I'd read that growing trees give off more oxygen/ take in more CO2 than fully grown trees - is this likely to be the same for NOX?

Assuming that Halfords did cause damge to the OP's car while fitting a radio, they should be given the opportunity to repair that damage at no cost to the OP....

Both on A and B roads and indeed observed within urban districts, the nasty habit of driving away from the left of the road, right up to the centre if not over the white line facing oncoming traffic. Reason?--to avoid pot holes. Result?- at worst a scraped car, second worse a swerve into the pot hole for the oncoming vehicle.

What's the solution? In an emergency of course I suppose it is good manners to give way entirely by coming to a halt to allow Mr/Mrs Selfish to continue on their royal way --but that risks the oncoming driver being rammed form behind. ... Read more

We've just re-insured our three cars at an average cost of just over £200 each, fully comp, protected on two policies, legal protection on all three, all including yet more tax taken by any increasingly indebted state.

Considering just how incompetent so many drivers are these days, and how greedy some people are re jumping on the claims bandwagon for the slightest nudge, isn't car insurance at an all time relatively low cost for most of us?... Read more

For many years I have had very reasonable premiums, but wait until you retire, my policy with John Lewis nearly doubled last year. I changed company, but according to my broker, this is now the norm. I do far less miles, no business use, but still the massive rise.

That's not been my experience - when I retired (early) I declared lower mileage and no need for commuting or business use and the premium went down - premiums do rise with age over 70 but very slowly.

Well londoners voted him in, its up to you to vote him out, I wonder how much longer couriers and delivery drivers blacklist London, and what about banning London buses and taxis to make it unilateral. Read more

Interesting debate topic, but what you appear to have conveniently overlooked is the reluctance of successive governments to acknowledge their promotion of Diesel engines. I would agree that the oldest Diesel engines pollute heavily, but the very latest are far better at addressing this issue
I am quite in favour of a Diesel scrappage scheme, and quite willing to hand mine in, but since it's under 6 months old, the payout has to be book price. Not a small allowance.
I feel cheated by the government and so-called health experts (I believe global warming is just a big con but that's another issue entirely), who clearly haven't done their research correctly, so why should I and millions of other motorists be penalised for their mistakes?

Is it ok to use alloy wheel cleaners on diamond cut alloys? I have the 19" diamond cut on my 320d m sport and find them a bigger to clean but not sure whether to use an alloy cleaner in them?? Read more

I used wonder wheels or other cheapish wheel cleaner for 4 years on diamond cut wheels and it didn't seem to do any harm.

I purchased a car last weekend using my current car as trade in with a value of £1k. This was all shaken on, signed contracts and we'd agreed to collect the vehicle on Sunday.

They've rung me today saying I need to pay a further £500 as they've run an HPI check on our car and it is a former insurance right-off (which was news to me as this information wasn't passed on when I bought the car privately), drastically diminishing the value of the trade in.... Read more

Whilst a car can easily become Cat D due to something minor once it is old and low value (something like a scratched bumper would do it) we do not know this is the case in this example.

It could have been written off when 18 months old with £10,000 worth of damage and had a shoddy repair to put it back on the road. All depends on when it was declared cat D which could well before even the current owner bought it.

Hi all,

After having a local garage fit a cheap replacement mirror on the drivers side , I've had problems with the heating element. The mirror just won't clear and after checking the temperatures of both mirrors, the passenger side gets to around 40 degrees where as my side barely reaches 15. It's slightly irritating and I've decided that I'm going to replace the mirror again.

What's the best place to order a decent/genuine part? I've heard good things about GFS.

I hope you don't mind if I seek your expert opinion on something?

I've got a 2011 Polo (61 plate) which I'm thinking of selling as I really don't use it that much (I have access to 2 other cars). I've used a variety of sites to get a rough idear of what price I would expct to achieve for it. These all fall in the £5,500 to £5,900 range. However, when I look on Autotrader and Ebay at private sales I reckon I should be starting at £6,500 and look to get no less than £6,000.... Read more

Not at all - I'm a realist and a car is only worth what someone else is prepared to pay for it. I'd rather offer it for a price that will sell (although I'm not in any rush to sell).

Thanks once again.
