Bought an immaculate 50k mile Fiesta 1.25 Flight (2001) as a Christmas present for my daughter to learn to drive in. I have known the car from new and i drove it home at the end of November and left in the garage. This morning with L plates on and trepidation in heart off we went on a driving lesson. However the car started running only three cylinders and lesson was abandoned after 100 yards. I checked leads/plugs etc but the car is only running on three cylinders with No2 being main suspect. Coil pack? Thanks Read more
Just changed the front tyres on my 2.2 brera coupe and note the dealer has replaced the original Pirelli Zero Nero 235/40/ZR19 Load rated 96Y with Pirelli Zero 235/40/ZR19 Load Rated 92Y. These are a more expensive tyre but the load rating is less than recomended in the manufacturers handbook - is this a problem? Hope you can help?

Thank you all for your replies - area which seems to be a bit of a mindfield. For information I have contacted my insurance co and Police and both have confirmed that tyres are acceptable (well within car weight limits) and are legal and will not result in any potential prosecution. Also note that I have not been charged the premium price for these tyres over the much cheaper P Zero Nero tyres.
Which is basically what I said in my posts (second and fourth ones in the thread). Its makes a pleasant change to hear the follow up to the dilemma unlike so many posts on here....
HI has anyone got any idea who is liable. I was reversing out of a side street and my back passenger informed me a car was coming down the road as they saw the headlights, I stopped reversing an inch past the parked car so my break light s were on. The car coming down the street hit my bumper and scraped all the side of their car. I just have a scraped bumper and fog lense out. I was stationary and it was dark so headlights and breaklights could be seen. Any help would be gratefully received. Read more
I think GB's post is good - there could well be details we don't know about the scenario.
What the whole episode underlines is the problematic nature of reversing. The driver cannot, even with mirrors, properly see what he's doing. If he's encroaching on a busy road there are clearly serious risks, no matter what the actual legal rights and wrongs are. Even in car parks, where speeds are generally slow, it's easy to get it wrong....
Hi, my daughter is thinking of buying a C3 sensordrive. I don't know too much about these and wondered if anyone could advise if these are good buys. This one has only done 24000 miles with full service history and looks immaculate. The milage is true as i know the owner. What would be a fair price to pay for one of these. Also what should she be prepared for in the future with things wearing out.Thanks. Sparky100. Read more
It's actually a manual gearbox complete with clutch etc, but by a system of sensors and computer controlled actuators it operates the clutch, releases and re-applies throttle, and changes gear automatically as and when required, you can drive it manually too by use of the paddles....
i thought i would post my disgust in Mazda Engines as i cant believe how unlucky i have been. I purchased a Mazda 6 estate in 2011 on a 56 plate and nearly a year later due to a DPF problem had to get rid having spent over 1K trying to get it sorted. Thinking i was unlucky with that one decided to buy another one from a main dealer in September 2012 with just short of 80,000 how wrong i was - a year later with just short of 90,000 on well december 2013 whilst driving the DPF light started flashing and the engine management light came on so quickly booked into main dealer garage £ 500 later for an oil leak Rocker cover gasket, DPF regenerated, Oil and filter change etc etc (even though it had one in August) then a day later the engine started whining so booked in again. They dropped the sump and hey ho the crank is damaged how much £ 3,000 to replace and rebuild the bottom end for a car that is only worth 2k
The Mazda 6 Estate is a great car to drive, comfy etc but seems that the engines are really no good.... Read more
A few years ago I had an 04 reg MX5 for a short while. Whilst it was a great fun car, the underside was poorly protected and in quite a state. I was told by a specialist that engine and electrics are bombproof but rust underneath is a common problem.
My first car is a 3 years old SEAT and it has packed-up 5 days outside the Warrantee.
The engine has been wrecked by the leakage of diesel into the engine oil and with weakened lubrication the oil pump has failed, etc.... Read more
VAG engines are not well known for diluting the engine oil with diesel. The only cases I have read about have had nothing to do with the DPF regen but have been leaking/faulty injectors and in all cases the owners have admitted that fuel consumption had been much higher than normal in recent months.
As is normal the owners had all done nothing (including no weekly checks) until it was too late....
Hi basically my car was involved in a accident which was not my fault last thursday..its a 2 month old toyota yaris hybrid t-spirit from what i can see it will need a new front bumper, headlight, wing also the fog light is smashed and alloy damaged with a chuck missing out of the tyre...the car is on finance with toyoyta also..they rang me today to say they will be repairing the car and i told them i do not want to car back because its a brand new car and im paying monthly for a new car not a damaged one and it will never be the same..they just said there is nothing you can do?. The OP has never come back to us - so hopefully he's got the message. He's probably remembering the days when metallic paint - especially silver - was very difficult to match.
Fortunately things have moved on from then, and so must he.
I bought my Audi about six months ago, Its been running like a dream. I now have encountered a problem. Everything runs perfect, smooth gear change etc. Until it seems that the engine starts to warm up. The "clutch" is slipping! I can put into any gear and the car starts to budge at about 4-5000 revs. Ive had the Audi towed in and to my suprise the following morning everything runs like a dream. Only then to have the same problem when the motor warms up. Slipping with no power. Please could anyone come up with any sugestions to what could be wrong? I have been told that it is possible that the Transmission oil is low. I dont want to service and sit with the same problem. Please HELP!!! Read more
You can buy here in Germany recon Mercedes auto boxes for very reasonable money and there are plenty of firms that will repair existing Mercedes boxes but not anything that was used in VAG.
At the end of January I will be going abroad for 12 months and am leaving the car in a storage container.
It was suggested that I disconnect the battery when storing it, I just looked in the Haynes manual to see which terminal I should disconnect first and read that if I disconnect the battery the ECU will lose the information stored in it's memory (KAM), this includes idling and operating values and any fault codes detected, it goes on............. I've been mucking around with cars for over 30 years, I have had plenty of batteries I've left standing in my workshop for a year plus that are still perfectly servicable after that period. As long as they are fully charged and cleaned before you store them and they are not allowed to get wet - they will be fine unless they are already on the way out. yes they will lose a chunk of their charge but as long as they are not allowed to get flat enough to freeze in the winter they will be fine.
Hi,
I`ve gone and put down a deposit on an AUDI A1 2011 (Audi APPROVED) at an AUDi dealership. It`s MOT`d until march and has 1 years Audi warranty. I probably haven`t haggled the BEST deal but at £11,400 it seems ok. I only used my debit card to put down the £400, I didn`t sign anything.... Read more
Theres another thread running at the moment with a guy trying to choose between an Octavia or a passat. People seem to think that the Octavia suffers from a lot of road noise, some even describing it as unbearable. I couldn't comment on the Octavia as I ve never owned one, however I can confirm that all of the 3 audis I have had have been very well insulated and extremely comfortable at speed and across varying road surfaces. The q3 we presently have has the best ride so far out of all of them but then it does sit on the deepest profile tyres. When we bought our first audi it was a choice between a golf and an a3. As someone has already stated we had the audi as the price difference between the two was minimal.
So what you're saying is you've found an Audi that doesn't ride as poorly as the others - well done. Most cars are comfortable at speed, It's when you slow down things get rough....
Thanks for response and will try the 2/3 leads late. I took the car out for a 5 mile run and yes three cylinders and not two. Engine light flashes whatever that means and local auto factors closed so couldn't try 4 new spark plugs.
