I was wondering what forum members thought about the results of this year's awards?
From my perspective (trying to be impartial, despite my owning a mk1 Mazda3), I fail to understand why the 5*-rated new Mazda3 did not even merit a 'commendation' (i.e. on the shortlist) for the 'Small Family Car', yet the very average Honda Civic (4*) and especially the Toyota Auris (3*) apparently do? In my view, the Audi A3 Sportback and SEAT Leon deserve to be there (I'm a fan of the Leon), but why not the Mazda3?... Read more

Hi we have started to get a problem with our parking brake, when we wish to park (ELECTRICAL) the brake wil either come on or it wont. When it does not come on we have to leave it in gear. when it cannot be left in gear ,we have to dissconect the battery then reconnect it ,this will usually enable the parking brake to work again ,but only for a short while. it is becomeing a pain having to keep dissconnecting the battery.
Hope you can help... Read more

We have been having this problem for some time on the Citroen XM forum (.co.uk) and have not found an effective way of stopping them. They are easy enough to delete though so that's what we do in the hope they will get fed up.
A motor mechanic was removing a cylinder head from the motor of a BMW M3 when he spotted a well-known cardiologist in his shop. The cardiologist was there waiting for the service manager to come and take a look at his car when the mechanic shouted across the garage, "Hey Doc, want to take a look at this?" The cardiologist, a bit surprised walked over to where the mechanic was working on the BMW. The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked, "So Doc, look at this engine. I opened its heart, took the valves out, repaired or replaced anything damaged, and then put everything back in, and when I finished, it worked just like new. So how is that I make £40,000 a year and you make £1.7M when you and I are doing basically the same work?" The cardiologist paused, leaned over and whispered, "Try doing it with the engine running." According to the handbook the front head restraints are adjustable in a horizontal and vertical plane. The vertical adjustment is no issue simply facilitated by a button. The handbook illustrate the horizontal adjustment has simply a pull push arrangement that also requires full forward motion to enable the headrest to be moved backwards. i have tried everything and cannot get the headrests to move horizontally. Is there a knack? Is the manual wrong? Any and all advice very much appreciated. Read more

Garage reckons discs should be OK for another 10k miles or so. In the event, it wasn't an MOT advisory. I must have got my signals crossed on the phone.
Still a hefty bill, though.

"Poularist rabble...." What a lovely word. From the French 'poulet' I presume.
