My wife has a Cooper that has had a problem with the ignition. When you push the star button all the dials and lights come on there is then an audible click but the engine doesn't fire uo, Sometimes if I rotate the steering wheel it will fire up. Recently I've had to use jump leads which it the cooper starts first push of the button. As such I don't know whether it;s the battery, or an ignition glitch. Anybody out there with advise? I think I would start (!)by getting the battery tested. If it goes with jump leads, then it would suggest the battery has expired.hth

Hi,

A well known and well documented problem across the Peugeot/ Citroen range. The problem is the sensor wires under the drivers/ passengers seats. The connection plugs are useless and when the seats are moved the contact is sometimes lost. The fix is to cut the wires each side of the plug. Throw each plug as far as you can as they have no further use. Re-join the wires (preferably using a soldering iron - colour to colour (i.e re to red) (colour used as an example). Insulate using either heatshrink or insulating tape. Job fixed!!! Cost...zero. Don't let a garage tell you its something a lot more expensive - it's not. The above will fix it!!!...

I have a Vectra C 1.8 Petrol 2002-2003. The check airbag light is ON and the problem has been diagnosed to be a faulty Airbag ECU.
The Airbag ECU needs to be replaced which is normally an expensive affair. I have managed to bag a second hand unit from ebay for £20 (same part number as suggested by mechanic). The part number is 13142540.
The part number has been confirmed by the mechanic, 13142540 Airbag ECUs were for Vectra C's 2002-2003.
Now the challenge is remove the existing Airbag ECU in my car and replace it with the one from ebay.
Is it fairly easy to do this? Or will I end up messing something up?
I managed to find a group of local Airbag ECU engineers, who will probably to this for £60. But, I can try it myself if its just a matter of removing the existing unit and replacing it. Trouble is that I don't know where the airbag ECU is fitted and how to get access to it.

If you are asking where the airbag ecu is,you should not be getting invoved with this job.Procedures need to be adopted before any work is carried out on the srs system.I doubt whether a second hand unit will work correctly as it is may be coded to the car.In some cases if the info in the srs control box does not tally to the other electronics on the car,he engine will not start.hth

The car is fitted with TPMS - is there any problem with swapping the front and rear wheels? Not sure how TPMS works so want to check if this will affect the sensors or not? Read more

VW use a seperate sensor for each wheel so I am not so sure the above info is correct I would check on a VW forum or ask at a main agents. The ones I have used on Mercedes and Renault are specific to each wheel and have to be put on the computer to change there position.

Per local paper this week, Huddersfield is one trial area and results are regarded as good in terms of case throughput and waiting time for court date. Presumably some cost savings too.

Many have updater the registrations but not the oil requirements!

Millers 'which oil' advisor has been updated properly as it lists a different premium oil for my car than it did prior to the update.

I am trying to get Clutch Master Cylinder out of 406 diesel estate. I have never seen anything so difficult in 40 yrs. I have disconnected the tubes, made the tool and unscrewed 45deg (not 90 like Haynes say). It is looser but still not coming seems jammed at the South West/bottom left viewed from front. Do you remove servo, brake m/cyl and actuating rod? The plastic rod extension inside the footwell broke. I wonder if I get this fixed there may be a fault inside the bellhousing, which caused the mechanism to brake when I tried to push down against BIG resistance Read more

Serious point - it's more economical to scrap and buy a replacement car (Vreg) than have clutch replaced commercially. No wonder our climate is up the spout. Greenpeace should award us a medal.

Well, yes, but you aren't obliged to take that route. If the car is otherwise OK the repair may be the worth doing. It's only money, and we can easily print more of that without damaging the environment ....
