Hello,

1st service on my A5 since purchasing it and looking for a good local indy and came accross servicing stop. Any one used these before... they seem pretty reasonable and the collection and delivery particularly appeals, although handing my keys over to someone who turns up after me filling on online forms has me slightly apprehensive.... Just bought a 1 year old Mk3 focus that I've found has a leak from the top of the windscreen 4 inches to the left of the rear view mirror. Returned it to the main Ford agent where I bought the car from who can't find the leak. It's going in next week for 2 days for a "full water test" although I've got a feeling that they either won't or won't admit to finding anything. Any Focus Mk 3 owners suffered similar and if so was it resolved? Read more

Returned car to the dealer who had the windscreen "re sealed" and when I went to pick it up apologised for not washing it,

That's hilarious. "OK, that's the screen resealed. Better not wash it."

I'm unsure whether this clutch is about to let go or heal up by itself. First symptoms 3 weeks ago were very stiff and jerky pedal travel which made it feel like something would soon give or snap. I took to leaving it in neutral when parked as it was such a job to disengage the clutch. The odd thing is that this condition was much worse with the engine off - as soon as it was started everything was much smoother. The other morning I got in it and the pedal was back to normal again but there is now a fairly solid vibration or tremor through the pedal when clutch is depressed which stops right at the bottom of travel. Another thing is that there is now a diabolical vibration which shakes the whole car when I pull away in 1st but is ok once on the move. I don't have many spare £400 quids at the mo so am trying to soft peddle the old girl on the off chance that I can find someone who has had a similar experience and can suggest the simplist and cheapest possiblities first. The clutch does not apparently slip, and last weekend I even reluctantly towed a bogged in VW Transporter out of a ditch without problem and then drove the 300 miles home, so there seems to be some 'meat' left on the clutch still. All fluid levels ok

Any suggestions welcome and thanks in advance. Read more

Hello

My car is a VW Passat 4motion 2004 with an AVF engine (3B6)

I recently changed the fuel filter on the vehicle but did not prime the fuel filter (believing that the pump will automatically fill the unit similar to petrol engine- learned my lesson.)

The car started and I drove it 30 meters down the road where the engine stopped presumably as the filter was empty.

I tried starting the engine a number of times but it would not start until eventually the battery went flat.

The battery was removed, recharged and re-installed in the car.

The fuel pump located in the tank does not work when turning the ignition key. The voltmeter at the pump connections shows 12V for a brief moment - not even a second.

The fuel pump located in the tank appears to work fine when connected to external power source. The hoses from the fuel filter engine intake was removed and bled from trapped air. The return line from the engine (i.e. the hose connecting back to the T was also removed and fluid very slowly came out.

Tried starting the engine with the external power source connected to the pump located in the tank but no luck.

The engine management light is also on.

Cleaned the EGR valve but that again did not make any improvements

Connected a WiFi ELM 327 unit to the OBD connector. There were no errors stored on the ECU. It did however mention DTI 1 misfire when i tried cranking the engine.

Is this still a fuel problem?
Is it worth removing the pump from the tank and cleaning the filter screen if it works?
How do tandem pumps fail?
Could this be a wiring issue to the injectors?
Preheaters do not appear to have voltage. Are they timed?

Does anybody have any ideas what maybe preventing the engine to start? Read more

If it was running ok before the filter change, then it would tend to suggest you have a fuel supply problem. If you disconnect the output pipe at the filter then cycle the ignition on/off a few times, there should be a good flow of fuel to the tandem pump.perhaps The new filter is faulty/incorrect? is the o ring seal correctly positioned.

This afternoon I diconnected the output pipe at the filter. The lift pump was running fine when the key was activated. It provided good flow.

I then removed the return lline from the engine to the T. This line also was left to bleed and fill a small bottle by running the pump on an external power source. A few air bubbles came up due to the disconnection of the filter output pipe. Cranked the engine and still did not start....

I think it will be a very long time before driverless cars become anything more than experimental test-beds.

But what will appear much sooner what might be called 'aided driver' cars. For instance, using GPS, cars could be fitted with variable speed limiters that keep the car within the limit for any particular stretch of road. Also collision avoidance and anti-tailgating devices could be fitted. And if the worst should happen, data recorders linked to dashcams would be able to determine exactly what happened. ...

Hi,

The central locking on my V reg 206 isn't working correctly. The front passenger door doesn't work and the offside rear door doesn't either. In fact the front passenger door stops the car from locking and I have to almost force the internal button down to lock the car. When I do open/close the door there is a loud rattling/vibrating sound. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be and/or a solution?

All hep and advice is welcome.

Cheers,

Lance. Read more

Very common fault on these is for the door latch/s to fail. However, the newer types are modified and will need the wiring connector modification.

I would assume the tester is referring to the surface which a lump of rubber hits if the damper fails, or if the car is excessively loaded. Take a rear wheel off and examine the trailing arm which holds the brake drum - there should be an obvious bump rubber on the bodywork directly above a flat part of the arm. On the 205 this is part of the arm casting and pretty solid - maybe the 206 arm is a pressing?
