Toyota verso 1.8 petrol - very low mpg after oil change - esper

hi

suplied yesterday toyota Premium 5w-30 together with Mann oil filter to local

garage to replace it in my vehicle, together with brake oil change ,all breakes

bleeding and rear brake pads replacement.

Before I had about 35mpg on 0W20 , after oil change dashboard shows

about 24mpg.Technician put 5 litres of new oil which is appearently too much

as oil level on dipstick was above upper mark when I checked it later .

when returned and showed him dipstick he extracted a little bit oil as he

stated oil has to be in upper level and that extraction should help now with

mpg

but it didnt change anything as still can see 24 -25 mpg despite reseting

couple of times on dashboard. What can be the reason for that and advice

please ?

I doubt the thicker oil would make any noticeable difference and it is within recommended parameters. Assuming you're not just talking about a short stop start drive to and from the garage which sub 30mpg on one of these wouldn't be abnormal then I can only assume the brakes which were also attended to are binding slightly. The engine runs ok, revs freely? Take it back to them if this doesn't free off within a few days.

Thanks,

yes , drive mainly now in town only but on longer street distances mpg was about 30 mpg. Revs ok, engine ok, new toyota rear brake pads can see with copper grease , myabe worth to double check it.

will drive couple of days also outside town to double check a mpg.

even was considering a diagnostick check at dealer but its expensive

rear brakes binding after replacement.

/\ /\ As above If brakes are binding/dragging after replacement it would hammer fuel consumption
