot space reduces the overall boot space considerably (see Car-by-Car section), but apparently all models can take a space saver spare, though at a ridiculous cost of £395 (from Mazda) for the wheel, tyre and special holder inside the wheel for the existing garb (presumably except the tube of gunk) that went in the location now taken by the spare. Sadly the same across the whole range, where space-saver spares are only an option (not sure about the MX-5 though).
I think they've gone too far on the weight-saving. Best to have a space under the main boot area to accommodate a full sized spare (even if a space-saver is fitted, so that the flat tyre can be suitably stowed if the boot is full). Read more
Bottom line here is if your doing it on the public highway then the highway code applies, regardless of whether your a pedestrian, cyclist or driver of whatever 'vehicle'. Agree with the points above regarding lack of respect and poorly thought out and implemented road infrastructure.
Wife decided that the man with everything was getting a dashcam for his birthday. I hate loose cables everywhere so will dard wire to the fuse box and this is where I am looking for a bit of advice. I plan to use one of these piggy-back fuse holders and fit to an accessory type fuse, intereor lights or heated mirrors or something. Dose this sound like a plan or am I likley to hit any problems?
Ive done a lot of things like this in the past but never on a car with canbus and such fancy electronics. I renderd my 2005 Touran immobile after pulling fuses and inducing a whole pile of fault codes and it took a call to the AA to sort. Embarrassing.... Read more

I bought my car 8 days ago having seen an advert from a car trader (not private seller) on both Autotrader and Ebay.
It all seemed to stack up - and I was aware that my (accepted) offer of £6500 was a competitive price compared to forecourt and main dealers. The test drive revealed nothing of note, and I was assured that everything worked as it should.... Read more
You should have given him the opportunity to put it right. Not doing so costs you dearly in terms of your legal rights.
Not being local is no excuse. 'Reasonable opportunity' doesn't have to start with a 2hr road trip, it could just as easily be a phone call. You do have someone in the family with a phone?...
Was this epic version of the RR dating back to 2004 possibly the best built and reliable version ever built. With the 3 litre not the 2.5 BMW Tdi engine it could possibly bring a sensible option to this much maligned, by mechanics, model. Apparently even this version did not have the infamous Swirl flaps that could fall into the engine
And was it actually built by BMW when they owned the company? Read more
Some of can rmember the days when an advantage of buying a British car, rather than what we used to call a foreign one, was that spare parts were cheaper.
Then we got to the stage when some 'foreign' makes needed rather fewer spare parts than the British did......and now they aren't even cheaper.
So got a tap / rattle that appears to be coming from the cam belt side of the engine. Most audible at 2000rpm. Also engine drives fine.
I'll link a couple of videos of the noise being made.... Read more

Great thanks for the info people. I'll have a look around at the cars mentioned in the comments.
It's always going to be tricky finding a car under 3 years old to fit within my budget though! There is always going to be less choice down in Cornwall. I found a few in my price range but they were about 300 miles away!...
I have a holiday this May at Scotland for 2 weeks. I am more concerned about my clutch the car that I have owned it since 32,000 miles it never had a new clutch replacemnt before now currently at 101,053 miles. How can I be sure we don't have a clutch slip while on holiday because in Scotland where we are going it will be alot of gear change, uphill and dowhill with payload approxment 200kg
Is there any other way of tell clutch wear? I am not sure what is clutch life expectancy should last? ... Read more
The only thing i would add is does reverse gear engage from rest without "crunching" and the forward gears without baulking (or no more than it always has anyway) ?
