We've been building cars for over 100 years, isn't it ime that we got them right? Is it because the older designers/engineers retire and the new University trained ones coming in haven't a clue? So instead they "do it their way". Read more
As the current record purchasing on autos has been fueled by PLP plans that are running at £32 billion, it will probably be a good thing if sales drop, not for the manufacturers but all those caught up in this you can have a new car but never own madness. Read more
Hey,
I've spent the last 6 months working on an app for checking the MOT History of any UK-registered vehicle. I released a similar app last year for Android called MOT History Check which exploded with support and feedback, especially from car dealers who used the app the most and sent emails every week requesting features.
I tried to fit as many features into CarKit as possible, with the ability to store lists of vehicles for selling/buying or set up watch lists. It has some additional features like vehicle valuations, tax status, tax band and tax cost.
I was wondering if you'd be able to give me some feedback on the first version of the app. I'd like to make it as comprehensive as possible, so I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts on it :)

Tom, do the CarKit app not support iOS 11.3? Because earlier it was working fine with my iPhone 7 running iOS 10 but now when I will open it will load a blank screen and crash after few secs. Please release an update soon, thanks in advance.
Well I rang to my Civic in for an MoT and its fourth service in my ownership, on a Honda service plan. The service receptionist quoted back the wrong (basic) service. It should be the more expensive one that includes valve clearances. I had to put him right. Its not the first time I have found that the employees don't understand Honda's alpha-numeric service system.
Then when I took it in, the service manager himself booked me in. He said that the MoT would "only" be £35. I had to point out that, having bought it from them, my car gets free MoTs, as long as they service it. This is in writing as part of tbe sales documentation.
On collection the receptionist went through all the paperwork. No free breakdown and recovery cover had been provided even though its part of Honda's long-running service offer. Apparently I should have asked for it! They don't provide it automatically. She was however able to sort it right away.
So what should have been an experience where I felt I was getting a very good deal (which it is), left me pretty disgruntled. I could have missed out on £100 or more of value. They obviously have the offers that apply to me on the system as the issues were readily resolved which makes it all the more annoying. It feels as if they are trying it on.
A very different experience from the (often criticised) VW service that SLO is enjoying on another current thread. Read more
I find the single turbo 1.6 stronger than expected with very little lag. It's smooth and revs quickly for a diesel but I've never driven the twin turbo so I've no idea how it'll perform at low speeds.
Got to say I'm a little concerned about the longterm durability of a twin turbo small capacity engine, I believe Honda seen which way the wind was blowing regarding diesels and chose to boost the 1.6 rather than engineering a new larger capacity motor for the CRV which isn't always a good thing in the longterm but Honda rarely get it wrong so maybe I'm being unfair.
I'll certainly be looking at them despite my issues with our dealer and the clutch problem but I'll be more interested in the new turbocharged 1.5 petrol.
Hi
I've had an ongoing problem for a while with my 10 plate Mondeo - the bonnet won't close properly. It holds on the catch but will not fully close.... Read more
£160 to supply and fit a bonnet release cable? Unless there is some unkown complication I think they are taking the proverbial.
I have my Golf 1.6 tdi almost 2 years and have never had no probelms with it. However I have noticed more recently when accelerating from example, 50/55 to 60, and letting off the pedal there is a shake/slight judder???
I am confident it is not the alloys/tyres as are they are brand new and have been balanced before being put on, I also got the standard alloys rebalanced but again no difference. I have had the car plugged in with the latest version of VCDs but no codes are apparent. ... Read more

We are off to Bournemouth on Sunday, after I have performed all of my official duties in the morning! My wife is keen to take her car (Yaris Hybrid) and I am debating whether to take the Logan or the MX5. The Logan would be an easier trip, but less fun when we got there.
So the first question, is it a risk to take a 13 year old car on a long trip? Is it worth it for having a convertible to use on hols?
And secondly, which route do I take down to the south coast? The obvious route is M40, A34 and M3, but I don't fancy that! I could do some of the M5 then cut across country? Any suggestions? Read more
"And right you are, but it's not quite so easy with an automated manual or twin clutch (DSG style) box which most likely has no 'park' gear at all".
Well, we all know the reply that both you and I would give to that..... ...
(don't want to throw too many Qs into my other thread hence this if that's ok!)
I've an Audi TT DSG. Incredible car, love it to bits. The DSG works like a dream.... Read more
Thanks BBD, not something i've come across, nor likely to as i don't want cars modern enough to have such devices.
Works the opposite way to what i would have thought, i would have expected it to limit the power and revs to prevent damage, so in other words the car is in default nanny knows best mode all the time and you have to physically switch the controls off....

I have a Toyota Privia 2.0 d4d on a y reg 2000 model
It has 280 thousand and I have done 90 thousand with just one breakdown We think this may have only been due to a dodgy manifactured fuel filter !...
We have only one key (which includes remote unlocking fob) and need at least one more key.
The car isn't worth much so it's certainly not worth having a spare key created.... Read more
What I have done on many older Fords ,is to dismantle the key and carefully remove the glass immobiliser chip from its rubber sleeve.tape this to the area around the ignition switch that allows the car to start.you can now get as many basic keys cut as you need to open/close the car and start the engine.
At one time most Vauxhalls had components made in England and assembled in Luton. Some were built to a very high standard by Opel in Belgium with Vauxhall badges on them. All of these vehicle were easy to maintain.
All my own vehicles were.
1952 Vauxhall Wyvern bench seat and column change you could count the firing order when it was ticking over.
1962 Vauxhall Victor FB easiest car in the world to drive and brilliant MPG.
Vauxhall Carlton 2200 Fuel injection auto like sitting in a mobile living room. Vauxhall Cavalier with a Izuzu diesel I am sure it run on fresh air.
Vauxhall Astra 1.7cdti estate 07 plate lovely car and efficient, brake discs like new 80,000 miles should have kept it.
Sad to say after lifetime of Vauxhalls I now have a 2013 zafira B which was bought on the understanding that it was not a model that was on recall. I always wanted a zafira but failed with this one. The company I bought it from blamed Vauxhall for not letting them know and I bet I have lost £1000`s but worse things happen. I should have taken them on but al the staff where I got it were so nice and upset as to what had happened. What made it worse was my wife who is severely disabled had asked all the questions about this vehicle but she still likes it.
