I'm currently looking at used VW Polos (in need of a 2nd car).
There are some quite good 2006/7 cars with the 1.4 petrol engine available. Some come with the auto gearbox. I've had Polos in the past but only ever manual.... Read more

Thanks Wackyracer and veryoldbear. I will report back on living with the Fiesta but also on living with a new car. I have always bought 2nd hand and have always been quite lucky with the cars that I have owned (4 cars in 30 years). That is the reason that I posted the original text as it is all a new expierience for me.
I have had the same CD in playing happily for a week. This afternnoon it started then towards the end of the track the unit switched off completely then restarted, playing from towards the start of the same track and reading 'disc loading'. This it continued to do. I cannot get it to change tracks or change to radio or access the sat-nav. It is well and truly jammed.
When it is light and the gales have stopped I will try disconnecting the unit then after a period to reconnect.... Read more
The car is still in warranty, it is going to Jacksons (the supplying dealer) tomorrow for an initial investigation. I was going to have a go at rebooting it as a long-shot. I have had the car from new. There is no details of the fuses and relays inside the fuse boxes, either embossed or adhering. There is not a schedule in the instruction manuals either. I think perhaps M-B do not want you to touch anything!
Hi all
I tend to park the Panda and the other car, an old Honda Shuttle, by reversing into a car park space and by the time the car is straight, the wheels tend to be at an angle. I wonder, does leaving a car like this all day/night put any strain on driveshafts, rubber boots, grommets, suspension parts, etc. ?? Read more
Reversing in is by far the best and easiest, as you can look for hazards as you pull up to park before you reverse in. If you reverse out of a space, so many new hazards can arrive by the time you have all got in, put on belts, started the car etc..
It is also easier, as cars are front-wheel-steer, so the front end will be swinging side to side and so it is easier if the driver's ability to steer is not restricted by the narrow width of the space....
Very loud and solid sounding clunk from front passenger suspension and on checking, the rear-most rubber wishbone bush seems to have a lot of lateral movement when the wishbone is prised with a suitable bar. The anti roll bar bushes/links have just been replaced both sides.
How big a job is this for a competent DIYer in my drive please? Are any Special Tools required, tips on getting the old bush out & new one in, does the whole wishbone have to be removed or can the bush be replaced in-situ please?... Read more
I have a choice between a 2011 Passat 2.0 TDi SE with 20k miles or a 62 plate Octavia TDi VRs. I actually like both equally so just wonder if anyone had a view on the better car or option. Octavia would cost more but is newer and in warranty longer.
I think servicing costs are broadly similar.
Any opinions on either or the better buy?
Thanks and Merry Christmas! Read more
I'm on my third Octavia and have never found road noise to be excessive compared with other cars. It's possible that the vRS and Elegance have more soundproofing than S and SE models; the type of tyres fitted can make a difference too.

Glad this article isn't biased toward Mazda in any way. Completely impartial is ever...
The New Scientist magazine has an article in issue 2947 about the EU and the UK authorities funding research into devices for use by the police and military to stop speeding vehicle by firing radio pulses at them. They are cognisant of the difficulties that motorist would have if the engine of their car stopped while in a high speed chase. Difficulties like disengagement of power steering and braking.
It seems that the military already have devices that can 'fry' a vehicle's electrics.... Read more
Sounds a bit like the old 'microwave jammer' as seen on 'Knight Rider' of old! :-)
