The filter in the HP pump pressure regulator can give trouble on these, it gets clogged and is almost impossible to clean. The regulator is held on to the pump with two bolts and is quite easy to remove. Some of these regulators don't have filters so if you grind the end of the filter off it will work OK, I have removed the filter on mine and its fine now.
I have decided to keep my S-Max TDCi Auto for at least another 18 months. It is about to have a service and MoT at 50,000 miles. It has been regularly serviced (every 12 months and 10,000 miles) and has been reliable. I have no complaints about the way the car has performed. There has been the occasional spurious warning message on the dashboard, but these clear very quickly once the car has warmed up and in mechanical terms, so far no issues.
I have managed to dent the rear bumper, but as it is plastic, it is of little consequence. If I keep the car, I will get a few bodywork scratches and scrapes buffed out and will get the wheels refurbished. ... Read more
Just rang two auto transmissions specialists within a five minute drive of each other near Bolton. One said "why bother?",
A strange reaction from a specialist, unless he's thinking that the car is a throwaway item once something major goes wrong. Even so, for the amount it would cost to perform a fluid change compared to a replacement gearbox or finding another car, it's worth doing.
come on here, seeking advice about what car to buy, and then with a minmal budget, say that want to buy a BMW, Audi or Mercedes (with respect to Estate Driver).

The old Pug 305s seem to be everywhere - I know one quite happy on over 150,000 miles.
the brakes are not even and when coming to a stop the abs seems to cut in ns front is more powerful than the os front and tries to lock up in the wet, the ns rear is constantly binding very slightly, os rear is fine, either can the handbrake be adjusted for each rear wheel or can the shoes be altered/adjusted easily? Sounds like the brakes are overdue thorough proper servicing by a competent mechanic, possibly a combination of seizing front calipers, possible handbrake cable issues and/or a right mess to be found inside the rear drums.

The regas people MUST check for leaks in the system before they're allowed to put gas in again, if not they're not following correct procedure.
Looking for some advice and suggestions
I'm after a estate car with a maximum budget of £2000
I am currently looking at:
Bmw 320d tourers
Vw Passat 1.9tdi
Audi 2.5tdi
Audi 1.9tdi
Does anyone have any suggestions or alternatives to the above?
What would you buy with that budget??
I quite like the BMW but when I read about each of these cars they all seem to have problems with there engines..
My main thing wants:
I would like about 50mpg
Reliable car
Not overly expensive to repair
Minor design faults
A well made car that won't rust really quickly.
"Currently I have a 2007 audi a6 avant estate but am looking to sell it to buy two cheaper cars and put some towards house refurbs)
Thanks for the input in advance.

If you need two cars I really think you should stick with the Audi and get a cheap economical second car - perhapsa a Toyota Yaris 1.3. Otherwise for your budget you'd be buying two risks instead of one.
I agree. To sell the A6 now after spending £2k on it would be madness.

If he is saying is that if it's not broken then he not fixing it, that is ok. He does have to return a working car after the fix within the terms of the warranty.
If the head is warped and he is not going to fix it, then after two weeks it's seams reasonable to say it was broken when purchased and he needs to prove otherwise....
I removed the inlet manifold and filter unit, and ran it to see where the noise was coming from, #1 injector seal was blowing, normal it seems on ythese crap cars.
Removed turbo etc and replaced seals on #1 &2, couldn't get #3 &4 out so left well enough alone.. reassembled, refited battery and will not start. Faitfull e30 alongside keeping the battery going but crank as I might it will not start!... Read more
I purchased a new B-Max Ford 4 door end September 2013 and within a matter of only a few weeks had a problem with rear window closing and then re-opening.... Read more
Sounds like an anti trap reset is needed, this is the system which causes the window to reopen if it closes and encounters an obstruction.
On Audis and the current Mercedes I own this is done as suggested. You close the window by holding the close button, not using auto mode. Once closed you then release the close switch and activate it again to close, this resets the sensor. You can also reset by simply trying to close the windows whilst they are all closed.
My handbook gives this advice, check yours. Now checked, its on page 54!!
If this is all that is required find a main dealer that knows basic info about the car you own.

oldest new car had to be a Nissan Serena.
Was newly registered to me in september 1st 1996, had stamps all over it from 1994....
