It seems an odd 'launch'. Only a few details on the Porsche website, only a cursory review here, and no proper internal measurements available anywhere as far as I can see.
Are we suppose to order it anyway?... Read more
But what is it? The one photo I have seen (an advert showing rear three quarters only) makes it look the size of an Audi Q5.
It's an Audi Q5 platform by Porsche - usual VAG platform sharing.
I have just put winter tyres on my car and am not sure what pressures to put in so wonder if anyone can settle an argument? On summer tyres I put in 32 PSI front and 38PSI rear which is what's in the handbook.
However I have read conflicting reports about whether I should inflate the winter tyres to the same pressures or go around 2 PSI higher front and rear. Calls to ATS, Kwik Fit and National Tyre and Autocare have given me 3 different 'facts' varying from normal pressures to higher pressures to, in fact, lower pressures. I'm none the wiser.... Agree with Steve lee, Michelins were well known for needing no or very little balancing, i found that to be the case in my young days in the tyre lark, the older wiser fitters used to say they were the only truly round tyre.
No doubt things have changed as time has gone by, however.....
Two days ago I put 4 litres of petrol into the empty tank of my Sharan.Thinking this was a very small amount, I filled up with diesel to the brim (another 60 litres) and drove off. I have driven about 50 miles (7 trips).... Read more
Thanks FP. Car belongs to Mrs Drystone, so I don't know how often it has been checked.

Hi, I've recently suffered a nasty scratch on the bumper of my candy white 12 plate Passat estate, (motor fell out of a freezer I was taking to the tip) I contacted my local VW garage and they suggested a matching touch up pen which they duly ordered in for me. The scratch is fairly deep, around 2mm and I would say around 5cm in length. I have touched it up with the nail varnish like brush. However it's not the greatest finish and I'm wondering now if I'd have been better purchasing the matching spray paint?.. Would this have achieved a better finish?..... The VW dealer also advised no need to apply the included post touch up paint lacquer as it was for a bumper which is a mat rather than shiny finish?
My other dilemma is whether to purchase a compound product now, would this be of any benefit to apply on top of my touch up work on the bumper?... Would it improve the rough finish?... Or make no difference?.. Any advice on my options would be gratefully recieved.
Many thanks. Read more
Not as bad but after 2 weeks my bumper was trashed with scratches made by my dog getting in and out of the boot. After spending 20 minutes correcting the paint with a polisher and cutting compound I bought a matt grey protector off ebay that doesn't scratch up and looks like new with a wipe over. Less than half the price of a one off professional chips away type of repair.
I have a 2008 Daihatsu Sirion 1.0 which I have been more than happy with. The warranty has now run out and I intend to do the servicing myself. As Daihatsu spares are increasingly difficult (and expensive) to obtain can anyone tell me what spares from other current cars will fit the Sirion ? Read more
Thank you all for your helpful suggestions.
I was sat in traffic in early August 2013 when a driver hit me in the back of my car. Caused about £1500 worth of damage. My insurers repaired the car. The other drivers insurer are not talking to my insurer. If you call to speak to them you are on hold for 20/30 minutes and no one picks up. They have not responded to letters from my insurer or my solicitor. Is this usual practice? I do not want a non fault accident logged against me, just because the other insurers are ignoring letters. Is there anything I can do to get them to respond. Read more

With alot of people leaving deisel cars behind because or reliability issues and manufacturers bringing out turbocharged smaller engins in big cars are these engins going to be able to prove reliable in the long term? Especially as the the engin will have to be worked hard to make progress. Read more
As I've always said - if you want reliability - buy Japanese (Korea is hot on their heels now though) I find Japanese cars generally to be insanely boring - but the Japs get the basics right 99% of the time. First they copied the British (but with better quality control) - then after learning all our mistakes - they did it right! :-)
Although it can be said the Japanese have always struggled with setting suspention up properly. - early Nissan Primeras aside - they very rarely get it just right.

From personal experience I know it is unbelievable from a Mk 3 Mondeo, as I said we had one 3 years so shoul;d know. I averaged 48 mpg over the 5 years I had a BMW 118D but the engine in that was way more advanced than the old Mondeo lump. We "only" get 51 mpg overall out of a Kia Ceed 1.6 CRDi which we think is brilliant since the Focus 1.6 TDCi that we had before it only averaged the mid 40's....
