It is possible the release cable has come adrift or there is a plastic coupling joint that can break.Take it to a garage ,they should be able to open it with a long screwdriver.

Hi,

Earlier this year I discovered a number of my footwells were soaked with water. After investigating it we found that the water was coming in from the front passenger side, soaked the footwell & spreading to other footwells.... Read more

My 2009 XF 2.7D Luxury has been displaying the following warning lights:

Gearbox Fault
DSC Not Available
Parking Brake Fault
The low battery light has occasionally come on since I've had the car

Given that the car drove perfectly with these warning lights on and that the car was on it's original 2008 dated battery, I thought that a new battery would cure the problem.

However after fitting a new battery, all the warning lights above came on again AND the Cannot Apply Parking Brake warning light and constant buzzer warning for this comes on when driving. Also, after fitting the new battery the brake lights don't come on! I had a new brake light switch fitted but the brake lights still don't come on!

The low battery warning still comes on occasionally too even though the battery is brand new.

I've taken the car to an independent and a specialist but neither had the latest Jaguar software so it's booked into the main dealer next week.

Greatly appreciate any advice - while the new battery was a waste of time and caused the new problems at least fitting a new battery proved that it wasn't the original battery causing the warning lights.

Given that the new battery hasn't cured it, I'm thinking along the lines of maybe a software upgrade (car hasn't been serviced at main dealer for 18mths) or a computer reset with the latest Jaguar software could possibly resolve the issue?

Adam, the guys at jaginfo.org might be able to help. Apart from the brake switch, one cause was a faulty connector under the dash.

Hi all.

We have 56 reg 207. It blows only cold air.

When the engine is hot, no luck either.

Radiator has enough coolant. Dipstick is OK. So no HGF.

I have took the manual controls out. There was no loose connection.

I have checked heating matrix temp. It was hot.

I am not sure if matrix has to be changed or if it is airlock. Even if it is airlock, I don't know how to bleed the heating system. I could not find the valve or screw for the bleeding.

Could anyone help please?

Thanks in advance Read more

Just bought a 2004 1.3 gsi with 20k miles on. The check engine management light has started to flash occasionally when accelerating at low revs and the car Judders. The light then goes off and the car drives as it should again.

Otherwise the car is very smooth and mint. Any ideas what this could be?... Read more

They are changing coil pack, spark plugs and leads for £200. They seem confident that's the problem I hope they are right.

I thought I would relate a problem I had with the engine in my Corsa D diesel and how I fixed it.

I have a 2007 Corsa D 1.3 CDTi with a Z13DTJ engine and 80k miles on the clock.
It developed a intermittent problem where it would start OK but wouldn't pick up when the accelerator was pressed, the engine would run rough, emit loads of smoke and have no power. If I let it idle for a few minutes it would eventually pick up and would be OK for the rest of the day.

None of the dashboard warning/error lights came on when the problem was occurring.... Read more

Son has above car on lease. No longer needs car but still has to pay lease. I need new car and am looking at amongst others sportage 1.6 gdi petrol. I do lots of short journeys of 2 miles from cold urban then a longer 50 miles of mixed conditions approx every 3 weeks. Aside from dpf possible clogging but by all means air your views on that, would these short journeys damage the diesel engine anyway without a dpf. Not thinking of removing dpf by the way! It would obviously help my son's finances if I took the diesel car off him. Read more

How long is the lease for? Dpf asside you'd be unlucky for this sort of use to cause terminal decline in the lease time left.

Most days, the first start of the day there is a problem When pulling away it goes into gear OK but drives away with a big snatch. Stopping the engine and restarting usually clears this problem and can then pull away smoothly. Gear changes are dead smooth for the rest of the day.

Diagnostics says no fault codes. Milage 90,000 miles.... Read more

Jaguar X type 2.2 diesel owners had similar issues whereby the EGR couldn't be completely blanked off. The get around was drilling a small hole in the blanking plate - 2-3mm diameter - which allowed enough gas to get through to ensure the ECU didn't throw up any faults.

I had Engine Malfunction come up on the display and took the car to Ford but they said its likely to be a faulty sensor and reset it. It happened again and this time they reset it and showed me how to reset it in future. My 2008 Mondeo has now just died. The garage have found that there was 9 Ltrs of oil in the engine and it is now beyond economical repair. After having a sample analyzed it turns out that there was diesel in the oil and a lot of it.

My question is how has the diesel got into the oil? Read more

craig-pd130

The diesel gets into the oil when the diesel particle filter (DPF) is regenerating, i.e. burning off the soot that it traps in the exhaust. The ECU causes extra diesel to be injected during this phase to start the burn-off happening in the DPF canister. If the DPF isn't regenerating properly, then the ECU will keep trying and injecting diesel, and this surplus diesel eventually finds its way into the lubricating oil past the piston rings.

The Mondeo does have an engine oil quality sensor which SHOULD indicate when the oil has been diluted. I guess the message in the dash was trying to tell you this. ...
