While there is no doubting the failure in the car driver to give way,and the role the camera played, maybe it's time the DfT ran a series of ads on TV and in the cinema reminding motorists that the particular white line is a 'Give Way' - not a 'I've signalled, I'm going' situation which is now commonplace.

Just how many accidents are caused by idiots sailing on to a major road at a crazy speed and not giving way? Read more

It looks to me as if the car came in along the truck driver’s
blind spot as is very common in these merging situations. Don’t forget that the
view of the camera is not the drivers view. If you look at the drivers hand on
the steering wheel in the bottom right of the screen he / she did not react
until the contact was made, this also shows the camera to be up higher and
forward of the driver’s eye line.

I am not saying it is fact but it is very possible the truck
driver could not see the car. Most car drivers do not understand the blind
spots of a truck. In fact a lot of car drivers don’t understand the blind spots
of their own car....

Driving along the EPS light came on, then the engine cut out and would not restart. After about an hour it restarted. Garage could not find a fault but suggested the crankshaft sensor be replaced. It was. Same fault happened again, but took approx. 4 hours before it would restart. Garage can not find a problem. Any ideas? Read more

You need to inform VOSA and fill in the VTG10 form first. You cannot just make up a VIN plate and alter the weight limit on it, you'll only open a huge can of worms for yourself.

You'll need to get the suspension altered to limit the ability to carry the original plated weight, and have a detailed report from a recognised body to point out what work has been carried out. Then VOSA will want to carry out an inspection and depending on the results, a new VIN plate will be issued to the vehicle from VOSA and the DVLA informed....

My husband and I were going towards gatwick airport in our car, suddenly the car lost power and wouldn't go. After we had stopped on the hard shoulder my husband shut down the power and then started the car and it worked. This happened around 7 times. Could you tell me what could be the reason behind this? My brother is driving a 52 plate 307SW which has just done 200,000 miles. He's the second owner and it came with full dealer service history.

The amazing thing is that there's no sign of wear to the seats. The car looks, feels and drives like a sub 100,000 miler!

I'm looking at buying a second hand Fiesta for my son from a Ford Main Dealer. It's a 2006 with very low mileage (28,000)and it's in pretty good nick. The only downer is the partial service history.

It had it's first service at 1800 miles in 07 but the next one wasn't until 2011 (21,000miles).... Read more

A lot of company cars are service by a third party company such as Kwick Fit they normally do stamp the service book but will provide a print out if asked.I look at the brake discs ,tyres, trim for wear relative to the mileage as a first look.Today I looked at around 20 cars only one had new discs plenty of cars with odd tyres panels that had been resprayed in common they all had full service history in my opinion eyes are better than a load of printed lies .

My engine has seized within a week of having it serviced, it's still full of oil. Is it possible that the garage is to blame and if so how do I go about proving it ? Read more

The headlights are not adjusting up/down when the dial in the cab is turned. The lights were set all wrong, pointing downwards. I've manually moved them up fully but my local garage says they are still too low. Is this a dealer diagnostic issue? Read more

I bought a car from a garage in July and the salesman told my wife and I it had a full service history and they were just waiting for the documents to come from the main dealer they had bought the car from.

After many calls chasing the salesman with tales of it being lost in the post and needing to order up a new booklet and get it restamped I spoke to his manager who apologised and told me that the salesperson no longer worked for the garage and had admitted that he had lied to me and my wife. He told me to officially write to the garage owner about my case, which I did.... Read more

One of my old friends bought an Audi TT from the town of the concrete cows dealership, and finding out afterwards that all was not as it seemed, contacted the dealer, who DId the service, replaced pads, and replaced at their expense the headlamp washers, cooling fans, all this in a 13 month period.

But... it was a main dealer who was honourable, and my mate was lucky that he had e-mailed his questions about the car and done all his negotiating before buying.
